I have a great love for history and historic novels and in that area The Blood List did not disappoint. Sarah Naughton easily transports the reader back to the 1600s and the superstition that was rife amongst the people there. I have seen a lot of readers who were disappointed that this book was not about actual witches and I have to disagree. The fear or the paranormal and particularly the persecution of (mostly) women who were accused of being witched is a dark chapter in all of our histories. This truth is far more terrifying than anything an author could make up. I did however struggle with this book in other ways. Mainly the character of Barnaby. I just didn't like him and more than that I found him boring. It made this book hard to get into and ruined any chance I had of truly enjoying this book.
