This was so cute! I've read Julietta Suzuki's most popular work, Kamisama Kiss, before, so I was excited to know she was working on a new paranormal-inspired shoujo manga. The artwork is beautiful, and so far the premise is really lighthearted, which is funny since there were multiple instances where I thought things would get violent in this volume. I'm enjoying the premise so far and look forward to continuing this series.

4.5/5

Vampire + Otaku = Hina. A vampire who won’t bite from humans, but has become the ultimate stan of an anime character. Hina finally convinces her father to let her live in Japan, only to find out her neighbour looks exactly like her favourite anime character, Mao!

Adorable. Love the premise. Hina is so cute. I love that Kyuta has the typical vampire story trope of extra sweet smelling blood, making him irresistible to vampires (Bella Swan, much?) but it makes for a cute relationship between Hina and Kyuta.

I’m a little confused about Hina’s name. Perhaps it’s just a moniker, since she’s supposed to be from Romania? Hopefully this will be explained later.

I’m super down to continue reading this series. I can’t wait, especially with that juicy cliffhanger.

I am not a manga reader, usually, but I make occasional exceptions. I was drawn to this one because of the vampire main character. I love a good vampire story. It was a good book, but it did feel brief, which is my usual complaint with manga series. But, I liked the representation of obsessive fan culture and the grumpy/sunshine dynamic between the two main characters. I think this one might be a good addition to my high school manga collection and will be recommending to my students.

This was quite cute and very fun. I always enjoy seeing a twist on vampires and mangas always do that best. Plus I am a huge Otaku as well so I definitely understand. This was over all really fun and cute.

I personally feel like this book seems to pluck inspiration from a multitude of places. It reminds me a little of Karen, and a little of some other anime I watched long ago that I can’t remember the name of, and yet it’s also uniquely its own story.

A sheltered young vampire moves from Romania to Japan to live an otaku style life. Shortly upon moving into her new apartment she meets her neighbor, Kyuta. She gets super excited because he looks almost exactly like her favorite character from Vampire Cross, until he opens his mouth and reveals himself to something of a grump.

For a volume one, this book moves pretty fast. We meet Hina while she’s still in Romania, get the briefest glimpse of who she was before, then it hops over to her moving into her place in Japan and meeting her neighbor. Despite their rough introduction, Kyuta still agrees to go to a Vampire Cross themed café with Hina when he bumps into her after her friend cancels on her last minute. From there he turns into something like her prickly protector, only to have her save him unexpectedly.

Very interesting. It’s a whirlwind series of small adventures with Hina and Kyuta. I don’t know why, but I didn’t expect to meet so many vampires in the first book. The story itself seems to flick back and forth between a cute, silly story about a budding friendship between a human and a vampire, to something a bit more dark and serious…and then back again. The art is on par with Julietta Suzuki’s other series (I’m thinking Kamisama Kiss in particular) and I really enjoy how Suzuki does a dark and stormy cloud panel…or any scenery panel really. They often do a great job helping set the mood for the upcoming scene.

I definitely look forward to seeing what volume 2 brings to the table. Particularly with "Viktor."

All around this was super cute intro to the story and the characters; I can’t wait to see how things turn out and all around love Hina!

A strong start to the manga series! I love a cute vampire series and this one is really sweet and playful. There hasn’t been much angst or drama, just slight vampiric fights here and there, and it focuses a lot more on the main character being an absolute otaku who doesn’t want to talk about anything else. I’ve liked our major characters so far, I’m interested to see how they grow and who else joins the story. I’m very intrigued by the main character’s dad and what her lineage exactly is.

Hina is adorkable, she's a otaku, hopeless and very powerful without knowing it. The daughter of a powerful vampire, Hina moves to Japan to be closer to her favourite hobby - anime, much to the concern of her father. Her neighbour also happens to look the spitting image of her favourite character, and despite being rude, is very kind to her. Hina doesn't know how to function as a normal member of society and is very much a shutin even in Japan but Amanatsu is quick to teach her how to not live in sqawller. He's a sweetheart, and I look forward to discovering his own secret.

