This was a very easy book! Keep me engaged From the first page to last. Although at times it had some lulls they passed quickly.
A Sally Kilpatrick book is like a warm hug from an old friend for me. Her characters are always richly detailed, and her plots have plenty of whimsy and humor without ever tipping over into twee. Her latest is all of these things, with a soon-to-be divorced wannabe influencer finding her way in her suddenly upside-down world. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this book !! The relationship arcs in this story will make you smile and cry, sometimes at the same time !!! Some of the storylines were confusing at times and felt a little disjointed, but overall this is a solid read that will make you feel things in the best way !!!
3.5 stars rounded up. Vivian Quackenbush is a homemaker who runs a small YouTube channel as a pet project. Vivian and her husband are on their way to becoming empty nesters after nearly 25 years of marriage…until he blindsides her with a serving of divorce papers. A devastated and very drunk Vivian rips her soon-to-be ex-husband a new one on camera, and post the video to her channel. Unexpectedly, the video goes viral and Vivian becomes cemented in the history of the internet as a meme and a gif. We follow Vivian as she navigates her new-found internet fame and impending divorce.
What I loved most about this book was how it explored the various relationships between Vivian and the women in her life, and seeing how her foray into becoming an influencer impacts them. I think Vivian’s love life takes a back seat compared to the rebuilding of her relationship with her mother, which I really found to be quite moving. I particularly enjoyed seeing the mother and daughter duo band together to terrorize and evict the ex-husband! Overall, I thought this was a light and enjoyable read. Thank you to NetGalley for providing an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is hard for me to review. There were some aspects that I liked: the age of our FMC, the friend group, the humor. The parts I didn't like: it dragged, and the romance was barely there (why are these books listed as romance when that relationship is just an afterthought). Overall, an ok story. *I recevied an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.
Vivian Quackenbush’s life seems perfectly ordinary: wine evenings with her best friends, a son in college, and plans for an empty-nester future with her husband, Mitch. However, her world is turned upside down when Mitch announces he wants a divorce after nearly twenty-five years of marriage. Shocked and heartbroken, Vivian channels her pain into a candid and cathartic video rant that she posts online. Overnight, the video goes viral, and Vivian finds herself in the spotlight. With her new internet fame, she faces her husband’s fury, her son’s embarrassment, her mother’s support, and the media’s scrutiny. As she navigates this new chapter, she begins to explore who she truly wants to be, with a little help from her friends and perhaps even the charming younger single father next door.
Vivian's life has been turned upside down, her husband Mitch is having a mid-life crisis and wants a divorce, her only son is off at college and her relationship with her mother is strained at best. When Vivian finds out that Mitch wants to leave their marriage, she realizes that she needs to stop putting others first and focus on what makes her happy, which is her Mom Scouts YouTube channel. Through video uploads and impacts to her friends and family, Vivian starts to find out who she is and what life badge she wants to earn next.
Such a great read, had me cheering for Vivian and her mom and loved reading about her journey. Highly recommend this book to everyone who needs to know that there is rainbow at the end of the storm.
I like books like this. A bit of self reflection, humour and a super dramatic story line. So I really do not understand why people are so negative about this book AGAIN!
This story started on a really strong too close to home point for me. I felt bad for Vivian. But also, I really wanted her to find happiness again.
I really did enjoy this story. It made me feel all kinda of emotions and I loved the way it was written. Highly recommend this one!
Because NetGalley doesn't support spoiler tags or anything among those lines, I'm going to keep this review short and brief. So for my full thoughts and a bit of a summary, please head over to my Goodreads or The StoryGraph.
Unfortunately this book wasn't my cup of tea and didn't come in the right time for me. Overall I think the writing style is ok but nothing special and I think the pacing could've been better. Other than that the blurb is really the things that are happening and sometimes the scenery was a bit too much for me. I see others enjoying it more than I probably did.
I really liked the book but it was not my favourite!
The main character was really relatable
I would read this author's work again!
I love Sally's sassy, sweet Southern books, and this is one of her best. It has a balance of humor, heart, and a little bit of a bite. I got frustrated with the MC's friends abandoning her, but I see how that was necessary for growth on her part. And I'm so glad that while there's not an HEA, there's the possibility of one.
More books in this world, please?
This book was seriously laugh out loud funny!! As I was reading it, I found myself hearing Vivian's dialog so clearly in my head because it was so relatable!
The book starts out setting the stage for a beautiful friendship between three women who meet regularly in their cul-de-sac for conversation, wine and Cheeze-Its. You quickly learn that each woman brings something different to the group and that each woman takes something different away from it. Without giving too much away, the main character's crumbling of her marriage is the subject we know this book is going to be about based on the description but what it discovered along the way are the other issues that develop with the other characters. I think the most surprising, and most joyful, one for me is the relationship between Viv and her mother.
Although this book is so relatable to women going through the changes that come with children leaving home, a long term marriage that maybe is no longer fulfilling to at least one person and sorting out the unsurmountable challenges of going back to work after being a stay at home mom for decades, it becomes a fun escape when the reader also gets to go along with Vivian on less relatable things such as her YouTube videos, travel and discovering a new potential love match.
I highly recommend this book and would love to read a follow up book to see where Vivian's life takes her after the conclusion of this book!
I loved the message in this book. The FMC deals with great shocks, but still does her best and discovers much about herself throughout the story. I liked this! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
In "Nobody's Perfect," we meet Vivian , a middle-aged woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when her husband asks for a divorce. This sets the route for Vivian to discover herself again, thinking about her life and her choices while finding herself in some situations her route in this new path.
In this novel there are a lot of important themes such as motherhood, friendship, grief and love that can made you think especially if you can relate to the female main character situation.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
I’ve been devouring second chance romances lately and this is another one that I really did love! I also appreciate the older woman, younger man as this is a change for our usual story line IRL. We have all been there when we are fed up and may make a (slightly embarrassing) public display. Let’s all be Vivian and go for it though, be the person you thought you couldn’t be anymore just because you’re getting “older”. I don’t want to provide any spoilers, so read this book if you want inspiration on how to maneuver in a life full of change!
Thank you to the author, Netgalley, and the publishers for the opportunity to read this ARC!
Vivian’s life is changing quickly and she needs to figure out how to live her new life. She has her fair share of struggles, varying from entertaining to cringe worthy to depressing. Overall this was a quick read, entertaining and fun! Thanks for the ARC.
Hilariously written, Vivian is one of those characters you would just love to be friends with or could see one of your parents being like! This was a witty, well-paced read and I adore Sally Kilpatrick's writing style.
I absolutely love this author and everything she writes. This book....I devoured like all of her others. Thank you so much for the ARC!
After nearly twenty-five years of marriage Vivian is blindsidrd when her husband announced he wants a divorce. He confesses that he doesn’t love her anymore. Whilst feeling anger, frustration, and pain she posts a video online that goes viral within minutes of being online, Millions of views and counting—to Mitch’s fury, her son’s embarrassment, her mother’s support, and the media’s delight. For Vivian, it’s a moment of truth: hide or lean into it. Vivian 2.0 chooses to lean—maybe even toward the younger single father next door.
