I initially thought the various characters would be confusing but actually as I learned how they were all connected, it was easy to keep track of everyone. This was a really sweet story with family at the heart of it, I really enjoyed it.
If you’re looking for a heartfelt, heartbreaking, laugh out loud, feel all the emotions book than this is the one for you. This is the first book I have read by this author but it did not disappoint. The story follows a woman who lives in Scotland. What more do you need to know. Scotland is absolutely gorgeous and they have hot men. That alone should make you want to read this book.
Loved this book. Had a big connection with the characters and it had all my emotions going. Love the way this author writes and highly recommend to anyone who loves their contemporary romance genre.
This heartwarming tale is set in a small Scottish town during Hogmanay (New Year’s eve) celebrations. It follows four characters as they make life-changing decisions in just twenty-four hours. The story begins at 8 am on 31 December, and unfolds in two-hour increments, culminating just after midnight as the New Year begins. Each character must face their past and make a choice for their future as time runs out.
Ailish Ryan, reeling from her husband’s affair and the subsequent breakdown of her marriage, has been hiding from the world. But when her lively friend Gwen, recently out of the hospital and awaiting cancer test results, convinces her to celebrate the New Year as they once did, Ailish reluctantly agrees. Suddenly, her ex-husband appears, wanting to reconcile, making her decide if she can let go of the past or stay stuck in her sadness.
Emmy, Ailish’s daughter, struggles with trust issues. Considering her father’s betrayal, she spends the day playing detective to investigate her boyfriend’s fidelity. As the hours tick by, Emmy must decide whether she’s repeating her mother’s mistakes or if her fears are unfounded.
Minnie Ryan, the family matriarch, is on a personal mission. Despite her declining health, she is determined to deliver a special gift to a lifelong friend before the year ends. With her trusty companion Henry by her side, Minnie’s journey through the town reveals the strength of her will, a lifetime of memories, and the importance of tradition in the face of an uncertain future.
Finally, Dario Moretti, who has spent his entire life working in the family business, is facing a crisis. With the business in trouble, he has received an offer to sell that could save his family from financial ruin. But with the deadline looming at midnight, Dario must decide if he can let go of the past and seek his father’s approval, or cling to a legacy that may no longer serve him or the people he loves.
One Midnight With You is a story of healing and hope, reminding us that sometimes, the end of one year offers the perfect chance to begin again.
One Midnight with You is told in a unique way, in time slots of two hours, starting at 8am and gradually counting down to midnight on New Year’s Eve!
The author’s style of writing was impressive and through her wonderful descriptions i could honestly feel as though i was there being absorbed in all the New Year goodness…
This book was a very easy read and i found myself turning the pages faster and faster so that i could find out what was happening next!
I loved this story, it was heartwarming and emotional and funny and a gorgeous well-rounded story too…..
This is my first book by Shari Low but it is apparently a part of a series.
One Midnight with You does have several characters and it is told in multiple points of view over the course of one New Year's Eve. At first it was tough to keep all the characters straight but then it became clearer. Almost all the characters are likeable (except for the cheating ex husband) and so you wanted to cheer for them to find happy outcomes.
I love a story that makes me laugh and cry. I laughed out loud several times as I was reading. Though the story was very predictable it was very sweet. I enjoyed the feel good nature of the story.
Overall this was a quick, sweet story full of humor and emotion. I would read other things by this author.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Low is the absolute queen of writing the most glorious stories set within a 24hr period.
Set in Glasgow, it's NYE and there's every reason to be celebrating, but for our four friends there are life changing decisions to be made!
Ailish, Emmy, Minnie and Dario are the four main characters the story is set around, and it comes with a great cast of side characters too.
It's a heartwarming read that's high on emotion, is fun and a thoroughly enjoyable read.
BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'One Midnight With You ' by Shari Low.
This book has absolutely incredible and evocative descriptions that set you straight in the scenes. The cover, title and synopsis suit the storyline perfectly.
