4 stars book from me. Loved the plot and the storytelling in Maybe Next Christmas and relatable, likable characters,. Loved every single second reading it.
Bea is at Heathrow waiting for a delayed plane back to her hometown in Ireland for Christmas. It is there she meets Ollie who is also waiting for the same plane. Although they make a connection they don’t swap numbers. But over the next year fate intervenes.
I felt that I needed a romantic, uplifting story to break up all the dark novels I’ve read recently and there’s nothing better than one set at Christmas. I also liked the cover. This was a beautiful, warm novel full of heartwarming moments. I enjoyed most of the characters and think they came across well, although sometimes I wanted Bea to see sense. I also liked that it was told in both voices of the main characters so that we could understand both perspectives.
I found parts of the story very compelling, however it took me a while to get into other parts. Saying that, there were emotional scenes that evoked a lot of different responses, which needed time to be built up. This is perfect for those wanting a cosy, festive romance to read on a cold night. 3.5 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
Bea and Ollie meet in London and this is their story. Maybe next christmas is a beautiful, heartfelt christmas story that will draw you in and make it impossible for you to put down. This book gets you right in the feels.
This was a gorgeous hug of a book, so heartwarming and romantic and it definitely warmed my heart.
Maybe Next Christmas is so warm and cosy and festive and it is the most perfect Christmas read.
It was such an easy book to read and i actually read it all in a couple of sittings. From the moment i started reading it, it pulled me in and didn’t let me go until i had very quickly devoured it all.
The characters were all wonderful, well-rounded characters with even a couple of doggies thrown in for good measure!
Maybe Next Christmas was a wonderful, beautiful, sweet, Christmassy story and it left me with a very happy heart…..
I loved this book - heartwarming and really well written, it drew me in an was a great read - perfect for a dreary winter's day.
I think this book would make a totally fabulous festive film. I could see it all so clearly, and it certainly gave me all the feels.
Set between London and Ireland, with an initial first meeting at Heathrow airport with a flight delay on Christmas Eve, this was just one fabulous book.
I loved getting to know Bea, and the hotel she works in that sounded divine, as well as Ollie and especially his Aunt Nora.
Both are travelling back to Ireland for Christmas for the first time in years, hoping to make this a memorable Christmas.
And although they don't exchange details, fate clearly has plans for our leading pair, and I loved it even more each time they met.
It's a moving festive romance, that is another in a growing number of fabulous books from Emma Heatherington. She is definitely one of my auto read authors for a fab Christmas book.
Thank you to Penguin and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Another amazing Christmas novel by Emma Heatherington! A lovely heartwarming journey of love, heartbreak, grief & all things Christmas! An absolute must read!
With thanks to #NetGalley #MaybeNextChristmas
This was such a cute and heartwarming story! I loved the characters and how their stories, lives, and fates are intertwined. Bea and Ollie are adorable, and so are Leroy and Nora. Brilliant book, I loved it and I'll read more books by Emma Heatherington, that's for sure.
Thank you to the publisher who provided me with an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Two strangers, Bea and Ollie meet in London at the airport. The plane has been delayed, and they share a table at the pub, There is such a connection there, and they have lots to talk about. Finally, they are able to board the plane and find they are on the same plane. Once they are in Ireland, they go their separate ways. Ollie especially keeps kicking himself for not asking for her number, and they don't know each others name or where exactly they work.
When they leave Ireland and head back home, their lives go back to the way it was, but another chance encounter happens, and they find themselves in a different place this time. The connection is still there, and then it begins a journey of what if anything will happen. It is a difficult journey, because of the distance. They get together as much as possible, but will they figure out how to make this relationship work, and be together, instead of apart. The journey made a fun, enjoyable read, that is a reminder that sometimes life or fate, will try to make something happen, which always makes life interesting.
I received an ARC from Penguin through NetGalley.
This is a sweet, heartwarming story full of Christmas cheer, friendships and, of course, romance romance. Bea works in London in a hotel and is going home to Ireland for Christmas when her plane is delayed. She happens to meet Ollie a nurse who is also waiting for his flight, the same one, home. They get talking and hit it off but once the plane lands they go their own ways. However, this is a story of chance encounters and over the course of the year, they do meet again. New friends are found, relationships altered, and their lives continue, as does this story.
I really liked the characters in this story, Bea is lovely and Ollie is so kind, I was rooting for these two from the beginning. Their friends and colleagues help to weave the story together to create this easy Christmas read.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable romance. It is the sort of story that you will want to curl up in front of the fire with and enjoy.

