Firstly I would like to thank netgalley and Joffe books, and the author Emmy Ellis for an early copy of her book to read.
This is my first read from this author, it was short book.Carys finds her new boyfriend head on a spike,Detective Inspector Anna James investigates. She finds out Carys is telling lies, what is she hiding.with more victims will Anna James find the answers? This was an okay read but wasnt fully engaged with the characters.
This book will be reviewed on goodreads and Amazon uk.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Detective inspector Anna James is called in when a man’s head is found on a spike, in his ex girlfriend’s garden. When another murder occurs, all signs point to the murderer being connected to Carys.
This was a great read! Certainly learned a lot about pigs-not quite the wee cuties I had thought. Knowing who the murderer was from the start was an enjoyable style. The flashbacks giving the reasoning for it all. Anna and team were great characters and I enjoyed the banter and relationships. The possibility of a corrupt policeman added a different possible storyline.
Even though we knew ‘who dunnit’ th here was still suspense and a build up to who the next victim would be. Highly recommend this new series and hope it continues.
Thank you NetGalley and Joffe Books for the eARC.
This is the first in the D.I. Anna James series and it's a very promising start. I would have given it 5 stars, but rounded it down to 4.5 because I got creeped out by the 'murder by pigs' and 'heads on a pike' parts of the story.
But I loved Anna and her best friend and partner, as well as the way the story was styled: we knew who 'dunnit' and why. Anna is a very likeable character and I'm very curious as to what will happen to her love life!
Looking forward to no. 2 in the series!
I really enjoyed reading this book, couldn't put it down. Really want to read the next book in the series
Gotta be careful around those cute little piglets! Yep, pigs will eat anything, quite intense - and central to this solid police investigation, with an interesting team and a complex, and rather lurid, set if crimes. Settle in and get comfy, you won't be moving from that spot all too soon ...
Brilliant start to what’s shaping up to be another exciting series from Emmy Ellis a true queen of crime fiction.
DI Anna James is investigating a strange case a man’s head has been put on a stake outside a house she’s told is owned by his girlfriend but she soon discovers Cary’s Brignell is a compulsive liar who is also found in the local bar picking up men. When more victims appear who have been with Carys and then her ex husband is beaten up Anna thinks she’s the common denominator.
Then comes The Kings the local gang who she thinks one of her colleagues is in league with them her job gets very messy and busy.
Great book and looking forward for more of Anna James.
First detective crime books are my all time favourite. And I really enjoyed this, I felt connected to Anna and Lenny straight away i like how completely different this is to other books I’ve read we actually knew who the murderer was. It felt like we go to know more about the crime through his point of view which I enjoyed.
The crime was well thought out and a little gruesome
I liked how we seen Anna and the team just be normal people that was lovely I can’t wait to find out more about Anna and her team I read this in a day it kept me gripped I didn’t want to stop reading. It was a easy read I was fully invested
A killer who feeds his victims to the pigs. A woman who finds her boyfriend’s head in her front garden. A strait-laced detective who’s attracted to a shady gang member! Great read!! I get so excited when I see Joffe books! I swear they know how to pick their authors! This book did not disappoint! It had great suspense, intriguing, gruesome murders, serial killer, mystery, abuse, revenge and interesting characters! The storyline was very interesting and had me gripped to my kindle! I highly recommend reading this book! It was well worth reading! Thank you NetGalley and Joffe books for sharing this book with me!
