So good to have Eddie Flynn back in this twisty, dark read.
A few 'Oh no, don't let this happen' moments, a lot of tension, delightfully complex baddies and sleight of hand from Eddie and crew.
A nice balance between backstory, courtroom drama and action. Thoroughly enjoyable!

5 STARS 5 STARS 5 STARS!!! This book was so good. The Eddie Flynn series is one of my favourites, it’s fast paced and there is never a dull moment. When I requested this book I was worried as I’ve still got a few in the series I haven’t read (I never want it to end so I’ve saved them 😂) but this reads so well as a stand alone or part of a series. I loved every single character and connected with them all straight away even if I’ve had a few years out from reading the series. If you’re looking for some court room drama, murder mystery and some mobster action thrown in as well, this is the perfect book for you!!

Excited to be back in Eddie Flynn’s world!

Ruby, a nanny and maid to the families of West 74th street in Manhattan witnesses a murder on her way home one evening.
When reporting the crime anonymously she lies and implicates one of her employees, John Jackson.
Eddie is working to defend Jack and figure out how and why the murder weapon was found in his house with his DNA on.
During the lead up to the trial and the trial itself, Eddie is in danger when a hit is taken out on him.

Eddie and his team have to work to figure out the real killer whilst dodging hitmen.

Fast paced legal thriller with some great and unexpected twists.

I really enjoyed this book. Every Steve Cavanagh book is fast paced, twisty and fully engaging and Witness 8 didn't disappoint.

Eddie Flynn is such a great character to read, as are Bloch and Harry

If you love the Eddie Flynn books, you'll love this one. The first chapter hooks you in for a fun filled ride.

Enjoy!

2.5/5. I’m disappointed I didn’t enjoy this one, as I’ve loved my previous reads from Cavanagh. This one felt like it was lacking suspense and the pacing was slow. I didn’t feel the urge to keep reading like I have with others and was a bit underwhelmed with the ending unfortunately. Hopefully the next is more up my street!

This is a fast paced thriller and courtroom drama about a man falsely accused of murder and how the amazing Eddie Flynn finds a way to prove his innocence. I will be reading more of the Eddie Flynn books. It is a very well constructed story by a very good author.

Yet another brilliant Cavanagh novel with one of my favourite characters- Eddie Flynn. I've read every book in this series and each one just gets better and better. I've enjoyed this book even more than the very first one I read. Definitely up there with my favourite authors.

I could just keep this short and sweet and say Cavanagh nails it again. Eddie has a ransom on his head, and killers on his tail. Something bad happens to one of his misfit ‘renegade’ family. A family nanny with Machiavellian tendencies, weirdly befriended by a hitman with Santa pretensions. A sticky court case, an assortment of suspects, and Flynn and his team having to rely on their wits and street smarts to defend their client. Oh and keep Eddie from being assassinated…

As in every previous review for this marvellous series, Cavanagh pulls it pout of the bag again, in terms of tension, plotting, red herrings, nifty tricks and teases, and some first class reveals. I can tell you nothing more definitive about the plot, without revealing some crucial spoilers, but suffice to say, you’re gonna like this one. Very much. The characterisation is spot on, from Tony Two F… to sassy Denise, to the clinically focussed Kate, the wily Bloch, and series stalwart ex-judge Harry Ford. I am very intrigued by Gabriel Lake, and like his addition to Eddie’s merry if slightly dysfunctional band. There’s humour, drama, derring-do, more drama, and it’s just a great piece of storytelling. Another pitch perfect addition to this excellent series.

Loved it.

Highly recommended.

Witness 8 by Steve Cavanagh
Having read other Eddie Flynn stories I knew what to expect with a Steve Cavanagh thriller and this definitely delivered. A young woman babysits and cleans for a wealthy neighbourhood. She used to be a resident of these streets but her father’s gambling led to them losing everything. Now she watches, waits and plans.
One night she witnesses a murder and as sees the opportunity to manipulate the murderer. A local brain surgeon is accused of the murder and Eddie Flynn is employed to try and get him off. The police have what appears to be solid evidence against him so what can Eddie do for the man and his family?
Meanwhile Eddie has annoyed the wrong people and a contract is put out on him and many people race to fulfil the hit. This is a fast thriller and if you have never read any of the Eddie Flynn novels this will be entertaining but if you have read the other novels you will be able to have a greater understanding of the characters and their roles and you will also have a great deal of fun reading them.
I wholeheartedly recommend the novel and will be suggesting it to my various book groups. Many thanks to the author, the publishers and to Net Galley for the opportunity to read the book in return for an honest review. If I could i would probably rate it 4.5.

I love the Eddie Flynn series. The complex cases, the con man turned defendant lawyer with always a trick up his sleeve, the twists that you won’t see coming, and the suspense that keeps you on the edge of the seat from start to finish.

In Witness 8, Eddie has a new case. Ruby Johnson works as a nanny and maid for the rich and wealthy of an exclusive residential street in New York. One night, while returning home from a babysitting job, she witnesses the murder of one of the residents. She makes an anonymous call to the police, but she doesn’t tell them what she really saw. The man accused of the murder is a renowned surgeon and Eddie and his team are convinced of his innocence, but it is going to be difficult to prove it when the gun used for the murder is found hidden in his closet and his fingerprints on it. In the meantime, Eddie’s life is in danger after a group of corrupted NYPD officers puts a price on his head.