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions setting the picture perfectly in the readers mind. The title, description and cover works perfectly with the storyline. It is one of those books that are very easy to read and perfect for any reading situations whether you are laying on a beach or curled up in front of a fire. It is an absolutely ideal read for anyone who is looking for a beautiful read that will have you hooked from beginning to end. I absolutely LOVED the realism of this storyline which made it so easy to picture everything that was going on which had been helped by Shari's fantastic evocative writing skills. I cannot wait to get hooked into more of Shari's books so I hope she is busy writing her next one!! In this beautiful storyline we meet 54 year old Ailish Ryan who is a primary school teacher and has been hiding since her husband Eric's affair ended their marriage, 29 year old Emmy who is Ailish and Eric's daughter and is a nurse who thought her boyfriend Cormac Sweeney who is a firefighter was different but is now questioning his fidelity, 54 year old Dario Moretti who has given his whole life to the family business which is now in trouble and 78 year old Minnie Ryan who is Eric's mum and is determined to deliver a special gift to a lifelong friend. These are our four main protagonists who are all dealing with their own problems. New Years Eve is special to all of them but can their lives change before the clock strikes midnight? In this absolutely stunning storyline that is set over 24 hours Shari does an absolutely incredible job of weaving together the multiple protagonists perspectives together perfectly really bringing their characters and stories to life as the reader turns the pages. There is so much going on I was absolutely hooked from the very first page to the last. Shari has very thoughtfully started the book with a list of the main characters and a short paragraph on each of them to help readers to see what part each plays and to avoid any confusion, not that I found any as she constructed it perfectly, as always! It is a rollercoaster ride of emotions that will have you laughing one page and crying the next so it is definitely a book to read when you have a free day and a box of tissues on standby!! I absolutely loved the unique storyline of having just 24 hours to change the lives of not just one or even two but four characters lives and each of their lives are intertwined. Ailish and Emmy are mother and daughter and Minnie is Ailish's ex mother in law and Emmy's Gran. In regards to Dario, Minnie has been coming to his restaurant for years with her husband of 60 years Henry. It really is a gorgeous, heart-warming, gripping, moving, captivating, thought provoking, compelling and just absolutely stunning book filled with family, love, drama, sadness, relationships, heartache, new beginnings, dreams, hope and many more emotions. Along with our main protagonists and the characters I have previously mentioned we meet several others including Ailish's best friends 54 year old Gwen Millen who is an interior designer and Rhonda Nichols who is 54 owns a chain of hairdressing salons, Emmy's friends 35 year old Yvie Danton and 30 year old Keli Clark who are both nurses, 79 year old Gino Moretti who is Dario's father and founder of the restaurant 'Gino's Trattoria', 52 year old Nicky Moretti who is Dario's ex wife, 36 year old Carlo Moretti who is Dario's brother and owns his own Café called 'Carlo's Café', 30 year old Matty Moretti who is Dario and Nicky's son and chef at the restaurant, 54 year old brodie Moore who is Dario's best friend and commercial lawyer and 64 year old Sonya McGregor who is the cleaner at the family restaurant!! I wouldn't normally list the characters in a review but I wanted to show how Shari has used an extremely wide range of characters with different ages, relationships and careers and brings them all together in an absolutely wonderful storyline. Not only are there are a wide range of characters but each and every one of them has their own unique personalities, from quirky to sarcastic, volatile to loyal, suave to straight talking. They all have their individual strengths, flaws and weaknesses and each and every single one of them come to life in front of your eyes as you turn the pages of this book thanks to Shari's stunning emotive and evocative writing skills. Along with the very helpful list of characters Shari also splits the storyline into different sections for each part of the day along with different chapters for each of our main protagonists which is another great way to avoid any confusion. This is definitely one of those books that will turn a frown upside down and make life seem a lot brighter. I absolutely LOVE the fact that we are told the story from so many perspectives as it means that we get to see a much bigger picture and learn more about how the different characters are feeling and acting about certain events and situations. Well, I think I have talked about this gorgeous book long enough so I will stop now rather than run the risk of giving too much of the storyline away and will let you discover what happens when you pick up your copy as I don't want to spoil anything for any future readers. However, I can promise you it will be a fun rollercoaster ride of drama, laughter and absolutely everything you could want in an absolutely unforgettable, laugh until you have tears streaming down your face, page turner!!!! Shari's evocative writing skills drew me deep into the book bringing the atmosphere and characters to life all around me. It is one of those books that I could not put down. I ended up walking around the house looking at my kindle reading away and absolutely devoured it in one sitting. I did not expect the twists and turns or the ending which is a HUGE bonus so congratulations Shari. I have started finding that many romance books have storylines that are too predictable and I am finding that i am guessing what is going to happen in most of them but I did not manage with this one so I am definitely looking forward to seeing if you can do the same in each of your pat and future books!!
Pick up this book, clear your schedules, grab the tissues and get lost in this absolutely gorgeous page turner! I promise that you will NOT regret it!!!
Congratulations Shari on yet another absolutely stunning read that I just could not put down!!! I am looking forward to reading more of your previous and future books. I would absolutely love to see this book turned into a movie!!! This is the exact reason you are on favourite author list and here's to your next success 🥂
Overall an unputdownable, uplifting, heart-warming, poignant and just absolutely stunning book filled with family, tears, drama, romance, fun, laughter, friendship and so much more!!

Such a great read! Highly recommend this one.
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Ailish is healing from her husband’s affairs, with great friends around her, but her daughter is worried she has followed the pattern and picked the wrong man.
But friends, family and twenty -four hours could give all the answers.
