This was such a fun idea, I loved the added engagement in the Netgalley community. I loved that there was a new things each week to participate in!! I don't think I would change a thing, but I would have loved to see more participation. I hope it continues to grow.

I loved the idea of Camp Netgalley. I have been in a bit of a reading slump, but the bingo and scavenger hunt have re-invigorated me and got me back into reading and reviewing.

My favourite part was the scavenger hunt - lots of fun!

I am excited for this! I think this is a fun challenge and something fun to post on our socials. I found that I had to reformat some of the templates to fit an instagram post but that is the only issue I have had. Otherwise I love the look of the templates and seems like it will be fun!

After doing some of the activities I found this really fun for creators! It gives some content ideas and makes for a great way to interact with others.

Thanks NetGalley for organising this! My favourite activity was the bingo sheet, but maybe there could be genre-specific bingos? Looking forward to Camp NetGalley next year! <3

Title: Starfish

Author: Lisa Fipps

Summary:

Ellie has rules for being a fat girl, the only thing that will help her survive. Most people in her life body shame her, except for her father and her best friend, who is moving away. Ellie’s mother is the worst bully of all, she posts articles about diets and bariatric surgery. Ellie has three main enemies at school, each of whom take every chance to put her down. When Ellie starts a friendship with new neighbor, Catalina, and she begins going to a therapist, she starts to find her true worth and begins standing up for herself.

Review:

This author gets it. While the events in this book seem outlandish, they are truths that I have also experienced. I loved Ellie’s journey and the growth mixed with reality. This book makes me want to give a hug to Ellie and it reading it felt like receiving a hug. Sure there could have been more development within the side characters and more added to plot trajectory, but overall Ellie captivated me and pushed this book into awesome territory.

Sounds fun although I don't really know if I'll participate or not. I thought there would be much more interractions between people, kinda like a book club, or challenges (appart from the bingo card).

Maybe it would be a nice thing to extend the challenge over several months instead of just one, it would let us have more time to participate.

It is such a fun and creative event by NetGalley! The concept and idea are neat and allow everyone to complete tasks at their own pace! However, I wish it was more collaborative with other readers, like being in group chats with the camp counselors on Instagram and explaining better how we can participate using the bingo board. I also don't use online digital journals because I'm a handwritten type of gal, so offering surveys and other ways to be involved would be great. The Instagram stories were fun to participate in, but instructions and interactions didn't seem clear, and I wish Netgalley on socials interacted more with users. I was excited to join and participate in this, but I hope for a better structure for future events like this. Overall, it is a unique idea!

A fun idea I thought about is doing book giveaways or activities to compete with one another nicely (making it feel like a real camp)! This idea could be fun and engaging, getting more people to participate and feel like they get recognition or a camp feel when involved. More explicit posts on Instagram and Instagram stories of how to participate would also be helpful!

I know people could join the process at any point, but setting a time frame at the beginning for when to join could be awesome as well. It would be like a real formed group of however many people want to take part, not just last minute (almost like a real camp)!

Last, another fun idea would be to host a live Instagram, TikTok, or Zoom call where everyone could bring a snack or drink and go around and share things about themselves at the beginning of the event, and maybe one at the end as well!

Overall, I enjoyed this experience and look forward to participating in another in the future!

Fun activities! I'm really proud of my review of Phantom Limb and will be submitting it XD Next year, it could be useful to add as an interactive game in the app.

Camp NetGalley is a fun packet full of weekly activities for the month of July. I liked the Bingo activity but wasn't sure if it was something to submit once you hit a bingo, or just posting for fun on social media. I think for next year it would be cool if there were prizes associated with completing bingo or different activities.

I think the "Talent Show" activity is a cool idea, but could use some clarification. From reading other reviews and feedback, some people are saying the review has to be from July, but I thought it could be from any time. Some are putting the link directly in the feedback and some are putting it in the links sections - maybe having this as an activity separate from the Camp Netgalley packet feedback would help.

It's the first time I've heard there was an event like this on Netgalley. I definitely loved all the packs it came with, but my favorite was for sure the Book Advocate Toolkit it was something that I never thought I would need it but now I'll read it and reread it every chance I get.
I'll be submitting the review that gave me my first orange pencil and the one which is the most dear to me which is my review of The Gilded Cage by Lynette Noni.

This was a small 9 page packet of fun for NetGalley reviewers, but was very under marketed as I got it on the 30th of July.
I am adding the review for The Wolf of Mayfair by Caldwell Christi as it was one of my favorite ARCs I got from NetGalley.

First time camper here!! I really enjoyed this! Camp NetGalley came with its own welcome packet with an explanation of what to expect and when, and how to be involved. I was a little confused on the bingo game- were we submitting this somewhere? Or were we just posting it on our social media sites?

