Bea and Ollie meet at the airport both are going back home to Ireland for the Christmas holidays, Bea to see her long term partner and split up with him and Ollie to see his father who has stage 4 cancer and this will be his last Christmas. The plane is delayed and when they start chatting they can`t stop as the sparks start to fly, unfortunately they forgot to exchange numbers but think about each other every day, will fate bring them together again?
An enjoyable read though you do want to give Bea a big shove to get a move on.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC and I give my honest review.
This book was such a good heartwarming book to read and made me have so many emotions. This is for all the readers who love a feel good Christmas movie.
The characters of Bea and Ollie were honestly so good. Both characters have so many ups and downs that they are going through and they seem to find solace with each other by just talking while in an airport. You can immediately feel the connection between them from the get go and can feel the chemistry. This book will definitely tuck on those heartstrings and fill you with so many emotions. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this arc before it comes out.
Just finished this lovely festive read, and I have to say, it’s got all the ingredients for a perfect Christmas story!
It's Christmas Eve, and Bea is stuck at Heathrow, waiting for her flight home to Ireland. She’s got a big decision hanging over her, she meets Ollie at the bar he’s also heading home to Ireland for what will be a bittersweet Christmas. An instant connection forms between them, but here’s the twist they don’t exchange numbers instead they leave it up to fate to decide whether they’ll meet again.
The story goes on to follow Bea and Ollie through the next year, as they navigate their individual lives, leading up to the next Christmas, and oh my goodness, the emotional ups and downs! There’s a wonderful cast of characters Bea and Ollie along with Leroy and Aunt Nora, to name a few, each one adding their own charm to the story. The vivid descriptions of Oyster Cottage and its idyllic setting make you want to book a cosy festive retreat there.
If you’re looking for a heart-warming story to get you in the Christmas spirit, this is it. It’s an easy read, full of moments that’ll make you smile, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself getting a bit teary-eyed too. This book definitely pulls at the heartstrings, but in the best possible way.
Grab a hot chocolate, curl up by the fire, and enjoy the journey!

Firstly, thank you so much for letting me read Maybe next christmas.
This book was so beautifully written, I recommend the winter happy feels it gives me. Makes me believe in love at first sight and happy endings.
When both bea and ollie have flights from London to Ireland for christmas, but their flights are delayed, they end up chatting and feel that spark right away, they only are sitting on the same row too. Fate keeps making an appearance many times
Firstly I would like to thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for my free ARC.
Plunged into a sparkling Christmas Eve, the story begins as two young professionals make their way to the airport to fly home for Christmas. Bea and Ollie have a serendipitous meeting in a cramped pub, waiting for their flights, and strike up a conversation that ends up lasting for the entire flight. Frustratingly they don’t exchange numbers or surnames and any desire to meet again seems lost. However, the universe has other plans.
Both with demanding family work situations, romance for themselves is something only in their family’s minds. Yet somehow, it’s destined to be. And both Bea and Ollie are likeable characters: Ollie an NHS nurse, and Bea a London hotel front of house manager, both just trying to do their best for everyone, so the reader wants the best for them. A chance second meeting surprises them both and it’s only when they discover they have a mutual acquaintance that they both have a fondness for that they decide to find out what destiny is pushing them towards. For Ollie and Bea romance has had a rocky past, and with home being so far away in Ireland, when one of them makes the move home and leaves the other in London that past looks sure to repeat itself. But will Bea get past her own barriers and let love in? Can Will see past the ghosts of what used to be?
Rich with endearing and colourful characters, and beautiful landmarks and places, this is a wonderful heartwarming story not just for the Christmas season, but evocative of that cosiness best experienced with a blanket and log fire. My favourite things.
I highly recommend Maybe next Christmas by Emma Heatherington.
Emma is a new author for me. I loved the book and Emma’s style of writing. I have been to Donegal and it’s a great county to visit, stunning beaches and villages so to find it in a book was interesting. Loved all the characters, why wouldn’t you. From the way Ollie and Bea met and their journey, just had me captivated,I was hooked from the first chapter and didn’t want to put it down. Ollie was so nice, you just wanted him to get his happy ending. Bea was torn between her career and her personal life. All in all a great book with perfect characters. Would have loved a follow up.
This is a perfect, feel-good, cosy up with the fire and Christmas tree lit behind you kind of book. Perfect Christmas read, simple and easy! This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
3.5/5.
This cosy holiday romance follows Bea and Ollie, who meet as strangers at Heathrow on Christmas Eve and share a brief but unforgettable connection. After parting ways, fate brings them back together months later, setting off a series of unexpected events that could turn their fleeting encounter into something lasting. With the magic of Christmas in the air, this sweet story is all about second chances and the surprises love can bring. Perfect for curling up with during the holiday season!
