Fantastic end to a fabulous slasher trilogy. While I enjoyed book 2 I was glad to see Jade back as the main POV character. This was a fast and furious ride through the slasher genre from beginning to end and Stephen Graham Jones definitely stuck the ending. Full marks.
Having adored the first two instalments in the series I was keen to see how things ended, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It nailed the landing and I was so afraid it would just fade to a close. SGJ really stuck his foot on the accelerator in book 2, and he didn't let up in this one. With Jade back as our main POV we see her future mapped out before her, now a teacher at the school, but still getting into trouble, into danger, and still the slasher pro everyone turns to. This one is full of twists and turns as we work out what is going on and who is responsible. I might go so far as to suggest it is TOO twisty; maybe just one fewer reveal would have made it feel a little tighter, a little more intentional. But I'm not complaining. This was a lot of fun, and a cracking place to leave our favourite characters. I'm sure this is one I'll revisit; the whole series is a fun ride, and the audiobook of this final instalment was a great time. Highly recommend.
Stephen Graham Jones continues to be an auto-buy author for me!
Synopsis (don't read unless you've read book's one and two!) and if you have you know what it's about.
My thoughts:
- Wonderful to spend more time in Proofrock again with one of my fave character's Jade Daniels.
- This packs a punch and more in SGJ true literary horror style
- Took me a wee bit to get back into it, I need a recap!, but when I did I was back into that world and watching everything unfold.
- I listened to this on audio and highly recommend, I really enjoyed the narration.
- Great last book in a trilogy, sad it's ended!
I read the book and listened to this audiobook and was in love with the experience and how the characters were lively and real. It made me feel the fear and the excitement this author makes me feel in the books.
The plot, the characters are as good as usual and I felt sad in saying good bye. It was a great final to a great series.
As for the audio: a good narrator, excellent book.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
The last of the Indian Lake Trilogy and what a finish to this excellent series. Jade's back after four years in prison but so is Dark Mill South escaped serial killer. Plenty of action and scares along the way. To top it all there's a bunch of narrator's including Stephen Graham Jones and a certain Mr King. This trilogy is a must for any horror fan. Thanks to W. F.
