An enjoyable and entertaining read, I particularly enjoyed the scenes with Isherwood but the hero of the book for me was Eisenhower’s home in Gettysburg. John Altman set the scene well and brought through the history of the area from Chamberlain’s defence of Little Round Top in the civil war to Eisenhower’s farm buildings – and they are huge!

You know an author’s done his or her job well when you read a book, based loosely on history, and you turn to google to investigate the topic or place. It certainly happened for me and when the book concluded I found myself on google looking at the tall silo with an opening on the top and two magnificent farm houses and stables.

Altman did a fantastic job with the President’s property, capturing the size and atmosphere of the place. The story itself was good and had me on the edge of my seat a couple of times. Very good storytelling, not a huge amount of action but the scene setting for me won the day. Good job.
