Karen Rose returns readers to New Orleans for another deliciously devilish story. That seamlessly blends crime, mystery, intrigue and romance together.
As Cora Wilson is sure someone is breaking into her home and her dad. The man she believed walked out on his family twenty-three years ago has just been identified as the body found in the foundation of a building in Houma.
Where he's been buried for twenty-three years.
Then just as she goes to visit Broussard Investigations and her friend Joy someone attacks shooting Joy and chasing a fleeing Cora through the French Quarter.
And now Burke and his team want answers. Especially PTSD sufferer Phin who witnessed everything that went down after returning to the city and his friends after a previous case he helped on sent him spiralling.
But why would anyone want Cora dead and what is it they believe she knows? After all she was only five when her dad disappeared.
Well, that is what Phin, his support dog SodaPop, friends Stone and Dolores and the Broussard PI team are going to find out.
And believe me it's quite the story!
One that had me completely glued to my Kindle and reading well into the night. It was just that good, and I would thoroughly recommend Buried Too Deep to all.
Plus, I have to say I think out of the three stories set in New Orleans this has to be my favourite just because it featured Phin and he was such a real yet flawed character and that epilogue was....chefs kiss!
Karen Rose has done it again! She was the first author I ever read that I didn't move all day as I was so engrossed in the book... this is another one of those.
The characters and story draw you in and keep you hooked on the edge of your seat until all is revealed with the big bust at the end. The romantic tension is usual for Karen's style of writing and you can see it coming a mile away, however, I still enjoyed the sparks and the flirty banter.
Karen Rose fans will not be disappointed! This is going straight on my Wishlist for physical purchase
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this awesome book
oh man where to start with this high octane book that kept me reading right to the end so that i could see what happened and cry.... its the stuff of legends
phin is back... hes about to enter the establishment of Broussard Private Investigations when a woman comes tearing out of the place running away... the shots that followed are what galvanised phin into action.... he knew that only joy was in there and may need help.... even though phin himself was recovering from ptsd and had a service dog with him....
what he found nearly sent phin over the edge.... also the fact that the police thought he was a suspect and that burke who ran the place also looked at him suspiciously... didnt help his nerves
but things were going to get very messy before anything could be undone....
very high octane paced book with plenty of action and misdirection... and that ending had me in tears... loved it
Yet another phenomenal book by Karen Rose.
Extremely gripping from the very beginning. Highly recommend! 4/5
Having read all of Karen's previous titles I do find the romantic element rather predictable but I keep reading because I love the crime/suspense storylines. Plus the further you get into her series to more you connect with the characters and want to know more. This is the 3rd book with the New Orleans characters, focusing on Phin this time.
His love interest in the book (Cora) is seeking answers regarding letters she's been receiving for years from her father, who it turns out has been dead for over 20 years! Lots of twists and turns, kept me gripped throughout.
This is why Karen Rose is one of my favourite authors. Her books never disappoint.
The way Karen Rose writes is impeccable. The writing style was great, and the character development in this was amazing.
Really hoping to see more of Cora and Phin in the future as I really loved the characters.
I have nothing bad to say about this book. I loved it.
The thing I find with KR is that her books are absolutely MASSIVE, yet they just fly by and you forget you've just read 600-odd pages!!
Another masterpiece from the queen of romantic suspense. Cannot recommend KR enough to my friends and family, and anyone else who will listen :)
This is the third in this subseries, but you've no need to have read the previous two. It can work on it's own no problem. Although I would recommend reading the first two because they are great books.
I enjoyed meeting SodaPop :) and Phinn's relationship with him. And obviously Phinn and Cora. But the main draw for me, this time, was the 'cold case' of the missing father who turned out to have been murdered. But someone had been sending letters 'from him' to his daughter for years.... who? why?
Loved it.
The books in this series are all page turners- they are set in New Orleans and are centred on Burke Broussard’s detective agency. However each one focuses on a different character.
In “Buried Too Deep” the reader is introduced to Phin, a retired veteran and his wonderful service dog SodaPop. Returning to Broussard’s Agency after an absence due to his PTSD, Phin finds Joy, the receptionist , shot and witnesses a young woman fleeing the scene.
When he finally discovers who the woman is, a librarian called Cora Winslow and he realises that she is a victim not the perpetrator, the story really starts to race along. Cora and Phin develop feelings for each other after Phin and the rest of the agency decide to help her. Her father disappeared 23 years earlier and has been sending her regular letters ever since. However he has recently been discovered dead in the foundations of a building completed 23 years previously. Who has been sending her the letters? What is more, who has broken into her house and who tried to chase after her after shooting Joy?
There is a big mystery in this book as well as a simmering romance, a perfect combination for me. I just loved it and read it in double quick time.
The fact that Cora was a librarian and show cased her knowledge and research skills in the novel was the icing on the cake for me as that is my own profession!
This book was fast moving with a great plot but was very easy to follow! I really raced through it, keen to find out how everything tied together. The author also throws in an amoral tv preacher with some dubious relatives which meant that this was a book I just couldn’t put down.
Definitely a five star read and although the other books in the series are all excellent you can read this one and the others as standalones.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for my advance copy.
When Phil discovers a violent break-in at his work and one of his colleagues injured, it tales all his strength to fight through his PTSD in order to help solve what is happening. His only lead is Cora, who fled the scene. As the case is unravelled, it becomes apparent that Cora is being deliberately kept in the dark surrounding her father's death twenty-three years ago.