I love the character of Eddie. He takes on cases only if he’s convinced of his client’s innocence and fights for them with everything he has. He doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty, often using the skills he acquired in his previous life as a conman. I also found quite interesting the character of Ruby. She is smart and devious, often playing on the fact that she is underestimated and simply considered invisible as one of the help, so people don’t notice what she is planning until the end. Quite a complex character that I hope we’ll see again in the future in this series.

Fast-paced, intriguing, and very suspenseful, Witness 8 is another fabulous addition to this addictive series.

Ruby Johnson witnesses the murder of a woman - then she contacts the police anonymously naming an innocent man as the perpetrator.
Eddie and his colleagues believe in the innocence of the man accused and are determined to have him released. Meanwhile there is a hit out on Eddie Flynn which is attracting the interest of man hit men.
Steve Cavanagh never disappoints - another real page turner.
Many thanks to Netgalley/Steve Cavanagh/Headline for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.

A new instalment in this superb series is always an event, and Witness 8 is well worth the wait. As always Steve Cavanagh's writing is exemplary, and the plotting is spot on. Eddie Flynn, the former conman turned lawyer, is a delight, even if his methods may be questionable! He finds himself in grave danger but shows his customary resilience while working to prove the innocence of a client. Brilliant!

I was never NOT going to love this! My favourite author & one of my favourite cast of characters - it was always going to be a firm favourite 2024 release.

I loved the two storylines running side by side and the way the plots all threaded together towards the end so interestingly.

Ruby had this way of making you root for her, whilst also thinking what an awful person she is. An amazingly written morally grey character.

I loved seeing more insight into Lake as a character!

It was all so tricky and twisted & just.. perfection. I can’t wait for the next Eddie instalment. I’m counting down the days!

Cavanagh's latest Eddie Flynn caper is a rollercoaster ride with a few too many flat spots. While the plot twists kept me hooked, it lacked the razor-sharp intensity of his previous work. Kate's evolution is a welcome addition, but the courtroom showdown feels like an afterthought. Still, fans of the series will find plenty to enjoy.

Steve Cavanagh is back with an Eddie Flynn story that will force you to turn paste after page in the anticipation of the next plot twist! Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

I found this book very entertaining. The plot is not as tight as some of his other works but it is good enough for you to not be distracted. I am enjoying Kate's character development as this series progresses. She was always presented as a formidable woman but she is coming into her own with tight cross examinations, learning some of Eddie's ways and making a space for herself in this world.

My one criticism here is that the courtroom drama section is reduced to the last quarter of the book. This series is partly great because of the interesting courtroom scenes and I was slightly let down in that aspect. But if you enjoy the Eddie Flynn series as a whole you will enjoy this installment as well.

💭Eddie Flynn is back!!

In the eighth instalment of the Eddie Flynn series, Cavanagh once again delivers a gripping courtroom drama, though this entry, Witness 8, doesn’t quite soar to the dizzying heights of its illustrious predecessors.

As always, Cavanagh's storytelling is a masterclass in pacing, with short, punchy chapters and a rotating cast of perspectives that keeps the narrative brisk and engaging. Yet, there’s a slight shift this time around. The plot twists, typically Cavanagh’s trademark of unpredictability, felt a bit like déjà vu—foreseeable rather than startling. In past novels, I was kept on tenterhooks, eagerly second-guessing every twist. Here, the revelations were a tad more transparent, which sapped some of the thrill.

One of my favorite elements of the series—the electrifying courtroom scenes—was notably scarce. The high-stakes drama of cross-examinations and courtroom showdowns, which usually leave me biting my nails, was largely absent. Much of the case unfolds away from the courtroom, which left me longing for the adrenaline rush and unexpected turns that are the hallmark of Eddie’s legal battles.

However, the series’ beloved characters continue to shine. The evolution of Eddie and his team remains a joy to follow, and the new villain, Mr. Christmas, adds a deliciously menacing touch with his obsessive commitment to etiquette.

While Witness 8 may not hit the same exhilarating highs as Thirteen and Fifty-Fifty, it’s still a stellar 4.25-star read. Cavanagh's sharp writing and complex characters ensure that it’s a worthy addition to the series. Fans will find much to appreciate here, even if it doesn’t quite capture the magic of earlier books. I’m eagerly anticipating the next instalment, hopeful that it will restore the series to its thrilling glory.

𝐏.𝐒. To date, this series remains unmatched in its excitement and gripping legal drama.

Another incredible book from Steve Cavanagh, this guy really knows how to grab your attention and some characters, like Mr Christmas will stay with you for a while, this is a character who could have a series of novels all of their own. Witty and engaging I cannot recommend this book highly enough and it is certainly my best read of the year so far and will definitely feature in the book awards for 2024. If you have never read any of the Eddie Flynn series firstly, why not and secondly - no really, why not?? The only thing to do is to dive in and read them from beginning to end

Steve Cavanagh does it again, he is a true master of this genre and I know when I pick up one of his books that I will entertained throughout. Witness 8 sees the return of lawyer Eddie Flynn and his bandit of friends and colleagues as they work on a case involving a murder on a prestigious New York residential street where a man has been wrongly accused of the murder or his neighbour.
There are awesome twists, cracking dialogue, lightening fast pacing and as always, an unexpected yet satisfying conclusion.
Loved it. Recommend.

This was a great read that I sat down and finished in 1 day. The story centres around the maid Ruby, who is not all she seems and appears to be ruled by a painting of a cardinal priest. The characters are so well described and the areas that are described really bring the activity alive. This covers how the richer side of society lived and the activity of the criminal side of life. The book kept me on edge as the twists were frequent and made me rethink what was going on and what would happen next.
