I read this as a way to relive the Netflix show which I LOVED. The book didn't make me as emotional, but was well narrated and a good read.

Thank you to Netgalley and W F How's for the Audiobook of One Day to listen to for an honest review.

One day follows the lies of Dex and Emma from University to adulthood and how their relationship changes and grows over their years of friendship.

The story shows the struggle of growing up and lifes choices.

I had heard much about this book due to the Netflix show and was intrigued. I found it fascinating showing the impact the choices that the characters make has on their lives and found it very true to real life.

Dex and Emma have a will they won't they relationship throughout the book and the story gives interesting insight into life and the chances we do or do not take.

I found the story heartbreaking and beautiful. It is very well written and this Audiobook was beautifully narrated and kept me engaged through the book so much so I finished it in One Day ironically.

Well worth a listen for readers who enjoy Audiobook and a wonderful captivating story based on the normal lives of two people who are intertwined.

I really enjoyed this book. Full of David Nicholls’ warmth and humour. The narrator was great and really easy to listen to. It was always easy to know who was talking even when the narrative might’ve been less clear otherwise. Would definitely recommend and will be seeking out more of her narration.

Whilst I did like Annabels narration of this audiobook, the audiobook itself was a little bit of a letdown for me,

I unfortunately didn’t enjoy the story as much as I had expected to, which was slightly disappointing. I found both of the characters, especially Dexter, to be very unlikeable and found the story lacking excitement.

I did however like the wittiness to the story and enjoyed the “one day a year” prospective.

I would be more than happy to re-read and review if a download becomes available. I loved the premises of this story, getting a snapshot on how their lives have developed on one, seemingly insignificant, day of the year for about 20 years.

I was hooked reading from start to finish, and I honestly say this book made me laugh and cry

Such an effortless read. This story invites you in then pulls you along like an enthusiastic infant. David Nichols has a way of taking normality and turning it into something enchanting.
Dexter and Emma’s story is relatable, frustrating and heartbreaking.
I can see why so many people have fallen in love with this story.
Five stars from me, with thanks to NetGalley and WF Howes Ltd for the chance to listen to an ARC.

I don’t like romance novels. I don’t like “chick lit”. But I love this book. There’s an exception to every rule and for me, “One Day” is it. I first read this book when it was released. I watched the film with a good friend and watched the new series with my husband. The book has travelled with me over time. the characters are strong and believable (even when they are weak and make bad decisions) and the format of the story makes for an exciting, unique read. This narration feels crisp and fresh and brings the book right into the 202@s. Perfect.

I originally read this book close to its publication year, well over ten years ago now at least. But I didn't love it on my first reading. I think I was maybe too young for it at the time, being in my early 20s and not quite understanding the complexities of real love. And then the original film adaptation only lessened my opinion of the story.

But as soon as I saw that there was a new adaptation coming to Netflix and with a cast that I was very excited for, I knew I had to give the book a re-read first. So I binge-listened to this one day, and then binge-watched the series the day after, and now all I can think about is Em and Dex!

I much preferred the story on my re-read as I instantly felt connected to the characters. I could easily relate to Emma, feel empathy for Dex, I pleaded for them to show their true feelings, while I also felt irritated by them both at times too. But I still rooted for them throughout. I adored how their friendship grew, drifted apart, and ultimately came back together again, growing up alongside each other, living separate lives, but always feeling the tug to come back to each other.

The audiobook of this book is also really good and I found Annabel Scholey's narration very engaging. I would have loved a male voice actor to play Dex's character, though, so I think they missed a trick there!

The Netflix adaptation is also brilliant. Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod (especially) were both brilliantly cast and their performances were perfect. Every scene played out exactly as it did in my head, and their portrayals of these characters have only made me love the book even more!

The only reason I can't give the book a full five stars is because I felt no emotion when the "big twist" hits. Maybe it's because I knew what was coming, but I thought that it would have hit harder on my second read as I grew to love these characters even more. Sadly, it still felt underwhelming for me, whereas I needed it to end a more powerful note. The Netflix adaptation, however, had me absolutely bawling my eyes out, so the story did eventually get a tear from me! Definitely a book I want to read again in the distant future to see how my opinion evolves even more!

I couldn’t get through this 😭 I disliked the characters so much, I wasn’t convinced by the romance- their relationship was so toxic and painfully imbalanced. And the ending??? Yeah, this wasn’t for me unfortunately, but people who liked normal people will eat this up!!

3.5 stars
I read this book when it first released and remembered enjoying it so I was excited to listen to the new re-recording. The narration was wonderful. I’d give it the full five stars. As for the book, I forgot how much I disliked Dexter. That made it almost impossible to root for any HEA between them. I did enjoy revisiting the characters and might even watch the Netflix movie. But I’ll never be on team Dexter! 😂
*Thanks to WF Howes and NetGalley for the audiobook copy

I just loved everything about this book. The storyline was just so refreshing. I didn't warm to Dex at first but he definitely grew on me throughout the book. Loved the narrator she really did bring the book to life. A very enjoyable listen

I know this title has been around for some years, but it’s not one which ever held any great appeal. I’m not keen on romance and rather dismissed this as not my thing. I was wrong. The audio version is so perfectly narrated, Dex and Em, the central characters are brought vividly to life. And whilst there is love and romance, this tale is far more cleverly nuanced in exploring relationships, lives and I found I became emotionally involved with both.

I like the unusual approach of character development taking place in snapshot over some twenty years. Each follow their own life course, very different, but remain in touch following their early liaison. Dex is a womanising opportunist, one who takes advantage of his position, but somehow, I came to at least understand him and almost like him. Have to say I was rooting for Em who’s the real star. Really enjoyed this tale, rich in observation and a great sense of time and place. Loved it. Note to self; don’t make early judgement..

A just f*ckin can’t 😭 😭 😭

A thought a couldn’t sob more than the day a watched The Notebook, PS I Love You and Ghost in one afternoon, but a was wrong…

Av had the audio of The One on me Audible since 2021 infact a reckon it was one of the first audios a got when a switched audio apps, nd it just sat there and waited patiently

Anyhow the other night the new One Day series caught me eye in Netflix nd a thought a best get a shift on nd listen to the book, but dilemma - a cudnt resist starting the series So a messily flick back n forth between series nd audio nd altho there’s some differences like the physicalities, some locations, some characters - basically it’s the same story

A was up til 3.30am last night coz a was f*ckin hooked! The story covers the friend/relationship between two people meeting at uni and the fall out of what happens next nd their lives over the next decade or two. It covers what wud be pivotal moments in both their lives and explores friendship and relationships over time, it’s a beaut. Our Dexter nd Emma, a love story, or not?!

The will they, won’t they of it had me chompin at the bit, fast forwarding thru audio to keep pace with the series (bad ano!) but a just needed to know. The 80s vibe (the series has some classic tunes), the in-depth characters nd quirky premise of the story all add up to make a story ya will sink into

The way it hops from year to year made me think I’d be confused coz a like a straightforward timeline (after reading How to Stop a Time War recently a was a bit worried bout that set up), but it was fine

The ending, it came up unexpectedly in me, nd dispute the hype, the series nd all the chatter on Bookstagram I didn’t know and boom! I’m shaken - I don’t wanna say what it is but ya need f*ckin hankies

Defo not me normal vibe/genre but am so glad a had a moment of “why not!?” coz a adored it

Wud a say to do the book first, yeh a wud. The audio is canny but to get the benefit of both defo book first

3 words: uncertainty, love, tissues