I was excited and encouraged to engage more with every #campnetgalley tag I saw!! I still don’t think I did it all correctly, but I’ll try again next year!

Submitting my review of Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston for the Camp NetGalley Talent Show as it’s one of my favourite reads in of the last two months!

I received an ARC of this welcome packet from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a lot of fun!

I had so much fun with Camp NetGalley. My favorite was the Bingo board. It was easy to use and pushed me outside my normal summer reading list. I chose The Silent Woods as my “Cover Set Outdoors.” This book was outside my typical genre and I loved it. So far it’s my favorite book of the summer. I did many of the other squares and had fun comparing with friends also on NetGalley.

I didn’t love the stickers activity. It was hard to do on my phone. I also didn’t think it wasn’t as interactive as the scavenger hunt or Bingo board.

Camp NetGalley was a fun activity to participate in for the month of July. I would have liked to see it hyped up a little more, though, since it didn’t come to my attention until the second week of the month. It was a short PDF, only 9 pages, with easy to follow instructions for all of the activities. There were different activities for each week of the month, and then an overall activity for the month.

Week one was devoted to bingo, which is one of my favorite kind of activities to participate in, so I was especially upset to have missed this first week. The bingo prompts were fun and the kind that motivate me to make progress in my NetGalley backlog, prompts like: review the oldest book on your shelf, let a friend pick what you’ll read, and a summer favorite, read outside! A reading journal and exclusive stickers are provided, which gave me that nostalgic rush of book club reading from elementary school. There were daily prompts on social media for a scavenger hunt one week, and another was focused on downloading and using the updated Book Advocate Toolkit. It offers a start to finish guide for using NetGalley, from setting up your account to maintaining a good ratio and writing reviews, and everything in between.

Finally, the “talent show” allows us to offer feedback on this guide/activity, and link one of our best reviews from July into the feedback. I really liked some of the activities, and would have liked if these were hyped up a little more. There wasn’t a lot of chatter that I came across on social media, and I didn’t really remember to check for prompts in the scavenger hunt on a regular basis. However, I think if more people were aware of this, it would be easier and more fun to participate in. Hopefully next year this will be mentioned more widely in the month or two leading up to it, to inspire even more participation. The bingo and scavenger hunt are activities that I think are super fun and would definitely want to do again next year, although the other two weeks had less structured activities, which are less appealing to me. I tend to enjoy activities that are more structured, so hopefully there will be more activities to choose from during the month. But overall, this was a fantastic event, and I’m thrilled to have been able to participate. Finally, a social forum where participants can interact directly can make things even more interesting, offering a chance to make this feel like more of a friendly competition than an isolated activity.

This is a well thought out reading adventure for the summer. It was easy to download all the information I'll need to participate in the fun. Let the stories... and bingo... begin!!
~~~
After a month of participating, it's been fun, but harder to do after a long day at work than I thought it would be. I seemed to end up completing the missions in one lump on the weekends when I had more time to scavenge what was posted instead of trying to complete them each day. I'm not sure if that is how it was intended, but it's the only way it worked for me. The bingo and creating my banner board were my favorites. I was hoping for a post to show my banner but haven't seen one as of this review. I'd definitely attend summer camp again in 2025 if it's offered. Thanks for keeping me busy with so many ARC's this summer... and all seasons of the year.
I am really excited to earn the Camp NetGalley badge! I think that's a wonderful incentive for joining this campaign. It was a struggle to follow along with what events were going on since the instructions were spread across the posts, infographics, etc. So I mostly joined in by following NetGalley's instagram stories. The social media events were my favorite to join in and I loved all of the provided graphics.
It would be fun next year to have a book for each bunk to read. Or an exclusive ARC offered as Read Now to camp participants. It would be great for networking to submit posts to be highlighted on instagram (like real camp talent shows/competitions). Also, weekly prompts so we could then post book reviews/make recommendations that matched the theme.
Thank you to the team at We Are Bookish and NetGalley for arranging this!
This was such a fun and creative way to engage the community! Sometimes NetGalley can be a little daunting or feel almost like a chore (especially if I'm too far behind in my reviews) - but this series of activities gave a fun and refreshing angle to being a book reviewer and participating in the community as a whole.
I loved the idea of the bingo board! I'm a sucker for book bingos, so this was my type of activity. I also really appreciated the welcome packet that outlined all the different ways to engage throughout the month - downloading it made it easy to follow along and decide on what activities I could participate in.
The link to the review I'm including is one of my favorite posts of mine on IG currently. I love the way that the photo turned out - but more importantly, I loved the book and really feel like I captured the essence of my excitement in the review post.
