One Midnight With You is the brand new novel by Shari Low and takes place during the build up to New Year/Hogmanay celebrations.
I love this author's writing style and her talent for building a heartwarming and uplifting story while touching the deeper, darker emotions such as grief, jealousy and loss. In this novel there are quite a few characters to keep track of but it didn't take me long to get to know them all and their stories.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review.
One Midnight with you is another wonderful and at times emotional read by Shari Low. This book had me completely captivated right from the very beginning and the more I read the more I became engrossed with all the characters and what was going on with them all . One of the many things I love about this authors books is how the stories pull you right in from the very beginning . The way the characters are described by the end of this book I felt as if they were real life friends and I just love that in a book . There was something in this story that I had my suspicions about and when the reveal came I admit it had me in tears , even though I was kind of expecting it . I also want to mention that I love the way Shari Low introduces us to all the characters at the start of her books. Often if there are many characters I find myself having to search back through my kindle if I forget who a certain character is but with her books it’s so easy to check back . So to sum up I adored this book and highly recommend it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When I see a new title from Shari Low, I know I must read it. I love her use of multiple viewpoints and intersecting stories that take place over the course of 24 hours. One Midnight With You sounded especially intriguing and definitely brought out a range of emotions as I read it. You can be sure I will be reading all of her earlier titles that I can find. Thanks to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for an early copy to read and review.
Taking place over the course of one Hogmanay - the Scottish equivalent of New Year’s Eve - and told from the perspective of four separate but interconnected characters, questions will be raised and answered, and lives will change.
Ailish Ryan has had important things happen in her life on Hogmanay. Falling in love, getting engaged…and, some thirty years later, quite literally discovering her cheating husband and then being served with divorce papers.
She has no intentions of celebrating he new year but is pulled out of her depression by her two best lifelong friends and gussied up to a night on the town.
All of this happening against the backdrop of Gino’s Trattoria, a local restaurant that Ailish and her family have been going round to for decades to ring in the new year.
Then there’s Emmy, her daughter who is in love but convinced, in large part due to her father’s philandering, that she’s being cheating on. Add in Minnie, the matriarch, who appears unexpectedly at Hogmanay with a plan. And Dario, Gino’s son and current manager of the family restaurant faced with a terrible decision.
And so, in rotating chapters, in two hour increments, we watch as these people come together, come apart, and come to decisions.
It’s a super quick read with engaging characters and interesting dilemmas. It reads like a light hearted family drama, an Ann Napolitano novel that takes the drama down a notch and adds some fluffier stuff.
Overall I enjoyed it though it was a bit too easy and predictable for me.
Thanks to @netgalley and @boldwood for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. This one comes out August 26, 2024.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed reading this beautiful book.
The story is told over the hours leading up to Hogmanay,
The characters, go through different events during the day, they are friends, as well as relatives who are connected to others in different ways. Before it’s midnight, they’re all at Gino’s restaurant, the place where they’ve always come to for a long time.
The story was well written, with a lot of love and emotions throughout. The characters were lovely and relatable.
I highly recommend this book.
I got a bit confused by the character list at the start but they all came together as the story went along. A lovely read with themes of hope and new beginnings.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
This is set over one New Year's Eve and we follow a group of characters through one momentous night. The characters really made this, their connections came across and I really cared about them and their individual stories.
The plot is joyous, and there are lots of different threads that are all entertaining. I was never bored reading this and I was completely invested.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advance copy.
It's Hogmanay in August, y'all. Break out the bubby and get ready to party with the old and new customers at Gino's. It's been a fixture in downtown Glasgow for decades. Passed down from the founder Gino to his son Dario and now grandson Matty awaits his turn. What will midnight bring for this family establishment?
Shari Low does what she does best. Sets up a 24 hour period and provides multiple POVs and stories to tear at our heartstrings. My favorite character of them all was Minnie Ryan, the centenarian who has a mission to complete at the celebration. This is yet another heartwarming title with many likable folks to root for and happy endings all around. If you haven't tried this author yet, this is a good place to start. I'll bet you will want to check out her earlier titles once you have read this new release.

A beautifully written book by this brilliant author. Love, laughter, loss, rejection, sadness and community are weaved into this story, written from different peddlers over one New Years Eve. A great read.
Ailish Ryan was visiting her friend Gwen in hospital with their best friend, Rhonda. It was the one thing Ailish left her house for after her cheating husband left their thirty year marriage for a younger model. It was New Year's Eve and her final divorce papers had arrived that morning. Could she possibly join her friends for their annual Hogmanay celebration? When Gwen was allowed to come home, Ailish knew, for Gwen's sake, she could do it. The night at Gino's restaurant was always great fun; she hoped this new year was the same. Meanwhile Emma, Ailish's daughter, was having having heartache of her own...
Dario Moretti had taken over Gino's when his mother had died and his father, Gino, was grief stricken. Dario had worked in the family business in Scotland all of his working life, and Gino always arrived on Hogmanay to join in, talk to old friends, make new ones and count down to the bells. But Dario had major problems, ones he'd have to put on the table that night and he dreaded disappointing his father. As well, the elderly Minnie Ryan had a mission of her own that Hogmanay eve, one she hoped she could fulfil.