Roll on 2025 for a new Christmas book from Emma; I enjoyed this one sooo much and I couldn't put it down.
Bea and Ollie meet by chance on Christmas Eve, whilst they are waiting in a packed airport for a delayed flight to their families in Ireland. They share a table in the local pub (bet that was Spoons) and have a meal. Bea is writing notes in her journal, having taken a short break from the job she loves at the Carnation Hotel in London. Ollie is a cardiac nurse and is going home to see his poorly father for what may be the last time.
There is an instant attraction "Love at First Sight" perhaps? Bea is finding her long distance romance difficult and is thinking about what her future holds too..
Thus follows a truly delightful tale of what happens between Bea & Ollie
; will they get their Happy Ever After?
A delicious Christmas Cosy Tale, I recommend you read with hot chocolate, a mulled wine of whatever takes your fancy, but you'll not be disappointed - Enjoy!
An absolutely magical read that should not be reserved for Christmas. The writing draws you into the lives of Ollie and Bea in such a way, it’s hard to want to leave. The settings are so perfect and somewhere I would love to visit. Heart warming, emotional, romantic, it’s a perfect read. I absolutely loved this book and found it very difficult to put down.
Thank you Netgalley
Such a heartwarming easy read.
Bea meets Ollie at a bar in Heathrow airport on Christmas Eve, their plane back home to Ireland is delayed so they strike up a conversation. The connection between them is clear, their reasons for going home are difficult for both of them, both their stories are not easy for them to deal with.
They go their separate ways but a chance encounter in Kensington Gardens when Ollie runs into Bea’s dog brings the pair together again. The story then goes through their lives leading up to the next Christmas.
Some of the side characters are ones that really stick with you, for me I loved Leroy, he wasn’t afraid to speak his truth to Bea, I’m a wonderfully respectful way.
Thank you NetGalley, Emma Heatherington and Random House, Cornerstone for providing me with a copy to read, all opinions expressed are my own.
If ever a book called for a comfy seat, a large hot drink and an afternoon to loose to a good Christmas book this is absolutely it. Our heroine Bea meets a handsome man called Ollie when she is going home to Ireland for Christmas and sparks fly but there is a problem - she is going home to her boyfriend Sean. This book explores the relationship between Bea and Ollie and is set over Christmas - the most wonderful time of the year!
This is such a lovely book. It is romantic without being over sugary. It deals with grief and loss in a gentle way. Bea meets Ollie whilst waiting at Heathrow airport. They spend a long time chatting realising how much they have in common.....but neither of them thinks of taking the other's phone number. It seems they might never meet again. Circumstances lead to another meeting some while later.
The descriptions of the people involved are thoughtful and heartfelt. Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to review this book. I enjoyed reading it.
Great Christmas story a story of heartbreak and fixing the heart, what a story so uplifting and made me cry a few time and wanted to shout out Bea open your eyes and your heart. So pleased how the story finished
“Maybe Next Christmas” by Emma Heatherington is such a heart warming and delightful read. After a chance meeting at Heathrow Airport on Christmas Eve and hours spent talking, Ollie and Bea quickly form a connection that neither can forget for months after. When they forget to exchange numbers, Ollie and Bea never expected to meet again, until a series of events (call it fate) brings them together again many months later. Life can get complicated though, and sometimes, even the truest of relationships can struggle because of it; but can Ollie and Bea romance thrive despite it all?
.
With the festive scenes of London and Ireland, a lovable cast of characters that will make you laugh and cry, and so much compassion, “Maybe Next Christmas” is a magical read with all the charm and warmth you would look for in a book. As always, Emma Heatherington delivers a story that will stick with you for a while and make you desperate to escape to the beautiful hills of Ireland.
Do you believe in destiny?
This was such a lovely, heartwarming read and it had me totally emotionally invested in the characters from their very first encounter. Both Bea and Ollie meet when their flight is delayed as they head back home to Ireland from London for Christmas. There is instant chemistry. They even sit next to each other on the plane, yet they don't exchange numbers.
I will admit to holding my breath till their paths crossed again.
The two main characters are really likeable, as are the secondary characters such as Leroy and Aunt Nora.
What I really liked about this book was that it wasn't all rainbows and unicorns. There were issues that were real, such as being in a long distance relationship and the theme of grief. Also, the picturesque Irish towns and villages mentioned are all real which has made me want to visit Ireland.
This was an absolutely brilliant read which had me hooked from the beginning to the end. I loved following Bea and Allie's story which made for a fascinating read.
