This is a book I think I will come back to again and again throughout my life. I also think it would be a great book to gift to others when the timing is apt. Our dominant culture has a very different message around death and because of this, you can easily lose sight of what this book's message just existing in the day-to-day. There's a lot packed into this book, in a good way. The book is a guide to dying well but also living well. For this reason, I sense I will re-read this book every few years to stay connected to its message and as a guide through this lifelong process.
Thank you NetGalley and Rowman & Littlefield for the advanced copy of this book! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I have read a lot of books like this thanks to my interest in hospice care. It started off really good, and it IS very informative, I just found that it was rather repetitive and there was a little too much reference to others' works. Still, it gave me some to add to my reading list!
Having recently lost my own parents, I was interested in this topic, but I was also a little leery about what it might address that I hadn't already considered. However, I was quite surprised to find myself uplifted by the content and it helped me solidify my own feelings and how I'd like to lead the rest of my life. It's well done and an important addition to the genre. It provides plenty of food for thought in both practical and philosophical ways. Ideally, the government would provide a copy to everyone upon turning sixty.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. I hope it is read widely.
