From Air by Jewel E. Ann
Wildfire #1

Immersive, emotional, heart-warming, wonderful story that drew me in, made me care, and left me with a smile on my face

What I liked:
* Reading a new-to-me-author that I would gladly read again
* Jamie: RN, homeschooled, quiet upbringing, lost her parents, good friend, traveling psychiatric nurse, wants to experience new places before settling down, mature, wise, caring, a person I would like to have as a friend
* Calvin: smoke jumper, difficult backstory, emotionally reserved, voracious reader, somewhat blocked off from others, likable, “broken”, loves deeply, caring, good friend, intriguing
* Supporting characters that were important and that I would like to see again: Maren, Will, and Melissa for sure…perhaps a few others
* Edith: Calvin’s grandmother who played a big part in Calvin’s life
* The development of the relationship between Jamie and Calvin ~ fun, flirty, quirky, sometimes difficult, and ultimately perfect
* The psychological and emotional issues dealt with, honest open communication of the main characters, the support of community and friends
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing ~ Excellently crafted book!
* The growth of both main characters as they processed new information and dealt with past and present issues
* Being reminded of taking student nurses to Patton State Hospital in San Bernardino and wondering if perhaps Dwight was in that prison/facility
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The emotional pain some of the characters experienced and the causes of that pain

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I was incredibly let down by this book. I wanted to enjoy this - all of the hallmarks were there: small town, grumpy x sunshine and men in uniform. Ultimately though, the story fell flat. I did not enjoy this and thought this was a poorly written story.

This story follows Jamie, a travel nurse who moves to Montana for a six-month stint. Moving in with three firefighters, one of them quickly catches her eye. Calvin, better known as Fitz, is grumpy and 10 years older. He’s a closed book, and Jamie can’t help but poke the bear, trying to get him to open up. Despite Calvin’s reluctance to settle down or commit, Jamie finds herself falling hard. But what will it take to get Calvin to let her in?

Jewel has done it again! This is a beautifully complicated relationship, with one person giving their all to someone who just can’t. The tension and chemistry between Jamie and Calvin were fantastic. And don’t even get me started on the plot twist—I never saw it coming, it threw a major spanner in the works. The story was deeply emotional at times, especially when declarations of love were made but Calvin remained unmoved but wanted to give his all. I absolutely love Jewel’s writing—she grips and captivates me every time I pick up one of her books. Highly recommend this and the audiobook!

Oh this book took me off guard! In the best way! It was great to step into this new world of first responders. It’s funny, sexy and raw. It’s breaking and healing and a twist on what destiny looks like when two souls are meant to be together. I laughed and then I cried because what these two have been through and go through & the devastation of the truth that bring and pull them apart, was both heartbreaking and healing.

Jaymes is my new favorite girl name I never encountered in all my reading adventures. She is exactly what need. She’s a caring and loving person who wants to give herself to the man of her dreams. She loves with a pure heart and unadulterated force we should all take notes from.

Fitz is a man, i meant a HOT man, much like many one may encounter until you see the truth and how it’s affected his life. He’s brave and devastating. Living the way he believes will keep his past hidden and maybe redeem what he had no control over.

This pair has fast become one of my favorites because it was an exchange of real talk and getting over obstacles they never even knew they had.

Jewel E Ann knows how to pull on those heartstrings so much so that you can’t hold your tears and hope that there something bright and beautiful at the end of that dark tunnel!
Also don’t we all love a man in uniform whose job is to jump into fires and save lives? Being a massive Chicago PD fan gave me a predisposed love for the job, the bravery and determination they all bring with what they do.

This book broke me, put me together and gave me hope. The flow of Jewels writing is impeccable, the banter, the love the reality of having to wait after you’ve been kissed in a forever way. It just flowed & tricked like a fire and I’m am most definitely a fan now!

Thank you for trusting me with this story and letting me know I need your words in my life 🔥

I felt a lot of emotions reading this story! It was my first introduction to this author’s work and I enjoyed the tale quite a bit. Jamie and Fitz how a unique connection that just read so much like “meant to be”. There is that sort of fated quality between them that I enjoyed. It was spicy while being so emotionally gripping with tons of angst and banter and tension. I would definitely recommend this to lovers of found family, grumpy men and romance with rich backstories. The audio was also really good so I would recommend the audiobook as well. If this is what I can look forward to from the series, I’m interested to see the other stories as well.

