I loved this sweet witchy romance that will make you yearn to visit a small town in New England in autumn. There’s plenty of family drama but you always feel the underlying love. I loved the wonderful, friends to more, slow burn romance. The ending felt like a fairy tale and left such a hopeful feeling for all. I read this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is the perfect fall cozy read! Practical magic rolled into a book! I loved the MMC AND THE FMC SO MUCH!

Loved it! Really enjoyed the Gilmore Girls / Charmed vibes and I found myself chuckling out loud quite a few times!

This book made me wish it was 45 degrees in the middle of October already. The mix of Gilmore Girls and Practical Magic is perfect, complete with a mother who could give Emily Gilmore a run for her money in the bitchy department. A somewhat typical ‘witches in crisis in their small town’ book but with the plot twist of magicians and magic birds and a some sort of unknown villain (seriously I still don’t know who the bad guy is). Regardless, I’m glad I read it would happily read a sequel! 3.75🌟
Thanks Netgalley!

Thank you to NetGalley for the e-arc.

I quite liked the story and I think it could have been a great read, but the writing - especially the dialogue - let it down. A few plot holes, maybe the author is looking to release a sequel?

I was really excited for this title, im a fan of Gilmore girls and charmed and anything autumnal and witchy but from the first page the writing felt very flat for me.

This was such a cute and fun fall read! I loved the small town and the witchy vibes. It is perfect for fall. I thought the romance was also sweet - it was a little slow to get into at first but once I did I really enjoyed it - very cozy. Will recommend and add to our library!

This was a sweet small town witchy book with a new and unique magic system that was really cute. This little town seems really cozy and the romance is sweet. Scarlett goes home after ten year because there’s an issue with the magic in town and reunites with her family who I personally spent most of the book unsure about but also with her old almost kinda ex Nate who is so sweet and supportive of her and on her side no matter what happens. Scarlett is carrying a lot of guilt from the reason she ran away and as her and Nate's relationship progresses she finds herself wanting to stay and leave at the same time. The romance and magic in this book is cute and it's definitely a good fall read if you're looking for something quick and relaxing with low angst and unpredictable magic.

This book was a bit chaotic, which was fun for a bit but it felt really drawn out. The MCs family is TERRIBLE but she's come back to do anything they need? I'm sorry but they are terrible to her and it just doesnt make sense. 😔 I did like the cozy, witchy elements to the book. I wish it stayed more focused on that instead of her terrible family. How can she be happy ever after with them treating her the way they did? I'm sorry but it doesn't make sense to me.

“In a region known for its crisp autumn air and cozy clapboard houses and pumpkin-spice everything, Oak Haven was by far the crispest, the coziest, the spiciest.”

“In that moment, she knew, with a bone-deep certainty, that this was what home felt like.”

What I would give to be transported to Oak Haven! This book was such a fun wholesome read, Emily Grimoire gives you this cosy New England setting with these utterly beautiful descriptions that make you want to dive right into the pages. Then if the setting alone doesn’t completely win you over you get this adorable second chance romance! Scarlett and Nate’s ‘will they or won’t they’ history as teenagers made for lots of complicated feelings now that Scarlett has returned as an adult.

“When Nate grinned at her, Scarlett grinned back, and she suddenly realized that there were no bad feelings here, just complicated ones, and she didn’t want the moment to ever end.”

I loved Scarlett’s transformation through this story. She is a character that holds so much guilt and she spent ten long years avoiding it. Now she is forced to confront what happened in the past and heal, in doing so she embraces her magical heritage. Even with this I found this book to be such a fun and lighthearted read, from Scarlett’s quirky family, the many endless Earls and the most hilarious ‘villains’ I think I’ve ever read… I really enjoyed it

“Thanksgiving represented everything they loved about Oak Haven, where traditions were honored, where magic and wonder were celebrated, and where the bonds of family and friendship were strong.”

Gourds grief!

Scarlet Melrose returns home after ten years away to find her beloved small town of Oak Haven in disarray and lacking the many gourds that traditionally decorate the town.

It was a quick read for me and I would have preferred the characters, their relationships, and the story to have more background and depth, but if you like easy to read cozy stories that happen to feature witches and magic with a side of slow-burn spicy romance, this book may be for you.

A return to the magical village and another good read. Nate has waited for Scarlet whilst she lived in the real world and denied her witchiness, now she is back. Scarlet is back as the village is failing, themagic is draining away. This book is all run through with magic and spells and portals, however it it a book about family, and being forgotten and feeling left out at its heart. Nate and Scarlet are will they won’t they for years and this comes to a head. The book weaves the magic in well, a few oddities aren’t are smooth such as the time to unravel the end and the unpicking of scarlet’s guilt but the rest is great,

Impractical Magic was a wholesome, witchy read. I loved the witch lore and different types of magic.
I would say the romance is a side story, we don’t get a whole lot of context on their relationship as kids/teens so it felt a little rushed. Some of the family relationships were also quite frustrating and you wondered why the main character even bothered to go back after ten years. But I understood it for the New England autumnal gorgeousness! I wish Oak Haven was a real place to visit. The mystery was also quite easy to guess but that didn’t ruin the story for me. An easy, enjoyable book.

I wanted to love this one more. The love story wasn’t as believable as it could’ve been. I would have liked to see more character development and sweet moments that made me believe it and root for them rather than just hearing they were destined and that’s that. It was cozy but it didn’t have that warm and fuzzy feeling I was looking for unfortunately.

An impractical five-star read, I don’t know with this one, I really enjoyed the whole story, but it took me a little while to get stared as I just wasn’t sure on the writing style at first, it felt weirdly negative, but them the more I read the more I got into the story and was able to put that aside. I think it helped that we got to know Scarlett better, as she was a little whiney at first, I found, and I just didn’t like her at first, I loved her soon after, just not for he first handful of chapters. The learning curve this book went in was what made it five-stars for me, the way they took what they learned and improved the town for its less witchy inhabitants. This had its good points, I liked how Violet was shown and the struggles of a teenage girl in modern times dealing with a mixed-up life, but it also had its negatives as well, and they were glossed over. If you like a cozy witchy story then likelihood is you will enjoy this one.

I'm sorry, but I cannot finish this book. DNF at 54%. I cannot stand the FMC. From the beginning was making that face you make where your eyebrows knit together, and you're thinking, "oh no, please don't tell me this whole book is written this badly." It just feels like many of the books that seem to be coming out a lot lately. Publishing companies noticing we like witchy pumpkin spiced flavored mysteries, and so they pump them out, but they aren't written with any weight to the characters and story. Also the icky toxic relationship she has with her mother was a grind to read through.

I really enjoyed this book, it’s the perfect autumn hug as you watch the rain and leaves fall with a hot chocolate and a blanket and I can’t wait to reread this book in that exact scenario. Scarlett and Nate make a really cute couple who I was routing for all through the story!

Summary: When Scarlett returns to Oak Haven to fix its magic, she faces an old flame, her sisters, and a magical mess.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book, all thoughts are my own.
