This is a fantastic resource for those just getting started with NetGalley (as well as those of us who've been here for a while!). I print out a copy to keep at work as a reference for myself and library staff who may be interested in joining NetGalley (and helping me choose books). Make sure you give this a look before you start requesting books!
An incredibly useful tool when creating your book advocate profile. I can see myself coming back to this when it’s time to revamp my bio.
Another NetGalley life saver! I made a late goal this year to increase my NetGalley presence. I’ve developed lovely relationships with many indie authors through IG, but I lack that with trad pubs. NetGalley is the perfect gateway to building the relationships I desire, but it can be very intimidating at first. Receiving the dreaded rejection emails is never fun, and no matter how many times I edit my profile, they still come. But this toolkit has been a major help! I’m excited to put these tips to the test and grow my presence! Thanks again, NetGalley!
I really enjoyed this toolkit. I will use the reviewing format for the rest of my reviewing career! I found tips about my profile that I did not know about and even the formula for reviewing. This was a great refresher and very helpful!
This was an extremely helpful guide for helping me set up and tweak my NetGalley profile. I think both new and existing users would benefit from reading this over and applying the tips to their account. I hope that I'm able to execute the advice given and help boost my approvals through NetGalley!
This is an incredible introduction to NetGalley, and how to make sure your profile is structured properly. I love how everything was broken down and the examples that were provided as well.
I am going to add a lot of these suggestions to my profile and my approach when navigating NetGalley. This is a great resource for not only people just beginning their journey but also if you need a refresh to align your profile with publishers.
This was a well structured overview of using net galley from the reviewer side of things.
My main gripe is related to the file itself - I was surprised by and didn't love that it was only available in pdf because that's the least enjoyable and least adjustable format to read on my e-reader, which I kind of would have expected that to be something netgalley/We Are Bookish would know about and accommodate. 😅
The dimensions of the page imply it's expected to be read in a book-shaped format, yet it's a fully hyperlinked pdf in color, which lends to being read on a computer of some-kind, but then it's the wrong dimensions for a computer screen. Maybe it's just intended to read it on a phone or something? But I personally find that an unenjoyable experience, so it didn't really occur to me as an option until writing this review.
I ended up reading it on my laptop, which was good enough for such a short document, but generally when I am reading I'm trying to get away from the internet access and the brightness of my laptop.
Overall, I found it to be well structured and include all the necessary information to get started. I did a bit of pre-reading about being a netgalley reviewer on their We Are Bookish blog before signing up for my account and I noticed that at least half of the info in this document was already covered in the few articles I read. It is nice to have it all in one document though.
I appreciated that more info was hyperlinked to the appropriate pages on the netgalley site throughout the document. I did follow a few of them and was able to gain a bit deeper understanding of those topics.
The screenshots as appropriate were a nice touch and are always appreciated for this type of user-guide-esque document.
Overall I would recommend this to any new to netgalley reviewer as it does lay out how things work and what's expected of you in a clear and concise manner.
Thank you We Are Bookish Blog for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This is a cute little, easy-to-read guide on how to make NetGalley work for you as a reader, bookseller, librarian, or educator (in broad terms)! It's short, which is great, and very easily digestible.
My one main critique is that when clicking on any of the links in the PDF, they didn't open to new tabs, they overrode the tab the book was on and would open there. It's a pet peeve of mine when things do that, which is why I knocked down a star.
I will be keeping this for reference though! Thanks, NetGalley team <3
NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit is a fantastic resource for both new and experienced reviewers. It offers valuable advice on how to navigate the platform effectively, from writing captivating book reviews that will draw in future readers to understanding what publishers are looking for in a reviewer. I especially appreciated the tips on maintaining a strong profile to increase your chances of being selected for future reviews.
Whether you're just starting out or have been reviewing for a while, this guide is an excellent reference tool. I’ll definitely be keeping some of these pages handy for quick reference when writing my reviews. A highly recommended read for anyone looking to up their book reviewing game!
This is a helpful guide for new Netgalley users and it also gives you the opportunity to provide feedback for a 'book' on Netgalley, so it's a two in one benefit!
This is the revised version of the “Book Advocate Toolkit.”
In the toolkit, it is said that you can read it through their app in editable PDF format. I think it's useful because there are links to pages on We Are Bookish (NetGalley's blog).
I think there are many improvements in comparison to the previous edition.
The Toolkit provides guidelines for using the NetGalley platform (and its sections), setting up your profile, writing reviews, etc.
I found many chapters useful.
In the chapter on setting up one's profile, clicking on the available link, I found useful tips for updating mine.
In this edition, they also increased the number of pages for reviews from three to five.
Another part I found useful is for DNF, that is, when it is not possible to finish reading a book. As soon as I registered, it was not that clear about when a book is archived. I reserved a book of poems; when I decided to download it, it was too late because it had been archived. Thanks to instructions in this part, I managed to properly DNF this book.
In this edition, they have removed all the pages related to how to manage social accounts (for book readers). A specific guide has been published: “NetGalley's Social Media Handbook.”
Didn't find it helpful at all format isn't great and I have no idea how to remove it from my book shelf now?
Really good toolkit for beginners and people looking to focus their reviews in a more constructive way or with better thought to the readers, to the people who look for reviews. Also a a good intro to Net Galley. Can’t think of a thing I would change.
The NetGalley Book Advocate Toolkit is an absolute must for anyone looking to step up their book reviewing game! Whether you're brand new to NetGalley or a seasoned member, this guide is packed with valuable tips on everything from creating a standout profile to maintaining a strong feedback ratio. I loved the practical advice on writing book reviews, especially when it comes to handling more critical ones. The toolkit is clear, easy to follow, and gives you all the tools you need to make the most of your NetGalley experience. A fantastic resource for book advocates at any stage!
This little book is full of great tips for using and reviewing books on Netgalley and I enjoyed looking through it and learning about things I didn't know about. 🙂
Loving these resources that have been coming out from We Are Bookish! They provide tools and strategies for reading and reviewing books. Even though I rarely use the digital kits, I still utilize bits and pieces in my paper logs.
NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit is a pretty good guide to start on NetGalley. It provides information about what to put in the profile, how to write reviews, etc. It's the kind of short book I wish had been available when I first joined NetGalley several years ago. Even now, it has helped me to tweak my profile a bit to make it more interesting and easier to read.
This book was super helpful and gave insight on what publishers are looking for and the best way to optimize our bio.
This was a handy guide about NetGalley, useful for both new users and seasoned reviewers. I learned about how to update my profile to be more attractive to publishers and all about DNFing.
A super handy guide about NetGalley that’s useful to both new and more confident users. It’s really well laid out and easy to read - I particularly liked the section on types of book access as it’s something I’ve always wondered about. I’ll definitely be making some adjustments to my account now that I’ve read this.
