The book was ok for me. This was the first from this author and did enjoy. At times the book dragged but I was still pulled into the storyline to find out in the end what happens. The ending a little surprised me but it was interesting of where it went. This book is full of emotions and an easy listen.

This book had me hopping all the way through!

I literally didn't see the twisty mctwisters that rolled through this book!

So Laura's sister was murdered by her husband 10 years ago. She was a photo journalist until that point and then starts taking wedding pics because of what happened to her sister and nephews. her niece is the only one who survives and goes to live with her grandmother. They assume the father killed himself but 10 years later, laura snaps a photo.... The man in the photo is none other than her brother in law.

Holy mcnuggets I was hooked right in and I couldn't stop listening.

The narration was on point and I was drawn right in. This book will keep you on your toes right until the very end and just when you think you know.... you don't know!

The writing is exactly what I need from a thriller author. It was well paced and expertly executed. I loved the characters and it was a solid thriller book.

This was a great story about a horrific family tragedy at the hands of the husband or was it? He disappeared right after and now it’s many years later and his Sister in law sees him in a photo she took. But is that really him?

I couldn’t stop reading this it was really good though the cover for me is misleading so do not judge this book by that or you will truly miss out.

The Photo by A. J. McDine ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The hook drew me in, and the twists and turns kept me reading. When the man thought to have murdered photographer, Lara's sister and nephews shows up in the background of one of her photos, she must find out why he's back and protect her remaining family from him while getting answers for the case that's haunted her for years. Great quick read.

"The Photo" by A.J. McDine is a great psychological thriller! If this genre is one you like, you'll want to check out this one! It's an unputdownable fast read or listen.

Laura is a wedding photographer and former news photographer. Ten years ago, her sister, Isabel, and twin toddler boys were murdered. Everyone thought it was her husband, Jason, who did it, and he had disappeared. One day, while taking landscape photos, Laura gets a picture of a man she later recognizes as Jason. She is terrified!

Isabel had an older child, Lily, who survived the attack. Lily is now 15 years old and living with her grandmother. Is Lily in danger again?

This book has an outstanding plot. It moves right along with plot and action. It is set in England in modern times.

The audiobook is expertly narrated by Tamsin Kennard. I love her, but I would like to listen to other thrillers with different narrators who are just as good. She's the main narrator doing all the thrillers from England lately.

It has been ten years since he fled, ten years since Laura’s sister and two young boys were brutally murdered…by their father, Jason Carrillo. There was only one survivor, Jason’s daughter, five-year-old Lily. Jason has not been seen since that fateful night….until the photo was taken.
Laura used to be a photographer for a newspaper until that gruesome night, now she is filling her resume with weddings. But one day as she is taking photos she somehow captures a stranger in one of her shots, but it is really no stranger. It is her brother-in-law Jason. How can this be? Why has he come back now, is he back to finish what he didn’t ten years ago and kill his daughter? Laura must find him before he finds Lily. However, Lily has put her own life in danger as she has started a social podcast looking for answers and possibly her father.

A.J. McDine has done it again! Such a nail biting, gripping thriller to the very end. McDine has you convinced as a reader that you know all the facts, and the story's plot line but throws a curve ball twist in the end that has you gasping “wait, what, who” , well at least I did. I listened to this book which was narrated by the wonderful Tamsin Kennard. As always she has such an impeccable ability to make the listener feel as if they are immersed within the pages of the book.

*Thank you to A.J. McDine, Tamsin Kennard, Bookouture Audio, and Netgalley for the ARC copy. I am freely leaving my honest review.

I just didn’t enjoy this domestic thriller as much as I usually do. I can’t tell if it was the lack of character development or the storyline that didn’t mesh with me, but it could’ve been a little of both. There were also a couple of repetitive parts where I think almost the same lines were being repeated in two different sections of the book. It might be an editing error or some serious Deja vu. I also wasn’t digging the “big reveal” near the end. It just really fell short for me, unfortunately.

The narrator was a delight to listen to though and I’d be happy to hear her again.

Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Bookouture Audio for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ten years after her sister was brutally killed, Lara has gotten her life back together and things are going well for her as a wedding photographer....until her sister's murderer shows up in the background of one of her photos.

I absolutely loved this one! It hits the ground running, giving you a brief glimpse into Lara's perfectly normal life before jumping right into the crux of the story and filled in the backstory in a way that built the suspense. Parts of the story were wild but never crossed into unbelievable, the story was complex but not convoluted. the characters were real and flawed but not annoying..... everything was just really well constructed. The ending was a good surprise but once you get the plot twist you realize there were little hints along the way which is so hard to do. I absolutely could not put it down, can't wait for more from this author!