This was such a lovely story. I was rooting for a happy ending the moment the two main characters met. Every character in this story was likeable and even though I read this book in early August it gave me a Christmassy feel good vibe.

Beatrice, a hotel manager and Ollie, a cardiac nurse, meet on a delayed Christmas Eve flight from Heathrow to Derry, Northern Ireland, where they are from. They don't swap numbers but manage to find each other again shortly afterwards. Some misunderstandings get in the way but thankfully not for very long. Now the biggest problem seems to be the long-distance part of their relationship, as Ollie has just moved back to his hometown after the death of his Dad but Beatrice loves her life in London.
I applaud the attempt to make the story wintery but I have lived in London for over twenty years - we do not get winter storms. We're lucky to get one snow day in February! Does anyone honestly think that in an actual snow storm planes would take off? No, they would be grounded because London comes to a standstill with the first flakes. London doesn't DO snow, it's always the wrong kind. Then, apparently, Kensington got "another week of snow and hailstones" in January. Made me laugh in disbelief.
The book could have profited from tighter editing. The Royal Elizabeth Hospital is in Glasgow not London, most airlines don't have a row 13, and Ollie tells Bea the same story about a Christmas box tradition twice within a few pages.
The story reads well though, and the quirky supporting characters like Leroy and Aunt Nora, who treats Bea's life like a soap opera she needs updates on, are a lot of fun. Someone should have really told Sean though that public proposals are THE. WORST. This is an easy, festive read, if you don't mind that it's the FMC who changes her dreams at the end. The settings are lovely, and I like dogs in a book.
3.75 stars
3.5 rounded up.
Ollie & Bea meet at the airport on Christmas eve, the flight is delayed so they strike up a conversation and spark(le)s fly.
This festive romcom will warm your heart and had me crying a few times. The relationship between Ollie & his dad was beautiful. This will definitely be a cosy winter read for many.
The only thing that made me give it a 3.5 is that Bea didn't really resonate with me at all. I just didn't click with her character at all.
What a joyful easy read, lovely characters, beautiful setting, really enjoyed it and look forward to more from this author
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It has a great feel good factor, characters that I would love to meet and a great story set in Ireland. Recommended.
A cute, festive read. Perfect for the cold winter months. I loved that there were no major dramas that dragged on and on.
What a gorgeous book! This novel is full of all that I adore about life and humanity - warmth, compassion, friendship, family and - of course- love. It centres around Bea and Ollie and how their very separate lives collide one Christmas Eve as they both return home to their families for important Christmas visits. Of course, life is complicated and often difficult to navigate and therein lies the story...
These two main characters are beautifully portrayed and I loved them but I loved them even more for the collection of wonderful characters that surround them. Some how, to be loved by such wonderful people show them to be really something special. After reading this book, I want dinner with Leroy, I want to chat with Aunt Nora, watch Sita, go out with Patsi and see a picture of Jacques: I love them all! I also want to book a trip to Ireland for Christmas and Summer! Emma Heatherington should have commission from the tourist board.
This is a simply adorable book - snuggle up and enjoy!
Thoroughly enjoyed this story and the will they, won't they running through it. This story was full of love and sadness.
While waiting at buzzing Heathrow airport for their flights home to Ireland for Christmas, Bea and Ollie begin chatting. When their flights are delayed, they strike up an immediate connection, and promise to meet again the following year.
The story is mainly told from both Bea and Ollie’s viewpoint, giving a more rounded picture. Both have special reasons for their visit home, which are sensitively described. They are warm, friendly personalities, and all the characters are so well drawn that you feel you know them. Ollie’s dad, Aunt Nora and Leroy are particular favourites, with their great outlook on life.
You get a real sense of small Irish communities celebrating the festive season, with lots of laughter and humour. Descriptions of the beautiful Irish scenery and rugged seashore bring it alive, and you wish you were there. There is also heartbreak and sadness, and you feel empathy with the characters and the decisions they have to make.
The book has a heartwarming welcoming feel, full of engaging characters, which is a joy to read.
I loved it, so festive and poignant. I loved the premise that f this, the romance, the scenery and the poignancy of how they meet and keep meeting. This will be the best Netflix film and I look
Forward to snuggling and watching this. Perfect for Christmas romance readers. Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review.
A great festive read. Full of will they, won't they and chasing rainbows. Loved reading the ARC for this as can't beat a bit of Christmas in July.
Thank you Emma Heatherington, Random House UK and Netgalley.
Read in one day. Easy, loveable read. Good story. Lovely to read about ireland. Wish Oster cottage was real.
