This is a very beautifully drawn comic. Its pretty colors and good character design are eye-catching. I liked the story so I'm reading the next volumes of the series.

This first book tells us about the mythology and about the characters, but it's an introduction to the serie.

Gorgeous illustrations - loved them! Story wise… It was maybe a bit too fast-paced? I get that it’s the start of a series of several volumes, but I would have liked to get to know the characters more before jumping into a big mystery and a big lore-filled world.

Rounded up to a four star because of the beautiful art by Alexa Sharpe.

My favorite thing about this graphic novel was the art style. The illustrations are beautiful and expressive, and as an artist myself, I was truly lost in the artwork.
Sadly, the story itself was very rushed and was not explained so well, and I felt I was lost a bit throughout the whole time. I like the concept, but I think it would have been better if this would be one bigger graphic novel and not a series. In 90 pages, it is impossible to be invested in the story and to feel connection to the characters. I don’t feel compelled to continue with the second volume, but if you like middle grade/ya fantasy graphic novels, give this a try.

This was very good! It was both sweet and a little haunting. The art style was my absolute favorite thing about this, its sooo beautiful. The story itself was fine, it felt a little rushed, but that might have just been because I read graphic novels very quickly. It also felt a little young, but I am kinda outta the age range this book seems to target, so no points off toward the book for that. Overall, this was great. I am considering continuing on in the series, which is not something I do a lot for graphic novels! HAd fun, I wholly recommend The Night Mother By Lambert and Sharpe if this seems up your alley.

I loved the art and the concept! The characters were interesting, and the moon lantern seemed really creative! However, there's part of me that wished the plot was longer. It felt like it left off right as things were starting to get interesting.

I do think this could have been a little longer, and the story could have been spread out a little.

This was a quick yet stunning graphic novel. The art style was beautiful and dreamlike. It reminded me of a segment from Fantasia 2000. From the get go I thought it looked like a hand drawn Disney movie from the early 2000s. (Think Atlantis or Treasure Planet) There is a lingering horror aspect to the story that I really enjoyed. The Night Mother reminded me of the witch from Scooby Doo & The Witch’s Ghost for some reason. (Which isn’t a bad thing at all!) The story itself is very intriguing and fairytale like. I wish this volume was longer. It is slated to have two more volumes, but with how short this first one is I can’t help but feel like it should’ve all been one volume. As soon as I started to get sucked into the characters and the story, I was almost at the end. I will definitely be reading the other volumes and recommending to friends. I am so curious about the world and hope it is expanded on more in future volumes.

A beautiful illustrated middle grade graphic novel about a town in perpetual night and a girl who can hear the dead.

Madeline is a twelve year old girl who lives with her father, Barnabus. Barnabus is the town's gravedigger and he's a scholar of the moon and the stars. He's been trying to figure out why the moon has been stuck in the sky for years.
For all her life, Madeline has been secluded in their little house by the graveyard, and lately she's been scared. The voices that call for her help don't stop and she's been having nightmares about an evil woman looking for her.
The Night Mother is coming to find her and take her away.

This graphic novel is gorgeous! The illustrations are so wonderful, so dreamlike, it was such a joy to read. Though the story is good, the art style is the one reason I would want to read the next volume. It's also the reason why I'm rounding the rating up to a four.

The story is magical. And it's creepy. I think a younger audience would really like seeing Madeline's adventures. I just wish it was a longer. This graphic novel is around 80 pages. So it's quite short. There's not much time to know the characters, to engage with the story and the choices and losses that happen to Madeline.
However, I really like the atmosphere, the vibe of the story and like I said, the illustrations take this story to another level.

If you like middle grade, or if you know kids that like fantasy or even scary stories (appropiate for their age), I think this is a fantastic choice for a next read.

This was a interesting graphic novel about a girl who’s adopted and her bio mother (a person who steals souls, literally) tries to essentially kidnap her for her own selfish reasons.

The illustrations were fantastic and the writing was lyrical and engaging which I think all children would enjoy.

Besides it’s fantasy elements and the main storyline I feel like this story has a deeper meaning to it. That it doesn’t matter where you come from, it doesn’t determine who you are or who you’re meant to be. Also it shows unconditional love from her father, and how family isn’t always blood related.

The artwork is just beautiful, but unfortunately the artist can't save this story from itself. It was so short and rushed that it didn't explain anything, so I was lost the whole time.

Occasionally I was a bit confused of what exactly was going on, but otherwise I enjoyed the book a lot and the art style especially was lovely.
I’m looking forward to reading the sequel.

The illustrations are so pretty: ethereal and magical, just like the subject matter. Although I wasn’t entirely clear on all the plot points, it still kept my interest.

This is a quick graphic novel that starts off a new series. The artwork is lovely -- I'm loving all the green! It's very detailed and I like that the layout of the pages varies with different styles. The story is interesting and I look forward to seeing what happens next as the ending leaves us on a cliffhanger. Volume 1 of The Night Mother is a great start to the series and I'll definitely be continuing with it as the next volumes come out.

The Night Mother follows a young girl who can hear the dead whispering in a land where they are stuck in perpetual moonlight. I loved the illustrations so much and I got very emotional over some parts of the story. The ending had me on the edge of my seat, so I will definitely be looking for Volume 2.

I have a deep love for graphic novels and nothing makes me happier then when the illustrations and story match with so much precision. This story is fantastic I love the concept of the moon mother and her role in the balance and shepherding of souls. I'm always fascinated by different takes on what happens when we die and I think that this is my favorite one that I have come across. I also was very moved at the love that the stargazer had for his daughter. As some one who was raised by a single dad this really resonated with me. I cannot wait to see what happens in Vol.2

This had absolutely stunning graphics and colors. I would revisit this just for the artwork. 5 stars for that. The story, though, felt a little bit confusing and rushed in some parts. It’s quite a short graphic novel at under 90 pages. I think it could have benefited from having more pages to flesh out the characters and their motivations. Overall, though, I can see where the story is going and do intend to pick up the next volume.

Dreamy, fantastical art around a world like something out of Little Nemo. I quite enjoyed the story and the framing of it, though the multiple view points did lead to some repetition of the same story beats. The story has a delightful sense of humor and captures some nice distinct speech styles for the characters themselves. I look forward to volume two and exploring the moon.