If you’d love a good, addictive psychological thriller, read The Photo!
I had several suspects in my mind. AJ McDine created a suspicious world & then took my mind for a spin in the end!

Tamsin Kennard once again narrated perfectly! I’m never disappointed with hearing her read me a book!

Ten years ago, Isabelle and her young twin sons were brutally murdered. Her 5 year old daughter, Lily, was badly injured, but she survived. Isabelle's husband, Jason, is the prime suspect, but he disappeared the day of the murder and hasn't been seen twice. Isabelle's sister, Lara, is a photographer. As she's reviewing her recent photos, she swears it's Jason in the background of one of her pictures. Is it really him? Has Jason resurfaced? If so, why? WOW! What develops in this book is a roller coaster, and I was fully invested in the ride!

A J McDine has done it again! I loved her most recent book, The Baby, and The Photo is even better! This book is fast paced and had me gripped from the very first words. The short chapters made this an easy read, and I found myself engrossed in this story.

McDine's writing style is vividly descriptive, which really helps to bring her characters to life. I flew through this book because I just had to know what was going to happen. The plot developed at a rapid pace that kept me entertained until the very end. There were twists and turns that I didn't predict. Every time I thought I knew what would happen next, McDine proved me wrong. The ending was brilliant! McDine is one of my new fave authors. I can't wait to read her full catalog.

Tamsin Kennard did a great job as usual with her narration. She always brings a story to life for me.

This fast paced book captured my attention right from the start. I loved the way in which Lara’s work as a photographer was woven into the story of her family tragedy—the murder of her sister and nephews and disappearance of her brother-in-law ten years earlier. The story is set in motion when Lara snaps a photo that seems to include her missing brother-in-law, and around the same time her niece, who survived the murder of her mother and brothers, starts to remember some details about it. As they piece together bits of information the plot thickens. There is a lot of family drama and a few red herrings thrown in, and some significant twists. This is a definitely a thriller to check out! Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook.

The Photo AUDIO by AJ McDine is a little different kind of mystery. For one, the victims have been dead for ten years. For another, the alleged perp has been dead/gone for the same length of time. As the story unfolds we see that a variety of misdeeds have been assigned to this one man. A man that has been dead for ten yers. Or so everyone thought until a photographer caught him in the background of a landscape she had shot. She should know him. He murdered her sister. Things happened fast. There were plenty of clues, but many were misleading. It was extremely well-plotted with important information revealed piecemeal. The characters were good, especially 15-year-old Lily, who was a rebellious and ignorant of the world as any young teen and struggled more than any of them realized over the deaths of her family and missing her father.

Thrillers can be difficult. The writer has to keep the stress level of the reader at fever pitch in order to have an effect. McDine seemed to accomplish that effortlessly by inserting people into the story that were not what they seemed and surprising the reader when they were unveiled. At least, it surprised me. Twists and turns. A lot of worry for everyone. It kept the adrenaline high. It was a terrific book. I cannot give it higher praise. Thanks, AJ McDine!

The book was read by Tamsin Kennard, who kept it all on an even keel. She kept the terror and the worry up at all times, while also being the voice of reason. She was t he perfect reader for this intense book.

I was invited to listen to The Photo by Bookoutre Audio. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #BookoutreAudio #AJMcDine #TamsinKennard #ThePhoto

The Photo is a murder mystery that will have you hooked from page 1! Sometimes a photo can stop you dead in your tracks. Is that who she thinks it is? Is he really back? Is he back to finish what he started? Is he coming for the rest of them? Who can be trusted and will 15 year old Lilly’s choices lead to devastation or salvation? This book has the perfect blend of character development and background story, while simultaneously progressing the story forward to its epic conclusion!!! You won’t want to miss this one!

4 Stars!

The Photo was a fast-paced enthralling listen with so many unexpected twists. The narrator, Tamsin Kennard, was great.

Laura's sister and her two young twin sons were murdered ten years ago, with her sister's five-year-old daughter, Lily, surviving the night. Her sister's husband disappeared without a trace and was the suspected murderer.

Laura, a photographer, takes a photo of a landscape and to her shock, her sister's husband is in the corner of it. This kicks off the investigation and hunt for her sister's murderer again and renews the public's interest in it. With so many twists and surprises, I couldn't get enough of this book. It was an easy listen with nothing too shocking or scary.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio for the advanced copy via Net Galley for my honest review.
