How have I not read this series before?
This is another in the series of stories about Eddie Flynn and his team. Once I started, I couldn't put this book down. there are so many characters but it's not confusing. I liked all the members of Eddie's team all with their own quirks. And Eddie's methods as a lawyer, but thinking like a conman, are unique.
I couldn't see how the plotline would develop so that really kept me hooked.
Such a good read.

I struggled to get into this one.

Whilst I’m familiar with the Conman turned Lawyer, Eddie Flynn, I really feel like you do need to have read more than one of Cavanaghs books to fully immerse yourself in this one.

So much was happening, it was hard to follow at times.

There were so many characters that I was struggling to keep up. I assume a lot of them had backstories in previous books but I have only read The Defence so I was a bit lost.

Flynn is such a loveable rogue and his antics seem to always get him what he wants. Some of it is far fetched but that’s the beauty of a series like this. You are rooting for him no matter what.

I loved Ruby’s chapters. I thought she was so interesting and I wish there were more from her point of view. She was so cunning and the lengths she was going to for her family was admirable.

I didn’t expect the twist at the end!! I always love finding out the reason why.

I look forward to reading the other Eddie Flynn books.

Another brilliant book by Steve Cavanagh. A rollercoaster read so hard to put down when I started to read it.

This book had me from the first page. It’s a rollercoaster of a read, with great characters, all with interesting back stories, and all of whom could easily have their series or even a tv series. Eddie Flynn is a con man turned lawyer, with some great connections from his past, and the skills needed to be the sort of lawyer you would want on your side if every you were in that position. I liked Ruby, whose own past was not the best, having once had the life style of the people she now works for, before the family lost all their money and possessions due to some bad decisions by her father. Flynn is hired to defend John, who has been accused of the murder of a neighbour, and who Ruby works as a nanny for. I love the way the stories are all intertwined, the way the various main characters each have their own voices in a separate chapter, this works really well and builds the tension nicely. The plot is so beautifully twisted that it keeps you guessing right to the end, and it’s one that had me reading late into the night. Loved it.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I did enjoy this book although I did find there were lots of characters that I found difficult to keep up with. I have read Eddie Flynn books before and will read anymore that come out in the series..

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This is the 8th book in the series featuring Eddie Flynn, a former conman and now lawyer. His latest case is defending John a wealthy paediatric brain surgeon who has been falsely accused of murdering a neighbour. Ruby Johnson who works for several people in the rich neighbourhood where she once lived, is the witness who saw the murder and knows the identity of the killer. However when she contacted the police she gave them John's name and even planted the murder weapon in his house. Ruby works for John and his wife as a childminder and seems to like the family so why is she so intent on destroying them by having John convicted of murder. Eddie and his team must find a way of proving Ruby is lying and why. I really enjoyed this book even though it's the first I've read in the series and thought it worked well as a standalone though I intend to work my way through the previous books!

Mr Cavanagh has done it again ... created an excellent story that had me reading way too late into the night.

Eddie Flynn is back and then some! Not only does he have to defend his client against a charge of murder, a complex case in itself due to the witness account, but he also has to contend with a hit being put out on him following a run in with dodgy law enforcement officers.

This story has so much going for it ... excellent, intricate plot, fantastic characters, twists and turns, violence but also some touching moments that cements Eddie and his teams friendship.

What can I say ... just an excellent read from start to finish and whilst this is the eighth in the series, you can get away with reading it as a standalone but I would suggest you read the others ... you won't be disappointed.

Thank you to the author, Headline Publishing and NetGalley for enabling me to read and share my thoughts of this, another excellent installation to the Eddie Flynn story.

I’m a huge fan of Steve Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn series. Flynn is a conman turned lawyer, which means he’s always thinking at least three steps ahead, which makes his moves on behalf of huis client entertaining and unpredictable.

He surrounds himself with a bunch of good people who this time are added to with the introduction of Tony Two F***s and an intriguing new addition, a man with a dubious past, Gabriel Lake. Kate, Bloch, and Harry, Eddie Flynn’s mentor, one time judge and close friend make up the core team who are loyal and true. Eddie’s firm always takes on clients whom they believe to be innocent and this time it is Eddie who ends up with a price on his head and a deadly assassin or two after him.

Ruby Johnson is the character at the centre of a horrible murder. Ruby Johnson used to live in this neighbourhood before her parents fell on hard times, so she’s known and accepted by the residents. Now she acts as a nanny, babysitter and sometimes cleaner to her erstwhile neighbours. We know she’s not the innocent she claims to be, but quite how guilty she is – and of what remains to be determined.

The murder in question has taken place in an upmarket Manhattan neighbourhood where the residents take pride in knowing each other and never letting in those whose social standing might let the neighbourhood down.

Chief suspect is pediatric brain surgeon, John Jackson, whose skills as a brain surgeon are very highly rated. An anonymous tip off leads police to find the murder weapon in his home. The Prosecutor is convinced he has his man, but Eddie’s not so sure. What is clear though, is that Eddie’s investigations and his questioning of witnesses on the stand have made someone very anxious and now there’s a hit on him, led, but not confined to, the self styled Mr Christmas.

Cavanagh leads his readers on a cat and mouse chase where Eddie’s quick thining brain and wily ways have to keep him one step ahead of his pursuers, and when he briefly falters, the consequences are devastating.

Now he is fighting not only for his client, but for his own life and although Steve Cavanagh keeps up the entertainment and the humour, the reader is in no doubt that this is a deadly fight to the end.

Witness 8 is a fast paced and spellbindingly twisted tale that leads us through a justice system where the innocent are not always exonerated and the guilty stand a good chance of getting away scot-free. It’s a thrill ride with so many unexpected twists and turns and full of shady characters whom Eddie can turn to his advantage. His moves are brilliantly put together and the end, when it comes, is spectacularly delivered.

