I will never stop reading and recommending anything by Caitlin Moss. She never fails to amaze me with the amount of emotion she packs into one story. The will they, won’t they in this one pulled at my heartstrings and had me not wanting to put it down. This one is a must read!!
I got major One Day in December vibes with this one and that’s a good thing in my estimation because I loved that book.
You should be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster. This plot gave me so much anxiety! This was “right person, wrong time” but over and over again for the entire book!!! Every time you thought it would finally work out, BAM! a new tragedy or major life event keeping them apart. The universe made them work for their HEA.
No shortage of excitement in this one, though. It kept me on the edge of my seat. It made me laugh and cry and get angry.
I think that readers who love a romance with a lot of emotion will definitely enjoy this. It’s not necessarily a light-hearted read but they pay-off is worth it.
This is a "right person, wrong time" story and it was a good one. The book is set in Chicago which I love since I live here lol. It's emotional, it's thoughtful, it isn't a repetitive story that you read nowadays.
In Julia’s world, everything is easily explained. Simple, uncomplicated, logical. Until she meets JP on a cross-country flight, the handsome kindergarten teacher charms her with his wit, humor, and irresistible smile. While spending a magical night wandering the streets of Seattle, the two stumble upon a fortune teller who predicts their futures will forever be entwined. But sometimes the road to love isn’t a straight line. Over the span of five years, careers, different cities, and missed chances stand in the way of them being together. It isn’t until she starts listening to the advice of her late grandmother, who visits her dreams since that first night in Seattle, does Julia realize not everything about love is straightforward. If she hopes to discover why an invisible string continues to pull her back to him, she must trust her grandmother’s advice and, ultimately, herself.
I absolutely ADORED this book. I love the storyline so much with it's second, third and fourth chances at love. That it is only right at the right time. The characters are delightful and I enjoyed Julia and JP so, so much.
Thanks to the author and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first read from Caitlin Moss and it definitely will not be my last! I thought this was such a fun, unique book. I feel like it’s easy to write a book where everything continuously clicks into place for the characters so it’s refreshing to find one that feels like real life where things don’t always work out as planned. The topics of grief, right person wrong time and toxic relationships can be difficult to write but I thought that Caitlin portrayed them perfectly!
Such a fun read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
I liked this book, but I didnt love it. Just as a warning, you will feel every emotion possible reading this book.
And thats not a bad thing, but just know it's not a happy go lucky rom com kind of book.
Still, I enjoyed the story and the characters! I think Moss did a good job and I would definitely read other books by her!
Wellllll your heart will be ripped out and put back together a million times.
JP and Julia meet by chance and then continue to cross paths but their timing isn’t right again and again. While normally that type of story makes me roll my eyes you just can’t help rooting for these two. The banter and the chemistry made you just want them to be able to figure it out. This one will rip your heart out for a million reasons but the journey was beautiful.
If you like romance with a side of emotions and tears then you’ll like this one too!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I can’t ever go into one of Caitlin’s books with expectations of any kind. She loves to throw the curve balls!
The first 40-45ish% is fairly standard rom-commy. You love the characters, you enjoy the cute fun story, and expect it to be a light fun read from there. Then the author says “GIRL YOU THOUGHT!!”
Around that 40-45% mark we start to get some drama, some intrigue, some TENSION, and then….some heartache.
That last Gramma Elle chapter? Chills. CHILLS I SAY!!
❤️
Oh this was HEARTBREAKING in the BEST way. I have so much respect for authors who can capture the delicacies of human emotions on paper. This is romance that pulls you in from the beginning but the plot delivers a novel that’s so so much more. I was cheering for the characters, but devastated with their situations right along side them. It’s precious that he’s a kindergarten teacher, and it emphasizes how pure his heart is throughout the entire book. Cheers to these deep “once in a lifetime” loves that never leave our hearts and change us for the better.
I received an advance review copy for free from the publisher via Netgalley and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was hooked from the first chapter. Goodbye Again was well written, with the perfect amounts of banter, angst, tension, and romance. JP was utterly charming, and both he and Julia were perfectly flawed. It was both heartbreaking and uplifting. I enjoyed the growth of the MCs and their relationships, especially that of Julia and her mom. My only complaint was that some of the plot points were a bit clichéd. This was my first book by Caitlin Moss, and it won’t be my last.
really enjoyed this book, a new author for me and i was engaged with the characters straight away and the story had me wanting to read more.
a great holiday read
This book is perfection. I'm still coming down from devouring it, I couldn't put it down. JP and Julia were perfectly written, perfectly flawed, and you can't help rooting for them.
I'm too overwhelmed to even write a coherent review. If you love romances with incredible banter, a bit of mysticism, will-they-or-wont-they, invisible string and the perfect amount of spice, I tell you this is for you.
Immense thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I will hold this book dear.to my heart and in my top 5 reads of 2024.
This book was really good. It had me invested in the main characters from the very beginning of the novel. I liked the character development of Julia and JP. It definitely was the right person/wrong time theme. They had great chemistry throughout the entire book.
