Really surprised at this story. When I began I wasn't certain I'd enjoy it due to the references to sci-fi and how it played a huge part in the storyline. That said I began to gain empathy with the main characters, the relationships they had and the way the narrative flowed. it was a very easy read in the end.

Loved the main character (Dryden) and his relationship with the young Rachel, it developed nicely throughout and never felt forced. There were times when you weren't quite sure how it would go, would they see the book out together or not - enjoyed the uncertainty.

Highlight for me was how Patrick lee tied everything up, using certain abilities and a clever out. Very good writing and likeable characters - some of them at least!