This was a riveting, emotional read. The writing had a wonderful complex plot with a fast moving pace and a delightful slow burn romance. I really enjoyed this book.
Another brilliant read from Karen Rose. I love the character progression and look forwards to learning more about Cara and SodaPop.
The story in itself was easy to follow and sometimes led you in a direction you did not expect. You will not be dissapointed with this.
Karen Rose is a fabulous author! She pulls you in from the very first page!
Cora the librarian, is looking to find her father, he disappeared 23 years ago and has been found in the next town, dead. She’s seeking answers - who’s been writing to her pretending to be him, she contacts Burkes PI firm and ends up in an absolute nightmare, the twists and turns, the details, the plot is so clever - and the characters make you want to be their friend! Love it!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Karen Rose has done it again. Another amazing book by Karen, it kept me gripped from the very first page until the very last page. PTSD is a subject very close to my heart and it was covered so well in this storyline. Can’t wait for the next book.
This is the third book in the New Orleans series. I have read all of Karen Roses' books since the beginning so I know I will read a brilliant book. Cora Jane Winslow's dad, Jack Elliott disappeared 23 years ago. When a body is found this leads to Cora founding out a lot of things about her Dad and how he lived his life. Cora is the subject of a few incidents so she hires the Broussard Investigations agency to look into them and they also protect her from things happening now. How does the past connect with the present? Why is important that Cora is targeted? Who is doing these things? All of these questions will be answered when you read this page turning book. It is a roller-coaster of a read with lots of plot twists and turns. I highly recommend this book.
Buried Too Deep Karen Rose

The third book in the New Orleans Series
Karen Rose is one of my favourite authors and I have read most of her books. This one is the third one in the New Orleans series and I think each one is getting better.
Cora Winslow has spent 23 years thinking her father had walked out on her family and despite receiving letters from him every year she cannot forgive him for what he did to her mother and younger brother. They are both dead but Cora still wants to know the truth.
At the start of the book Cora has just discovered that her father’s body has been discovered buried in the foundations of a building and shortly after the office manager at Broussard Detective Agency is shot whilst Cora is enlisting their help and then chased through the streets. Her whole world is turned upside down who has been sending the letters and why.
The other main character in this story is Phin Bishop who has just returned to helping out at the detective agency with minor jobs. He is suffering from severe PTSD and needs the help of his service dog Sodapop. Everyone involved in the detective agency as well as their contacts in the police are determined to unravel what is happening and, as is usual in a Karen Rose book the twists become thick and fast.
All of her books are so brilliantly crafted as she lets us into the plot a little at a time and as usual, I could not put this book down. There is always a romance in her books and in some of her earlier books I found them a little overpowering as the couples seemed to be passionately in love by the end of the first chapter. This relationship grows slowly and enhanced the book for me.
I also enjoyed the way characters from the previous New Orleans series are also in this book, the way they all interact and to be able to find out how their lives are continuing. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Cora Winslow, the target of a shooting at Broussard Investigations office, finds herself being chased through the french quarter. Lately she's felt someone has been breaking into her home, but doesn't understand why. She's recently discovered her father, believed to have left her mother for another woman 23 years ago, has actually been dead all this time. In the past 23 years Cora has been receiving letters from father, or so she thought. As she and the team at Broussard investigate further they unravel and incredible tale of murder and deceit.
My favourite Karen Rose book to date!
It was a fantastic read with lots of twists and turns to keep you wanting more. I loved all the main characters, especially Phin and Cora. Phin is a military veteran who suffers from PTSD and has his service dog Sodapop by his side. Cora is the local librarian with endless knowledge and incredible strength of character.
I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. I was a little sad when it was over, although the story wrapped up beautifully.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The third book in the New Orleans series and a little slower than the first two. Here we get to know Phin Bishop, brother of Scarlett. A veteran suffering PTSD. Cora is searching for answers, her dad’s body has been discovered after being missing for 23 years. Lots of secrets have been buried by Alan Beauchamp, but they now risk being uncovered.
I love Karen Rose and have read all her books. They follow a formula which I really like, and the interwoven characters always add an interesting backstory. However, this didn’t feel like it had quite the kick of her past books. It wasn’t quite the whodunnit fans of her books might be used to. Nevertheless, a solid and enjoyable read.
I am bleary eyed from staying up too late to finish this book! As usual, a page turner of an epic story that makes it difficult to put down. When your kindle says 10hrs of reading time the promise of twists, turns and a hell of a ride awaits. Another brilliant thriller from Karen Rose with characters that show everyone has flaws and you don't have to be perfect to be good or loved.
Thank you to NetGalley and Karen Rose for the chance to read this ARC. I loved it.
Another amazing book from Karen Rose!
Incredible to see Phin back, he’s a sweetheart!
Cora-Jane’s dad walked out 23 years ago, and never returned, now Cora wants to know what happened. How much danger is she really in? Could Tandy’s father really have anything to do with it?
Burke and his team are back, minus one, with Joy laid up in hospital can the gang protect Cora and uncover what happened to her father all those years ago? You’ll just have to read Buried Too Deep to find out!
Having enjoyed a considerable number of titles from Karen Rose in the past, I looked forward to yet another enjoyable few hours reading this one, but sadly, it didn’t hit the mark with me.. Others however, might find it more enjoyable.
I love Karen Rose and was so excited to get this review book.
It was awesome I couldn't put it down.
Thank you for the opportunity to review