Verdict: Never short of clever and highly entertaining with well thought through plot moments, what makes these books so great are the fantastic characters married with an ingenious plot. Roll on the next one!

The latest in the Eddie Flynn series, I enjoyed this one more than any of the previous books. It can be read as a stand alone, but obviously there's always more for the regular reader if you're reading in order.
As with the other books in the series there's at least as much happening outside the courtroom as there is inside it in ex-conman now lawyer Eddie Flynn's latest case where he's been asked to to represent a prominent surgeon accused of murder. The case is a toughie, even if Eddie manages to stay alive by the end of it - no given certainty when a contract is put out on him.
What we the reader know from chapter 1 is there's a witness to the crime who has their own reason for framing the good doctor...and is prepared to do anything to make their plan work.
Witness 8 has a huge number of moving parts and it's to the author's credit and experience that they all work together and fit nicely in a fast moving tale.
There's some twists and turns - some more obvious than others, but things move at such pace if one doesn't work for you the next one'll be just around the corner.
As usual with the series it's always fun to watch the smartest man in the room run circles around everyone else even if he's so smart we never really doubt he's in danger.
Some interesting new additions to the series who could well work as spin off characters...

I really enjoyed this book. The story is clever, and even though the characters are all complete clichés, the story is so compelling that any criticisms seem inappropriate. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was my first Eddie book, and me last. Although the plot was interesting, and the multiple POV’s and unreliable narrator was enjoyable to read, I didn’t find myself warming to the characters. The MC’s seemed too perfect, never messing up and always very sure of themselves, although I did enjoy Ruby’s character. Eddie himself is an ex conman, so he of course knows everyone and everything that is going on. If you enjoyed a previously written book by Steve then you will likely enjoy this one. However, this was a DNF for me as I became uninterested in finding out what really happened.
As a result, I rated it a 2 stars as it was a well written book, just not for me.

My friends know I love this series, and I was squealing when I got a late approval for the latest Eddie Flynn. A friend's wedding and my slow recovery from surgery mean I'm slightly late with the review...
This was fantastic, and exactly what I've come to expect from Steve Cavanagh.
This is so well executed, the plot coninues ramping up and is completely addictive, but still the ending took me by surprise!
It was great fun to be back with Eddie and the team, the characters are so real now, and I felt the drama and stress along with them. I was surprised by the inclusion of certain events, (IYKYK) but it didn't detract from my enjoyment.

I just didn’t get the time to download this book unfortunately although I am very grateful to NetGalley and the publishers for approving my request. Sometimes the requests time out too quickly to enable us to read them. It’s a shame but I do think I will go on to buy this one.

"There is something wrong with Ruby..."

As a child, her father abused her mother and wasted their fortune on alcohol and gambling, before disappearing, leaving Ruby and her mother with nothing but his debts.

We join Ruby at the age of 22, working as a baby sitter in the same, wealthy street she grew up. She witnesses a murder, knows the killer and see's him hide the weapon. She makes a decision no one else would make. To frame an innocent man. Remember the opening line of this book, "there's something wrong with Ruby".

Eddie Flynn, former conman, now lawyer, only defends the falsely accused. He takes on the case and is soon wrapped up in the world of crime lords, hitmen, blackmail and more murders.

Eddie's unconventional approach is a delight to read, as he uses his conman history to cleverly manipulate people and plan his defence.

As a first time reader of Steve Cavanagh I had some trepidation starting off with the 8th book in the Eddie Flynn series of novels. However, I needn't have been concerned. The tempo of Steve's novels draw you in, the characters are beautifully described and have depth, hinting at backstories I assume are filled out in his previous books. There is no need to have prior knowledge of the world of Eddie Flynn to quickly become hooked.

I will definitely be picking up the Eddie Flynn back catalogue to delve further into this interesting world.

Thanks to Headline and Netgalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own

Sometimes it is good to read a book set in a different country and this one is an excellent example . It highlights the corruption within the NYPD plus their legal system and the errors with using DNA which many are now realising is not indisputable. An eminent surgeon has been set up for murder and we know by whom but not the reasons behind this. The characters are all very different and this helps to carry the story through. Plenty to keep the reader guessing and page turning throughout.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC to review.

I've read a few Steve Cavanagh books, and they're all quite similar. Eddy Flynn was once a con artist but has turned his hand to law. Some of the scenarios are ridiculous, especially as Eddie and his team always use their wiley ways to get out of a tricky situation. However, if you can get past that, his books are very entertaining and keep you turning the pages. I also find Eddie very likeable, which helps a lot. If you're looking for a fast-paced and entertaining read, then this is for you. If you're after a more serious courtroom drama, go elsewhere. Thank you, Netgalley, and the publishers for the opportunity to read an advance copy.

I was granted an ARC of this book from NetGalley and I was hooked as soon as I read the prologue. The author built suspense from very early on in the book and I constantly found myself frustrated that I didn’t have more free time to keep on reading.

Overall I think this book was extremely well written and a very easy read. I really liked how the author wrote each chapter from a different person’s perspective, this was a huge positive for me. I find that this adds a lot of depth to a plot and enables you to really connect with the different characters as you experience the plot from their POV. I also liked how there were a few situations going on throughout that formed the main plot and all connected together as the book progressed.

I hadn’t read any of the other books in the Eddie Flynn series prior to reading this and I don’t feel like it took away from how much I enjoyed it. This was one of my favourite books I’ve read recently and I will definitely be reading more books from this series to get more of an insight into Eddie Flynn’s past. There was never a dull point in the book where I found myself bored or not wanting to read on and I highly recommend reading it!