Review: From Air was a book that was supremely hard to put down! Jewel E. Ann once again gave us a book that ticks all the angst and emotional cups I have while reading and Jamie’s story was truly one that sucked me in. From the beginning I loved how strong yet broken Jamie’s character was the one who captured my attention and she kept it up until the very end. Jewel E. Ann was able to balance the struggles, the heart, the romance and Jamie’s growth in a way that did not feel rushed but also provided all the stuff we needed!

Jamie and Calvin are also a pair that just fit. From the first time they meet you can almost feel the instant connection and as the story goes on their connection and bond only grows. I enjoyed how they had very real faults as people in this story, I know the miscommunication and trouble communicating was a huge aspect of Calvin’s story and I found that it was managed really well in this book. I liked how his secrets and the way he was afraid to be completely vulnerable was one of the things that made him a perfectly flawed MMC.

From Air was a read that stuck after finishing and I am excited to get more characters from this series. Jewel E. Ann was able to captivate me while also giving us a romance that was able to keep me surprised as events and secrets unfolded.

Rating: 4/5; From Air was another emotional rollercoaster from Jewel E. Ann and I cannot wait for more!

Review: From Air had a PHENOMENAL audiobook. Both Ada Sinclair and Nelson Hobbs were wonderful at bringing Jamie and Calvin to life and I wish I had more left to listen to! Jewel E. Ann know how to cast for the voices of her MCs and they truly emoted the stories in ways that made you feel like you were present and witnessing the romance unfold.

I felt like both of the narrators were able to envision the story and the characters they had but also meshed really well with the other narrator. Ada Sinclair sound exactly like I imagined Jamie would sound and she was able to input the ranges of emotions and vulnerability into Jamie’s story that was needed. Nelson Hobbs also did wonderful with Calvin’s POV as the tension rackets up and I enjoyed the way he was able to use the shiftiness in Calvin’s character to add an extra oomf!

This is truly a wonderful audiobook and one that I was ecstatic to have the chance to listen to. I am excited for more to come!

Rating: 5/5; An amazing audiobook that truly brought the story and characters to life!

ARC Review

Okay, maybe this book just was not right for me or maybe I tried reading it at the wrong time but this was just a 2 star read for me.

This book overall simply fell flat in general, but I was also bored for almost the entire book. It felt drawn out and way longer than necessary.

The romance aspect was fun for a bit but then that became boring too :( Also, the twist at the end was unnecessary and did not add anything to the book.

Thank you Valentine PR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

JEA gripped my heart and stole me away with this one. A grumpy firefighter providing all the banter, YES PLEASE! There is so many ups and downs in this one, so prepare yourself for a wild ride. The connection between these two is so beautiful.

I really enjoyed Fitz and Jamie‘s story. I love a grumpy man in a uniform, especially a firefighter. And Fitz? He’s a smoke jumper. Set me on fire right now! I loved their “enemy” banter and how their relationship developed. It was a slow build with intense attraction to each other. I really liked how their love story place didn’t develop quickly. Their story spanned many months which made it even more real. They go through a lot together, the ups and downs are pretty intense at times. It almost seems impossible that they will get their HEA. Overall it was a great read and I enjoy Jewel’s writing style.

Sit comfy, wrap yourself with a warm and fuzzy blanket, and be prepared to be amazed by this emotional yet beautiful journey. From Air is one of those remarkable stories that broke and mended my heart while feeding my soul. It's everything I didn't know I needed, even if going blind. I trust Jewel E. Ann implicitly, and, as always, she delivered an unforgettable story that shocked the system.

I love Jamie's take on life, even under dire circumstances. I also understand Fitz's need to keep control and everyone at bay. Jamie is the sunshine to Fitz's grumpiness. It's impossible not to be invested in their story. They aren't looking for love, nor "want" to need the other. But they are each other's person and share an undeniable and intense connection.

This book is an experience. I devoured it in a day while holding my breath and laughing out loud. It's filled with meaning and nuggets of wisdom about grief, healing, love, and found family. And it is all interwoven with the most spectacular banter. A top 2024 read.