One Midnight With You is another exceptional read by Shari Low which I couldn't put down. I loved the characters (most of them anyway!) especially Minnie, and found myself having to put the book down to control my laughter at times. I've only recently discovered Shari Low and have enjoyed each and every book I've read of hers. Highly recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley & Boldwood Books for my digital ARC to read and review.
This was my first time reading Shari’s books and I loved it. I’m a huge fan of dual POV and this is multiple POV ☺️
The story is told over the day/night of Hogmanay (New Year’s Eve). The main characters are Ailish, her daughter Emmy and Minnie (Emmys gran)
Ailish is newly divorced, trying to embrace single life but not succeeding so far but this turns around thanks to her friends Rhonda and Gwen.
Emmy has massive trust issues thanks to her dad Eric cheating on her mum. Minnie is just fabulous, she’s totally focused on her Hogmanay plans, she doesn’t have time to deal with her dizzy spells and falls.
The other main focus is Dario and his restaurant which has shaped so many of their lives, since the pandemic he’s financially struggling but has so many lives/futures to consider, he really carrying the weight in his shoulders.
This is such a perfectly wholesome story of family, love, heartbreak, trust and hope.
Thank you NetGalley, Shari Low and Boldwood Books for this ARC, all opinions expressed are my own.
I always enjoy a Shari Low story and especially one over a specific timeline like One Midnight With You. Each of the characters we meet have had such changes in their lives over the past year and the 24 hours of Hogmanay will hopefully allow them to move on with their lives.
I really enjoyed how each of the characters was given a voice and that we were able to fully comprehend their emotions and needs. The story weaves between the four of them really neatly, each linking with the other as more of their histories are unveiled.
Minnie’s story was the one I enjoyed the most as she relived her moments at Gino’s over the years, although Ailish and her friends sounded great
This author has quickly become a must read for me. Every one of her books has been really good. They all take place over the course of one day.
This story centers over several people and where their life is on this day, New Year’s Eve. The book flows well as we get to know everyone. There’s joy and some sadness throughout this book. Definitely recommend, you won’t be able to put it down!
Wonderful!
This is another beautiful book by Shari Low. Taking place over the hours leading up to Hogmanay, also known as New Year’s to people in the US, several people experience events in the day. There are friends and relatives, all interconnected in some way to each other, and all the day’s stories lead up to midnight at Gino’s restaurant, a gathering place for many years.
I love the way this author crafts her stories, so much emotion and love woven in. Simple events turn into something so much more. The characters are so real I feel like I know them personally. I can’t say enough good things about this book, please read it!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
This was a fun, emotion filled book that had me hooked from the start. Lots of characters with flaws that make you love them even more. Each chapter is told from the POV of a different character that slowly weaves together a story of love, loss, friendship, forgiveness, and starting over. Absolutely loved it
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review
I know when I get a Shari Low book I’m buckling in for a roller coaster read of emotions! This book had it all! Love, tears, laughs, ,friendships, but most of all a sense of community! I love the fact it’s set in Glasgow and I know where these places are. Loved all the characters and you always recognise your own family or friends in some of them!
Highly recommend this book but also all Shari’s other books as well! Makes you feel all warm at the end of it!
🌃Great community of characters: will this day end in celebration?🎉
I am a big fan of the way author Shari Low packs so much everyday drama and such fascinating storylines into a short timeline. In this case, it's New Year's Eve or Hogmanay in Glasgow where the story's set. Everyone's day ends up intersecting at a well-beloved, family owned Italian restaurant, with multi-generational families, partners and close friends experiencing their highs and lows on this special last night of the year.
Business woes, romantic problems, health issues and family disagreements run rife but, if you're looking for the upside, you get it, too, in a happy ending that takes you past midnight and into a New Year full of promise.
It's not my favorite of the many novels I've read by Shari Low but it's still warm, entertaining and poignant, emotional times alternating, to form a really enjoyable story.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
In my opinion, Shari Low never fails to deliver a great story. Her books are always uplifting and heartwarming. The characters are absolutely adorable and feel so realistic which made this another addictive page turner. Devoured in just 24 hours i just wanted it to continue and find out more about all the characters after this story ended. Thoroughly enjoyable, i never feel let down by this remarkable author, one of my favourites.
Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for allowing me an advanced copy to read in exchange for my open and honest review. As always, my reviews will also be posted on Amazon, Goodreads and Waterstones and interaction on Facebook and instagram where possible.
Thank you NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Shari Low for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
One Midnight With You is a really unique story told over 24hours from several different perspectives. There are about 15 characters whose lives are intertwined that we hear about.
I have read 2 of Shari Low’s other books in a similar format and enjoyed them. It’s remarkable what can happen in such a short amount of time, especially when you consider a group of people connected like this.
The story seems so straight forward and clear from the start but there are several twists that keep you turning the page.
I wouldn’t consider this a typical romance, I would have said more Women’s Fiction but it doesn’t have a lot of focus on relationships.
I adored the tradition of celebrating New Year’s or Hogmanay together and now want to create a tradition like that in my life. The friendships in this book were something so touching and special.
Aw I love Shari Low! Her books are just so full of heart. I adore the Glasgow settings and dialect, I can relate to so much of it. And just when you think things are maybe getting a wee bit twee and comfortable, there is an unexpected shift in the story. She writes so realistically about friendships, we might not approve of our friends choices but we will always defend them to the hilt and be there for them.