This book is written over the space of twenty-four hours with four main characters who have alternate chapters. I love Minnie and her back story the best, but I love how all these stories intertwine.
Low gives us another heartwarming and emotional novel, with humour and full of characters you wish were real.
In this fun, heartwarming modern romance novel, readers join three generations of women -- Mary, Ailish, and Emmy -- on December 31 after a chaotic year. Ailish’s husband (Emmy’s father and Mary’s son) had an affair which ended their marriage, and she has gone into hiding until her friends drag her out into the real world. Mary is coping with her husband’s death and has a gift for a dear, old friend to give, and Emmy’s father’s affair has hurt her trust in men, including her boyfriend who has recently been acting suspiciously. As for local restaurateur Dario Moretti, the family business is in serious trouble and he is out of options and on his own. With a heartwarming premise, likable characters, and a ticking countdown, readers live these twenty-four hours by alternating between Dario, Ailish, Emmy, and Mary’s perspectives, often reading the same moment from multiple perspectives. Low’s characters are the heart of the story, and they are all complex, relatable, and realistic figures with different problems and complicated personalities, so the alternating chapters do not blend together. All four characters have twenty-four hours to change their lives and perhaps fix their hearts, but whether they will take the chance is up to them.
I’m a huge fan of Shari Low’s books and I especially enjoy these ones set throughout a twenty four hour period.
This one is set in New Years Eve in Glasgow, there are four main characters we are following all with something going on that’s going to happen on New Years Eve.
There are quite a lot of characters and there is a lot going on but I never found myself struggling to keep up or remembering who was who. Shari does such a great job with the characters as always, you really feel like you are there with them living through these moments. I loved Ailish and her friends, they had me laughing so much at times!
I know I always say this with books by this author but I go through all the emotions every time! One moment I’m laughing the I’m crying. If you have never read a book by Shari Low I highly recommend them.
Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources for having me on the tour and to the publisher for the gifted ebook.
Shari Low has done it again, such a lovely book, with relatable characters that you quickly become invested in!
As the title suggests One Midnight With You centres around the events leading up to New Years celebrations for a group of friends in Scotland and their traditional meet up in a favourite restaurant.
I particularly like the older character, grandmother Minnie, and the back story to the celebrations.
Heart-warming and emotional, a book that is not just for the festive season!
What a touching story. Shari Low never disappoints! She is a master at creating heartfelt books.l.
I was a little apprehensive at the start when I saw how many characters were in the book. I worried I would have a hard time keeping them all straight. I did not have that problem at all.
There are many generations represented. The friendships and family are at the heart of the story. Some very funny moments and many touching ones as well. By the end I felt like they were people I knew myself.
Thanks to netgalley and Boldwood Books for the arc.
Absolutely gorgeous book!! Loved it so much @sharilowbooks !
So there are several characters, who’s story we follow over the period of a day. Not just any day though, it’s New Year’s Eve (Hogmanay as we call it 🏴). The characters are all connected in some way and we find out how, through the story. The characters are all likeable but Granny Minnie is my favourite!! There was a part in the book that got me so much 😭, I even messaged the author 😂😂. Don’t worry, I dont to spoilers! I’ve come to love Shari’s books and can’t wait for her next read. Hug in a book ❤️ #followback #likesforlikes #followers #likes #me #followback #comment #instadaily #sharilow #boldwoodbooks
A heartwarming read about the last day of the year and how five different people but whose lives are all closely meshed with each other spend that day.
I liked Ailisha’s story the best and how her friends were there to bolster her confidence as she entered the land of the living after her divorce.
I was surprised at Emmy’s reaction and response at the end of the book but then she corrected it to my huge relief.
The other stories were good as well.
The book is a great reminder that you don’t have to wait until New Year’s Eve to change your life and begin anew.
This book is set in Scotland during the Hogmanay celebrations. I liked the way the narrative of this novel took place over a 24-hour period. Furthermore, each section is broken down into two hour time periods. This gave the book much immediacy and I enjoyed it very much.
It is a light-hearted, humorous and entertaining read. The chapters are written from the perspective of four of the characters, Ailish, her daughter Emmy, Ailish's ex-mother-in-law Minnie and Dario, an old friend of the family. I enjoyed the way each of the characters moved the story along through their different perspectives.
There was much humour included in the story. However, there were also some more serious elements that the author handled well. At no time did this feel heavy. It remained along an upbeat tone and was joyous to read.
I recommend giving it a read. It would also make for a fantastic Christmas gift in the run up to the New Year celebrations.
ARC Review/ Book Tour
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
New Years or Hogmanay as it is referred to in Scotland is a time of celebration. It consists of social gatherings with friends and family that center around food/drinks, dancing, and fireworks. But for a handful of citizens this year is proving to be difficult. Will tradition be enough to lift their spirits, or will this time of reflection leave them more concerned for their futures?
