As a healthcare worker who worked the frontlines during Covid, I loved this book.

The information was accurate, the stories seemed like they actually happened, and it was just like I was re-living the bad Covid days. The author must have done some serious research when writing this book, and it shows.

The only complaint that I have is that the book seems to jump around a lot, so it can be difficult to follow at times, but other than that, I would recommend this book to anyone! I really did enjoy the writing style!

Sandra Lindsay's memoir, First in Line is a brave comprehensive memoir written by the first person in the US to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Ms. Lindsay shares the story of her upbringing in Jamaica and immigration to the United States as a young adult. She bravely shares details about her challenges as an immigrant and young, single mom trying to make ends meet in New York City in the late 1980's early 1990's and the major life transition that occured when she became a nursing aid. The book also covers her experience progressing to a senior nursing manager and then a key healthcare leader on the front lines of the COVID pandemic. With candor and honesty, Ms. Lindsay discusses the horrific perils of racism and implicit bias in healthcare talking about her own personal challenges.

I highly recommend this book. Ms. Lindsay shares many brilliant insights from extensive research as well as her own experiences. The book has a non-linear timeline and sometimes jumps from topic to topic and situation to situation. Overall the book is very readable and accessible. However, parts of the book were a little difficult to follow due to the complex timeline and sheer number of topics covered.

Thank you to NetGalley and Post HIll Press for an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I truly wanted to enjoy this book because I was also on the front lines as an ER nurse and can appreciate the informative aspects of this book as well as the first hand accounts I can attest were very accurate. My only issue with this book was the editing. Perhaps this is not in its final stages, but the flow was not easy to read or connect to. Such an amazing story though.
