What a fun idea! Thank you to netgalley and We Are Bookish for making this great month long activity! Brings me back to the fun library summer searches! This is a well thought out and fun experience.
I’ve never done anything like this, so I’m excited to connect with more bookish creators! I think bingo will be fun, and I’ll have to think about which review to submit for the talent show!
Truly enjoyed the Welcome Packet! It feels so much like going to summer camp with all the great illustrations! Everything is explained so well and makes you so excited to join Camp NetGalley!
This seems like a really fun thing to do here on NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley looking forward to it.
I love the idea of Camp Netgalley! It reminds me of the library challenges I used to do every summer as a kid which I adored. I'm excited about the bingo and scavenger hunt, who doesn't love a bookish-themed interactive game? I think having a few different badges would be cool too, instead of just one for the whole of the camp. Themed badges or ones for individual activities could be cool. Let the summer of reading commence!
TALENT SHOW ENTRY; Review for "The Universe in Verse" by Maria Popova
Maria Popova's "The Universe In Verse" is a luminous anthology that beautifully interlaces the realms of science, poetry, and art. This book is a testament to the profound interconnectedness of these disciplines, each essay and poem reflecting the wonder of the universe and our place within it.
Poetry and science are instruments for knowing the world more intimately and loving it more deeply. This sentiment sets the tone for the entire collection, which consists of 15 short essays exploring a diverse array of scientific topics. From the enigmatic allure of dark matter and the infinite nature of pi to the remarkable resilience of fauna and the extraordinary intelligence of octopuses, each essay delves into the mysteries of our world with curiosity and reverence.
What makes "The Universe In Verse" truly exceptional is Popova's focus on the human stories behind scientific discoveries. Many of the scientists featured are women who have historically been underrecognized for their contributions. Their narratives are woven seamlessly with the broader themes of the essays, providing a deeply personal and poignant perspective on scientific exploration.
Each essay is thoughtfully paired with a poem that echoes its subject, penned by renowned poets such as Emily Dickinson, W. H. Auden, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Maya Angelou, Diane Ackerman, and Tracy K. Smith. Like a good wine and cheese, this pairing creates a rich dialogue between the analytical and the lyrical, enhancing the reader's appreciation of both the science and the poetry.
The illustrations by celebrated artist Ofra Amit are nothing short of stunning. Rendered in limited or monochrome palettes of reds and blues, they complement the text with a subtle elegance, adding an extra layer of beauty to the reading experience. The visuals are not merely decorative but are integral to the book's ability to evoke a sense of wonder and awe.
"The Universe In Verse" is a love letter to all the things that matter—science, art, poetry, and the human spirit. It is a lyrical melding of disciplines that awakens the reader to a reality aglow with wonder. The collection is a beautiful, wonderful, somber, and hopeful thing all at once, capturing the complexity and richness of our universe and the ongoing quest to understand it.
This anthology is more than just a book; it is an experience that leaves the reader feeling enlightened and inspired. Maria Popova has masterfully curated a work that not only informs but also moves the soul, making "The Universe In Verse" an essential read for anyone who cherishes the beauty of knowledge and the poetry of existence.
Looking forward to being a part of “The Camp!” Love #NetGalley and can’t wait to see what this is all about!! 👍🏼😊📖

I’m excited for Camp NetGalley! In the links I’ve attached a review I’m proud of. Let’s get this camp party started!
I love the idea of a NetGalley summer camp, and I'm always down for a BINGO sheet. I think having a variety of new badges would be fun for future events.
This looks like such a fun way to jump-start my summer reading! I love reading challenges and bingo boards, so this events sounds right up my alley. I also love the opportunity to earn new Netgalley badges. I also think this will be a great way to find new friends online who are participating in the weekly challenges.
This looks like bookish fun. Haven't done anything like this before. I do like a challenge especially if it's bookish. Lots of things to do at the camp. The book bingo is going to be the biggest challenge for me.
Thank you to NetGalley & We Are Bookish for this fun addition to my summer reading plans.
I've got a busy summer planned (moving!) but always make sure I have plenty of time set aside for reading.
The format is fun! And really...anytime badges are mentioned we get excited!
I was excited to learn about this Camp activity for the summer. I've received some other Net Galley books, like the reading journal, but this is much more interactive. I really like that there is a movement towards community and reading others' reviews of books that they are proud of. This is a great way to engage other people with reading and share the love of reading. I'm looking forward to engaging in some of these activities as well as seeing how others work on NetGalley and review books.
This is such a cute idea! I have already posted a this-or-that on my instagram story (and tagged NetGalley), but I love a good bingo board. This theme matches my local library’s summer reading program. I have no suggestions at this time. I love that the graphics are made for many different social media postings.
I am excited to see what all this program will entail as we move forward, but I love the concept! Hopefully this will help others to engage with leaving reviews and reading a ton of new books.
Sounds like an interesting idea. This seems fairly easy to understand and follow.
Thanks for this chance.
I enjoy the Bookish program already and this is just a plus.
Love this idea, excited for the bingo card. This would probably be better to integrate further I to the app to make it easier to follow along and check things off in the app
This is such a fun challenge! Thank you NetGalley for providing this summer activity.
The Welcome Pack contains bingo boards and weekly activities for an extra bookish summer. I look forward to discovering the revamped Book Advocate Toolkit later this month.
