This psychological thriller hooked me immediately and kept me guessing throughout. Having been in education for thirty years, I could honestly relate to all of the hard work and sacrifice that the protagonist went through. The pages were filled with true emotion and I applaud the author’s bravery for touching on an extremely controversial and deeply personal subject. Compelling, intense, and suspenseful describe this intriguing page-turner. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but definitely will not be the last. Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my copy.
When Liz gets her dream job of being the head teacher at a school what could possibly go wrong. She thinks everything is going her way but is it really. Teaching at the same facility as her daughter was a student until a recent incident. I feel like this book lacked some background information that would have been pertinent to the storyline and made it more interesting. Overall it was a fast paced book and if you are a fan of Freida McFadden you will love this book too.

Review for 'The Head Teacher' by H.M. Lynn
Well I must admit I am extremely impressed!!! I was absolutely gobsmacked when I realised this is the same HM Lynn who wrote the romantic and sweet 'Holly Berry Sweet Shop' series under her full name Hannah Lynn!! You lady have one heck of a talent!! To go from an easy, smile on your face and heart-warming series and books to an action packed, suspense filled psychological thriller takes talent and you have it in absolute bucket loads! I absolutely adored this page turner just as much as I have loved your feel good books but for very different reasons!! This storyline was absolutely ram packed with hair raising action which kept me turning the pages while on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happened next. The book was filled with drama, tension, suspense, twists, lies, secrets and absolutely everything that you could ask for in an addictive psychological thriller!! This book takes the reader straight into the action leaving them constantly wanting to know what happens next from the very first page until the last!! I was absolutely mind blown when it came to the final shock which I would never have seen coming!! I have read hundreds of crime books so it is getting harder and harder to surprise me and considering this is your first psychological book MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS are in order as you managed it hook, line and sinker!! There is nothing worse than guessing who did what when your not even half way through a book but there's no worry of that here. I could not put this book down as every single time I even thought about it something else would happen until I just had to read one more until this happened so much I had devoured it in one sitting of a few hours so make sure you clear your schedules before starting!! An absolutely unputdownable addictive page turner!!. Needless to say this would make an absolutely epic movie!!! With a realistic and gripping storyline, loads of action and drama and a bucket load of suspense this is definitely a must read for any fans of thrillers!!!!
Clear your schedules before you even turn a single page on this epic psychological thriller as you will not be able to put it down!!
This is one of those books where it is extremely difficult to say much about the characters without giving any of the storyline. Our main protagonist is Liz who I was completely invested in immediately. I really liked the fact she is so strong and determined but also the way she is open and honest. I am a huge fan of female protagonists being female myself and Liz is a brilliant character. Some people may dislike her personality due to her openness but I, personally, prefer someone to be open and honest that a back stabber. I was not a fan of her daughter Sasha who, yes has had a tough time herself and I don't envy that but there was no excuse for the way she is towards her mother and I just seen her as a bit of a brat! i was also not a fan of her husband Jamie who I felt could have been a lot more supportive and caring than he was as one minute he was supporting her, or seeming to, and the next he would turn against her. My heart did go out to Liz and thanks to Lynn's emotive and evocative descriptions she really came to life along with the rest of the characters, the surroundings and the storyline itself. What I will say is that this is a book filled with many unlikeable characters that you have no idea who is telling the truth, who is hiding what and why they are doing certain things. Lynn ensures each one of them come to life in front of your eyes and that you can see, feel and hear everything that they are while turning the pages. She has done an absolutely fantastic job of creating several realistic characters each with their own unique personalities and mixing them into a storyline that has an ending you will never see coming!! However, regardless of how you feel about any of the characters they each play their part perfectly bringing out each and every one of your emotions throughout this action packed, addictive page turner!!
Well done HM Lynn on an absolutely amazing thriller debut!! I just cannot wait to see what you will come up with next!!
Overall an absolutely addictive, intriguing, page turning and suspense packed thriller that will keep you hooked!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Head Teacher - H.M. Lynn
What a ride! Fast paced, filled with tension - simply brilliant!