Moving from Romania to Japan can be quite the cultural shock- especially for Hina, a Vampire that's only known her room her entire life! However Japan allows her to do the one thing she's always wanted: to live out her Otaku dreams! All she seems to care about is the show Vampire Cross, especially loving her favorite character Mao! After yearning for a friend to share her Otaku dream she runs into her new next door neighbor Kyuta- and he looks EXACTLY like Mao! Although his personality doesn't match, Hina is keen on befriending Kyuta and the two set off on their (Hina's) Otaku dreams!

Opposites attract (kinda) in this first hilarious volume of a story of a girl just trying to live her geeked out dreams. As someone that understands Hina's devotion to her faves, I found this hilarious and the characters easily likeable. Although it felt fast-paced at times, not one situation in the volume felt like it was dragged out. 4.5 rounded up to 5.

Could not be more thrilled to have another work by Julietta Suzuki translated into english! Loved what I read in the first volume. In true to form fashion for Julietta Suzuki- it's cute, it's funny, it's a little spooky, and very sweet with a strong female lead. I cannot wait to see what happens next in volume 2 and will be recommending this series to anyone within earshot.

This was a fun twist on a semi popular premise! This is not the first "immortal being is actually a huge nerd" series I've read, but it has a couple of elements that help it stand out from the crowd. So far, it comes down to the characters and how they interact with one another. Hina's actually quite sociable when it's about something she likes. Her back and forth with her neighbor is cute, too. This is a good start to a cute series! I hope it gets to grow into its own!

This was a cute, yet strange read. So the premise is a vampire that's obsessed with a Japanese vampire show - so they move to Japan to become an otaku? I don't know if this one was for me, as much as I love vampire everything. The story was a little muddy in places and at times I had trouble following.

Hina, a vampire, moves to Japan to live as an otaku and submerse herself in her favourite anime - Vampire Cross. When she discovers that her neighbour looks exactly like her crush, she pulls him into her world - only to discover that there are more vampires in Japan than either of them expected.

This is super cute - Hina is just loveable and Kyuta is cute and grumpy. The art was great. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Published by Viz Media and available October 1, 2024, Vampire Otaku's Love Bite asks the age-old question "What if a vampire was an otaku (someone obsessed with something, generally Japanese media)?" Hina Arukado (Arukado is the Japanese spelling of Alucard), is a Romanian vampire obsessed with a vampire anime who moves to Japan to live her otaku life. Hijinks ensue. This first volume was a cute introduction to what should prove to be a fun series that will appeal to fans of either the weird and the wonderful (the vampires) or the self-referential humor and commentary on that other mysterious recluse (the otakus). The art is cute and expressive and the characters all look unique, so this should please shoujo fans.

This was such a good first volume! I adored the art style and the premise of an otaku vampire who becomes friends with her neighbor and shenanigans ensues. There is so much to unpack about the FMC's reentry into society that's spurred on by being an avid fan of a character to the shift in conventional storylines where the guy is the one all the vampires want to suck dry. I wasn't expecting anything and was happy with where volume 1 left off. Can't wait to read the next!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for the DRC and the opportunity to read this.

5/5 Stars! I LOVED everything about this. I am all for cute, friendly vampires. Hina is wonderful. She is a child (literally) vampire who only drinks from blood bags and is obsessed with all things Vampire Cross. This kawaii otaku befriends grumpy Amanatsu. Hina winds up protecting Amanatsu from his vampire stalker and the two become “friends.” The dynamic between Hina and Amanatsu is charming and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope they get closer as the manga progresses and! I can’t wait to read more! The art in this manga was also super cute. Thank you VIZ Media, Julietta Suzuki, and NetGalley for providing an eARC for review!

This is fun and cute! I really enjoyed getting to know the characters, and also learning about the lore. I did think the main guy was a bit of a jerk, in some ways... but I can also see how that works for the plot. Either way, it will be something I'll add to my recommendations list, especially for teens looking for fun manga!