Another beautiful romance story by this wonderful author. This book is full of all the best banter. It takes a talented author to write dialog instead of relying on inner thoughts and lengthy descriptions. Jewel manages to do both with perfection. A temporary travel nurse and a hotshot smoke jumper who are instantly attracted to each other find a friendship in each other which eventually leads to more. Loved this emotional journey of two people who didn't want permanence but find the one who might make them rethink staying and trying to make it work.

Review: I don't even know where to begin. Jewel once again continues to cemement herself as one of my top favorite authors who will always be a one-click author. She has such unique gift that you just can't put her books down! This one was no different!

Jaymes Andrews aka Jamie is a traveling nurse who just moved to Missoula, Montana. Calvin Fitzgerald aka Fitz is a Smoke Jumper. The two become roomates and let the fun begin! I loved the banter between these two soo much. I felt such a connection to Jamie! I would be just like her sitting there poking the bear.🤣 I loved it! But I also loved the deep connection these two had and how they could help one another to heal and grow.

“Jaymes, if I were normal, I’d love you enough. The problem is, I’m not normal, so I’d love you too much.”

I mean, come on!🥹 It's so hard to put into words how much you love a book in fear you just won't do it justice. Regardless, READ IT! I promise! Jewel's books are true magic! She will always take you on an incredible journey! She has the best twists you didn't see coming. If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry and swoon all at once, From Air is the one. Jewel has once again proven why she's a master of contemporary romance. Highly recommend to anyone who loves an unforgettable love story!

My tear ducts are empty. I can't begin to say how many times I had to put my Kindle down to wipe the tears from my eyes. Jewel E. Ann has a way with words and an eloquence that sucks me into the story from the very first page. This story follows Jaymes "Jamie" Andrews, a traveling psych nurse and Calvin "Fitz" Fitzgerald, a smoke jumper. Jamie's and Fitz's story touched my heart in so many ways. It broke me and put me back together.

Jamie and Fitz have in common tragic pasts that affected them in different ways. Jamie was sunshine personified, bringing light to grumpy Fitz, and he didn't stand a chance. The banter with these two was EVERYTHING! They either had me laughing out loud or tearing the F up.

I loved it when Jamie and Fitz fell into lust with each other. The spice was chef's kiss, and their chemistry was explosive. While keeping it casual was the plan, their kindred spirits begged for more. There were so many layers to peel from both of them, and my emotions were in overload.

I loved the found family dynamic. Both Jamie and Fitz had great friends who had their back.

From Air had the perfect blend of humor, found family and grief with healing. It was such a satisfying story that I definitely recommend.

Jewel E. Ann's ability to weave complex stories that break us and eventually rehabilitate us is just MIND-BLOWING...and then comes the book hangover (insert cry face). I cannot tell you how many book hangovers I've had from JEA books, but I keep on going back and I want every newsletter, every ARC, every contest, you name it!
From Air is the mix of grumpy, aloof, and secretive firefighter MMC with a sunshine, inquisitive, and younger psychiatric travel nurse FMC. From banter and the build up to Calvin and Jamie's hook up...to the bombshell dropping and flipping crazy angst, I was nose deep into the book and not letting go until I got down to the bottom of it! I am consistently flummoxed by how JEA is able to write able characters who somehow have interesting intersecting pasts that collide and threaten to smother a relationship.
I find that one big theme in her writing is forgiveness...it is integral in being able to move on and reach her couple's HEA...integral in being able to advance PERIOD!

Oh goodness, I loved From Air. Jamie and Fitz were everything. The side characters are amazing. The twists of fate were a bit unbelievable, but I didn’t mind. I laughed with this book as much as I cried. The story flowed easily and the plot moved organically. It was simply so good.

I received a copy of From Air from NetGalley. I am leaving my review voluntarily.

Heartfelt romance, witty banter, and excellent storytelling. Calvin and Jaymes have such a great on-page chemistry! It was sexy and swoonworthy at the same time! This story balances heavier themes of grief and loss, with humor , wit and plot twists, and I think it was just a really beautiful love story. I cannot wait for Maren's story!

HAPPY PUB DAY TO JAMIE AND CALVIN!!