Shari Low is a talented writer that I have come to know and love. Somehow she manages to write the perfect book for every occasion or season of life. Not only has mastered ensemble storytelling but interpersonal relationships all together.
As with all Low’s books I don’t want to go into too much detail as to spoil the plot. It has strong themes of tradition, community, and family/ friendship. It walks alongside characters as they learn to let go, embrace change, and open their hearts to love.
Special thanks to Netgalley, Shari Low, and Boldwood Books for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
EXCERPT: Back in the late eighties, before they were even old enough to legally drink, seventeen-year-old junior hairdresser, Rhonda, would regale her and Gwen with all the gossip of every famous encounter while they got ready to go out on a Saturday night. If they managed to use their flashing smiles and fake IDs to get into a club, the night would be a win. If not, they'd get chips and head back to Rhonda's house to play a Simple Minds album and have a dance party in the bedroom, because her mum worked nights in a bar.
How did they get from there to being three fifty-four-year-old women so quickly? And what would the young girls they were back then think of the women they'd become? Ailish shrugged off the realisation that seventeen-year-old Ailish would be massively disappointed with her current situation. All that optimism of youth had gone the same way as her pert buttocks, her blue eyeliner obsession and her conviction that one day she'd marry George Michael - right out of the window.
ABOUT 'ONE MIDNIGHT WITH YOU': Ailish Ryan has been in hiding since her husband’s affair ended their marriage. But when a friend forces her to face her new reality, will she choose to revisit the past or embrace a brand new future?
Ailish’s daughter, Emmy, thought her boyfriend was nothing like her cheating father, but now she’s not so sure. As the hours pass, she turns detective to find out if she picked the right man, or if history is repeating itself.
Grandmother, Minnie Ryan is on a mission to deliver a very special gift to a lifelong friend. But will grit and a touch of divine intervention be enough to overcome the obstacles that fate is putting in her way?
Dario Moretti has spent his whole life working in the family business, but now it’s in trouble and he’s all out of options. Will he have the strength to let it go, even if it means hurting the people he loves?
The clock is ticking… but will twenty-four hours be long enough to heal four broken hearts?
MY THOUGHTS: How can you not love a Shari Low book? They are the easiest books to get lost in; the characters all felt like old friends. And, indeed, some of these are old friends, appearing in Shari's previous books. But not to worry if you haven't read any of the previous books, because One Midnight With You is easily read as a stand-alone. Each book in this series focuses on a different character and, although the stories interconnect and the characters wander in and out of each book, the plot doesn't rely upon you having read the previous books.
The outstanding theme of Shari Low's books is friendship. She takes all the sh*t stuff that life regularly throws at us - death, divorce, cancer, infidelity - and balances them with love, romance, family and friendship.
Her characters are real people - me, you, the neighbor - and their trials and tribulations are just as real. And speaking of characters, I love that, in the front of this book, Shari has included a brief profile of each character. Let me introduce you to:
Ailish Ryan, 54 - Newly divorced mum, primary school teacher, recently moved from her family home to a two-bedroom flat where she is supposed to be embracing single life. And she will - just as soon as she works up the motivation to get out of her comfy clothes and crocs.
Eric Ryan, 58 - Ailish's ex-husband. Suave silver fox and director of a successful marketing company. Commonly known as the 'Adulterous Arse'.
I also love the way the story is told in two-hour increments, and we see what is happening to each of our characters in these time blocks as New Year's Eve day moves towards midnight and the countdown to a New Year. And believe me, A LOT happens in these twenty-four hours!
Shari Low writes with empathy, compassion and great wit. I laugh and cry in almost equal measure. If you're looking for a heartwarming uplifting read that will exercise all your emotions, look no further than Shari Low's One books. Once you've read one, you'll want to read them all.

THE AUTHOR: In real life, once upon a time she met a guy, got engaged after a week, and thirty-something years later she lives near Glasgow with the one they said would never last. Their children have now grown and scattered across the world, so she spends an inordinate amount of time on video calls and aeroplanes.

'Friendships last long after midnight'
Shari Low's new book one midnight with you follows several characters journeys in the hours leading up to midnight on new years eve / Hogmanay in Glasgow, Scotland.
I adore Low's books and this one was no different she has a way of building up suspense and making you fall in love with each and every character while not always knowing 100% where the book is going to go until the very end. Each character is connected in a way that unravels throughout the story and keeps you interested through it's entirety.
Shari low has a very unique writing style that I adore and in each one of her books she manages to create beautiful and dunny friendships groups while also covering more series topics such as illness, death, jealousy and grief in a true but tactful way that doesn't make the book too heavy, she has the perfect balance of funny and serious.
I highly recommend any one of Shari Low's books including this one for a heart-warming and fun read.