I really enjoyed the grandmother and the dreams. It definitely added some magic to the book. I would definitely recommend this book. Caitlin Moss wrote a fun, second-chance romance and I couldn't put the book down.
Thank you NetGalley and Caitlin Moss for the ARC.
As always Caitlin Moss delivers. I loved this premise and the dual settings. The book gets you in all the feels as hers do. I laughed, I cried and I was rooting for them the whole time.
I had a really hard time getting into this one. I wanted to live it but it was overall just an ok read for me
Fav Caitlin Moss book so far!!! An autobuy author and she has done it again. Beautiful story about wrong place/ wrong time. Must read!
absolutely devoured this poolside!!! it was so bingeworthy and good and the romance was so much fun 👏🏼
i love “right person wrong time” tropes and this reminded me a lot of SEVEN SUMMERS which is buzzing around this summer.
so many one liners had me gasping—the tension and angst and love story was so powerfully built up and believable. i also loved how each character supported the others dreams and goals with their careers. adult romances >>>
also there is a twist in here that will make you gasp!! seriously i was almost teary eyed! it’s deff more of an emo romance but has a good amount of spice too!
also 3 cheers for a book set in CHICAGO!! let’s gooo!!! 🌃
support your indie authors and grab a copy of this when it releases on 9/3!!! thank you to Caitlin for the gifted copy :)
Caitlin Moss’s Goodbye Again offers a heart-tugging, emotionally complex love story that explores the idea of fate, timing, and the sometimes winding road to finding your soulmate. Filled with charming moments, missed opportunities, and a dash of magical realism, the novel invites readers into a romance that spans five years, with all the complications and twists that life can throw in the way of true love.
At the center of the story is Julia Waters, a pragmatic woman who believes in logic and simplicity—until her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets JP Chapman on a cross-country flight. JP, a charming kindergarten teacher with an irresistible smile, quickly shakes up Julia’s worldview with his humor and warmth. What starts as a chance meeting soon turns into a magical night spent wandering the streets of Seattle, setting the stage for what could be a whirlwind romance. The added layer of a mysterious fortune teller predicting that their futures will be forever entwined adds a captivating element of destiny to their story.
One of the strengths of Goodbye Again is Moss’s portrayal of the protagonists as grounded, relatable characters. Julia is practical to a fault, a woman who struggles to balance her head and heart, while JP is easygoing and likable, someone who brings light into Julia’s otherwise orderly world. Their chemistry is undeniable from the start, and their connection feels real, making readers root for them from their very first encounter.
However, the novel’s brilliance lies in its exploration of missed chances and the obstacles that keep Julia and JP apart. Over the course of five years, different cities, career ambitions, and poor timing continually push them in opposite directions. The story cleverly plays with the idea that love is not always a straight line—sometimes it’s full of diversions, delays, and moments where everything feels just out of reach. Moss skillfully uses these twists to build anticipation and tension, making readers wonder whether fate will eventually align in their favor.
The subplot involving Julia’s late grandmother visiting her in dreams is a lovely touch that adds emotional depth and a hint of magical realism. Through these dream visits, Julia receives advice from her grandmother, helping her navigate the complexities of her relationship with JP. This element allows the novel to explore themes of trust, intuition, and the importance of listening to one's heart. Julia’s struggle to reconcile her logical nature with her growing belief in fate and the invisible thread connecting her to JP makes for an emotionally rich character arc.
Moss’s writing is thoughtful and evocative, especially in the scenes that detail the passing years and the bittersweet moments of almost-connection between Julia and JP. Their near-misses, emotional distance, and lingering hope are portrayed with an authenticity that many readers will find both frustrating and heart-wrenching, but also reflective of real-life relationships. The novel’s pacing allows for these emotional beats to land, giving readers time to feel the weight of each separation and the promise of each potential reunion.
If there’s a minor drawback, it’s that some readers may wish for more direct interactions between Julia and JP as the years pass. While their brief encounters and emotional exchanges are powerful, there’s a sense of wanting more of them together, particularly as the novel builds toward its conclusion. That said, the emotional tension and longing work in the novel’s favor, keeping readers invested in their journey.
Final Thoughts:
Goodbye Again is a beautifully crafted, emotionally resonant story about love, fate, and the unpredictable paths that lead us to the people we are meant to be with. Caitlin Moss blends charm, heartache, and a touch of magic to create a romance that feels both timeless and true to life. For readers who enjoy slow-burn love stories with missed chances, deep emotional arcs, and a hint of destiny, this novel is sure to leave a lasting impression.
This is not your typical second-chance romance. With eight opportunities lost and the ninth being the best, it's the right person but the wrong time. The invisible string theory is demonstrated in this book, along with the idea that people who were meant to be together will eventually reunite. Let me caution you, though: even though Jules and JP have incredible chemistry, every opportunity lost will make you feel more and more heartbroken. Ensure that you have tissues on hand!