I read this ARC on the plane and I was grinning ( and gasping) so much the two women on either side of me kept sneaking peeks at what I was reading 😆

Jewel never disappoints in creating the most delicious tension and banter.

Not to mention the plot twists I did not see coming.

I’ve never read a book with a smoke jumper in it, so I was highly curious about the aspects of Calvin’s job. I loved him and Jaymes together and the tattoo’s 🫠🥹

I also loved how grumpy Calvin was but calls Jaymes his person 😭

So so good.

“As long as she’s on this earth, the distance between us will never be enough for me not to feel her, not to want her.”

My FUCKING heart!!! This book wrecked me in the best way possible and I already want to re-read it. The hardest thing about writing a review for a book you love is capturing all your feelings in a way that would convince other readers to pick up the book. And all I’ve got to say is JUST DO IT!! You won’t regret this story and all the ways it will make you fall in love.

“A woman’s heart is woven from equal parts strength and vulnerability. Its love knows no boundaries. But it demands accountability. I’ll never ask Fitz why he broke my heart. I’ll simply insist upon him acknowledging that he did it.”

Jaymes and Fitz’s romance is full of hilarious banter and so many moments of secondhand embarrassment, but it is also full of so many emotions that my heart didn’t know if it would survive. You just can’t help but become invested in the road to get to their happily ever after, it’s hard fought and full of moments of absolute heartbreak but it is so worth it to see it all unfold. Fitz had guarded his heart after suffering an unthinkable loss yet Jaymes got under his skin and showed him there was more than one road to live his life. I loved watching them realize it was more than infatuation with each other and that they had both found their person. It was fate that brought them together but it was hard fought truths, mixed with tears and love that gave them something to fight for. The way Jewel is able to convey an absolutely profound love story with her words, there is truly nothing like experiencing a story from her!

“Jaymes isn’t the girl of my dreams. I never allowed myself that luxury. She’s the girl who has taught me how to dream.”

This book was just amazing. It had my attention from the first few pages till the end. It was easy flowing and captivating. I fell in love with the characters and was fully invested in their story. I liked that the author gave enough details about the side characters to bring them alive instead of them being briefly mentioned. The book was a great mix of romance and unexpected mystery. Another great book by Jewel E Ann. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

I am OBSESSED. From Air by Jewel has found it’s place on my “life changing reads” shelf. The story was so emotional, so captivating, and so heartbreakingly beautiful with a HEA that is SO satisfying.

Jewel E Ann has quickly become a favorite author of mine. The way she writes draws you in right from chapter one, and keeps you wanting more. I couldn’t put this book down. Jewel’s writing is unreal! Think Nicholas Sparks, with a dash of tasteful spice thrown in the mix. Her stories are emotional with happily ever afters that take you on the biggest emotional rollercoaster while reading. Jewel makes sure you FEEL all the FEELS.

”𝙈𝙮 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣.”

Jaymes a Florida native wanting to spread her wings, takes a (temp) mental health nursing position all the way in Montana. She moves in with 3 roommates who happen to all work in the “saving lives” industry. Will, and engine chief for the local fire department, Maren an air tanker pilot and Calvin Fitzgerald, the grumpy, committed to being single his entire life, smoke jumper. Jaimie quickly makes herself part of the crew and her wit and confidence is out of this world! (I wanna be her one day.🥹) I absolutely LOVED the banter between Fitz and Jaymes…Honestly some of the best banter I’ve ever read!‼️ The banter turns sexy, and the ANGST?! Ohmygawd…😮‍💨🫠 The will they, or won’t they tension is CODE RED but with a house rule of no sleeping with the other roommates, Jaymes and Fitz need to navigate whatever is between them very carefully.

“𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧’𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙜𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙪𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚.”

I won’t say too much more, because the twists and turns this story takes are jaw dropping! SO much happens and I literally messaged Jewel at the dreaded “80% -third act-problem part” and pleaded with her to confirm that the book did in fact end with a HEA… (it does by the way🥲)

“𝙅𝙖𝙮𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙬𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙄’𝙫𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙛 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧, 𝙄 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙𝙣’𝙩 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙖 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜.”

Thank you so much to Jewel and Valentine PR for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Infinity stars!!