Having been in the education sector professionally, there was a lot of what was in this belter of a read that resonated with me.
Never mind Liz, the main character, being blind sided, confused and stressed at every turn - myself as the reader felt pretty much the same…..I LOVED it!
This was the first book that I’ve read by the author - will now go and see if there are any others from the back catalogue that spark my interest like this one did!
Its not that I didn't like it, but the secrets and the twists at the end fell a bit flat for me. Could have been more fast paced and thrilling, unfortunately it didn't hit the mark for me.
Settling into her second year as head teacher at a prestigious Catholic school Liz knows that there are those on the staff who are determined to get the better of her but with steely determination she is not going to let anyone bring her down. With her days filled with endless administration and with a PA who is less then helpful Liz always feels that she is catching up on herself and so, when things start to go awry, Liz must work out for herself who, on the staff, wishes her harm.
With a plot which grips from its intense prologue The Head Teacher is one of those stories which quickly becomes hard to put down and I found that I was so engrossed in the plot that I read the book in one sitting. As not only does the book focus on a very realistic interpretation of school life but it also focuses on Liz's complicated family life and especially her relationship with Sasha, her troubled teenage daughter. The family have a secret which, if discovered, will expose them all to intense scrutiny and yet, as we discover, secrets have a way of being exposed. Fast paced, engrossing and with a surprise ending I didn't see coming this is psychological suspense at its best.
The Head Teacher by HM Lynn, when I realized that this is the same author who did the Greek romances and the peas and carrots series I thought I would love this book but sadly I only found it OK. I do like her writing style in the fact that her characters for the most part seem like real people as opposed to a character in a story but the beginning of the book with the day today school stuff I’m sorry to say board me and although there was slight drama with her filling the shoes of the beloved head teacher previously I just wasn’t so interested I thought the killer Elsa what happened and as for the thing with her daughter and the previous incident I DK but when all the nitty-gritty started to happen I found it at best slow and hard to bite my teeth into if you know what I’m saying I did like Liz and in the beginning her husband I don’t know I am finding it hard to give a rating to this book as well as give it a brief review because of how much I love this Author, so I will just say if you like slow burn women’s fiction with a little dash of thriller then you may enjoy this book. I want to say I do love H M Lynn’s books so much… Just not this one, I am so sorry. #NetGalley, #BoldwoodBook, #HMLynn, #TheHeadTeacher,
I’m having a hard time rating this one, the story was good, when it got good … The beginning was confusing. I completely understand the moody teenager, and the stress of school, work, etc … but I wish there would, have been a,little background so I know who I was supposed to be sympathizing with. The story took awhile to build up, the. It was captivating, yet seemed to drag on. The author did a great job of bringing everything around and showing how the pieces fit. The ending fell a bit flat. It was a nice, fast read - but not a gripping thriller.
I'm in awe of Lynn and the way she so easily switches genre and always comes up with another brilliant book! In fact I don't think I've read anything less than a five star worthy read from her.
This is Lynn's debut into psychological thrillers and it certainly didn't disappoint. It only took several pages and that was me hooked and I didn't stop until I'd finished.
It's fast paced, twisty and certainly had me getting lost and taking the wrong path several times. I was left mouth well and truly agape with the final sting in the tail. I so love a book that comes with unreliable narrators and plenty of drama, and that's exactly what I got! The suspense and tension were real, and the plot brilliant.
A brilliant book by one of my favourite must read authors. I'm already looking forward to Lynn's next thriller venture with anticipation.
Liz has just landed her dream job as head teacher at St. Ann’s School, but someone seems determined to see her fail. With numerous suspects and hidden motives, Liz must uncover the culprit before it's too late. As a teacher, I was drawn to this book, and it didn't disappoint. From the gripping start to the unexpected twist at the end, I was completely absorbed in the mystery. The revelation was a surprise, and the book proved to be an engaging thriller.
Wowzers! This book was one hell of a ride through the life of a Headteacher in a strict catholic school. Not everyone is thrilled that Liz got the job and so as she starts her second year in the role, she is determined to win everyone's trust, but someone has other ideas and is set to destroy Liz and everything she holds dear.
I was drawn in from the first page, the writing is excellent and the pace is fast. It was so hard to work out who was telling the truth and who was lying and, as Liz's husband, best friend and daughter pulled away from her and she became increasingly desperate to hold onto them and convince them she wasn't behind the sabotage, the tension was crazy high!
The author kept us waiting until the very end before revealing the truth and was it worth the wait? Absolutely, YES!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, H. M. Lynn and Boldwood for an ARC in return for an honest review.
OMW, loved this book from beginning to end! The writer added small glimpses of humour throughout to show that head teachers are real people too. Story line was great and had a few guesses as I was reading........totally wrong! Ending was not what I expected but understood why it happened.
Looking for more by this author, great read!
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publishers for allowing me the chance to read and review this book
H.M. Lynn's The Head Teacher is a psychological thriller with dark undertones. Liz is a woman navigating the treacherous waters of ambition and deception as she assumes the coveted role of headteacher at St Ann's.
Lynn's masterful storytelling creates an atmosphere of unease that permeates every chapter, building suspense and leaving clues that keep readers guessing until the final, shocking revelation. The characters are complex and relatable, their motivations shrouded in layers of doubt, making it difficult to be sure who is friend or foe.
I particularly liked the authenticity of the school setting, with compelling details which made me think this would make a great TV drama serial.
What sets The Head Teacher apart is Lynn's ability to delve into the psychological depths of her characters. The plot twists are unexpected and satisfying, propelling the story forward at a relentless pace. Hannah Lynn's writing is crisp and engaging.
If you are a fan of psychological thrillers that will keep you gripped, The Head Teacher is an an impressive novel that will leave a lasting impression.
This is a story about a wife and mother at the start of her second year of being head teacher at a Catholic school. She stressed by all the work, but she loves her job and makes it a priority. On the first week of the new term an inappropriate photo is on a screen where all the kids can see it. There is also incriminating evidence that she did something some 20 years ago. Her 17-year-old daughter had a similar experience which also becomes public knowledge. Then perseverance and determination take over as she attempts to find out who is spreading the stories. Everyone at the school is suspect and as the story moves on the intensity increases. The end is a big surprise. I read it in one day because I couldn't put it down. I happily recommend this book.
I'm reviewing this via NetGalley, as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.
This is a gripping psychological thriller. I was drawn in from the prologue. The protagonist was Elizabeth Croft, headteacher of St Anne’s school. Reading her narrative, she didn't strike me as particularly likeable or kind, but there was something about her openness and honesty that resonated with me. In places, I felt she had a wry sense of humour that I enjoyed. Elizabeth seemed to make observations about others around her, and form opinions based on them, and it occurred to me that, at least to a degree, this is simply human nature.
The more I carried on reading, the more intrigued I became. This was a nail-biter that had me turning the pages quickly, and as the story progressed, I began to empathise more with Elizabeth. The suspense kept building, with some surprising twists along the way. If you are a thriller reader, you might like this.
Thank you to NetGalley, Rachel's Random Resources, Boldwood Books, and to the author, for the opportunity to read and review this.
Fantastic book! They are so many plots going on, which work well with each other and didn’t become confusing.
I really warmed to Liz and felt for her, especially while having to deal with the most annoying daughter, a snivelling gaslighter of a husband and the governer from hell 🙄.
I was constantly changing my mind about who was doing what and the final twist was an unexpected surprise, I loved the reasons why.
A must read for any thriller fan
A great psychological thriller full of suspense, I was so hooked on this book, I had to find out what was going to happen.
This was a great psychological thriller. I really enjoyed the story line with Liz covering up her past while becoming the headmaster at a Catholic school. There were plenty of twists and turns in the story and it definitely keep me up reading into the night. A suspenseful easy read. I would highly recommend it to all that enjoy a good thriller and mystery.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC.
This is a different genre for this author and I think she has done a great job. She has kept you guessing and trying to find out who to guilty party is. Right up to the end. I hope that she doesn't give up writing in this field.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the Publisher and leaving a review by my own accord.
