Wow this one was an emotional whirlwind but it also had my giggling and kicking my feet in the air! The humor between them was absolutely hilarious, the story, in pure Jewel E Ann fashion, was twisted and unexpected, and the characters were complicated, broody, and eventually healing <3 would definitely recommend.
The thing about this author is she is going to expertly make my heart so happy, yet simultaneously make it hurt. Jaymes and Fitz's love story did just that. I feel like I reached my highest highs and lowest lows in this book. She's so great at adding so much dimension and emotions into books, and by the end I was beyond healed.
Jaymes is a traveling nurse who rents a room from a group of firefighter friends in Montana. The grumpiest of them, Calvin Fitzgerald, is a smoke jumper who risks his life with every wildfire job he goes on. But that's not why he's a grump. That's much deeper, and gets told slowly throughout the story as Jaymes peels away all of his layers.
He’s an earthquake— a force of nature. And I don’t stand a chance of surviving him.
She's such a bright ray of sunshine for this wily group of friends and does her best to engage each of them in meaningful ways. With Fitz she finds he's easy to tease and banter with. They throw insults back and forth so easily, and soon enough those interactions turn flirtatious.
When Jaymes and Fitz start falling into lust with one another it's beautiful. Two shattered hearts finding solace in one another? Sign me up! They're reluctant to show their true feelings, hesitant to put their heart on the line in any real way, and yet they can't help but feel the tug on that string that's drawing them together. They're soulmates, best friends, kindred spirits, and yet they stumble their way through finding and keeping love.
This book was so beautifully written, and I'd happily read more books by this author, or in this series.
This was the first book I have read by this author and there's a lot of 5 star reviews out there, but I dunno clearly something didn't click for me. Can i pinpoint that feeling exactly? Not really.
This is about a challenging love story between a travelling psychiatric nurse and a firefighter (and him jumping out of planes to do so!? I did not know that was a thing!).
There is a banter between our main characters and they are both as equally flawed as eachother, with some tragic events in their backstories.
There's a twist in the second half and whilst it furthers the plot it didn't make me want to root for the characters to be together.
It was an ok read but I didn't find myself attached to anyone in any capacity.
One work: crack
This was so good.
I love books with jobs we don’t see often enough. Especially blue collar men.
Calvin: smoke jumper
Jaymes: traveling nurse
Grumpy x sunshine
And oh my god. The banter in this book. 🔥
Pure 🔥
Ten year age gap. I like it.
Roommates/enemies to lovers.
Found family
And the tragic pasts. Dear god. My emotions were up and down. I feel like I went from cackling to jaw drop shattering.

Traveling psychiatric nurse Jaymes Andrews takes a job in Montana and moves in with a group of people, one being the smoke jumper Calvin Fitzgerald. These two begin to grow close, despite the rules of the house rule against it, their banter and friendship growing into something much bigger.
Calvin " Fitz" Fitzgerald Fitz is a 35-year old firejumper who puts his life at risk each day fighting the wildfires. He is pretty much married to his job each season. Jayme is drawn to him for some reason, and watching their relationship develop, despite the house rules was great to see. The once enemies, turned friends turning into so much more than either expected.
These two seemed to have just an instant chemistry and their attraction to each other seemed to just burn with intensity. But we watched as there was an attraction that slowly turns into a connection, which I loved watching develop. I love a good enemies to lovers story, but add in the angst and trauma and this is one right up my alley.
I think what made this book a lot more enjoyable to read for me is the banter. Not only the banter between Fritz and Jaymes but the roommates as well. This helped balance the story with the emotional and heartfelt moments.
Overall another great book from Jewel and a great start to a new series,
This book was phenomenal right from the very first line! IYKYK
Jewel E Ann is becoming an auto buy and top author for me! I have loved everything I’ve read by her so far. Her writing is captivating and the banter, tension and chemistry with the characters are unmatched.
Jaymes is a traveling nurse and rents a room with 3 firefighters in Montana, and a house rule is no roomie hookups. Fitz is a grumpy smoke jumper ( 🥵). Their banter was top notch and had me giggling and kicking my feet, I just loved it so much. They were so quick witted with each other with so many inside jokes that were referenced throughout the book perfectly. They had so much sexual tension and off the charts chemistry I couldn’t put it down.
Both of them have amazing character growth after sorting through trauma from their past and how it all came together was so unexpected, but just fit. There were twists being revealed and so many invisible strings bringing them together. I loved this book, the characters and the banter so much! Highly recommend reading when it releases!
Thank you for the ARC!

The emotional turmoil this book has put me through.. I am completely wrecked, but I also think I might have found a new top read of the year.
JEA writes about trauma, grief and healing so incredibly well. Plus her ability to portray the chemistry between characters through her writing continues to astound me. I loved the concept of “my person” that carried throughout the story.
The book had the best banter, angst and the most beautiful relationships between not only Fitz and Jamie, but all the roommates. I’m so keen to dive in to book 2 and read Maren’s story.
I absolutely loved how there was the element of mystery amongst the romance. I was not ready for it and my jaw was completely on the floor.

I was going to start this review saying I'm on fire but that isn't entirely true. I'm drowning. Drowning in my emotions, burning up with passion, and desperately gulping in air. Jewel E. Ann has once again destroyed the souls of her readers with a hero worth saving.
Calvin Fitzgerald is an enigma. Jaymes is only here for awhile but even she knows there's something about this man. Together, they light sparklers with their banter. They smolder with tension. The become pure white hot flames. But fire needs air and smoke can do more than burn your eyes- it can smother the flames...if you let it.
Don't let the smoke get in your eyes. Never forget to bring the bear spray. Always love too much!

i want to preface this review by saying when i started this book i went in blind knowing nothing other than it was a firefighter romance. i sought out this arc because at an ungodly hour one night/morning i happened to stumble upon book 2 as a read now and thought “why the hell not!” lol once again not knowing what it was about aside from firefighter. this was also my first book of jewels so its very safe to say i did not go into these books thinking i was going to come out of it with a new all time favorite book or that i was going to want to kick myself in the shin for having waited so long to start one of her books however, i did 🥹
one of the most magical feelings while reading a book is knowing very early on that its going to be phenomenal and that youre going to fall hard and fast for it. this book was the most perfect blend of humor, found family, will they wont they, grief and healing. it is a beautiful strangers to best friends to lovers to “well what now?”, its a cruel right person, wrong time and the best way i can describe it is the lyrics from peter - “the goddess of timing once found us beguiling, she said she was trying, Peter, was she lying? my ribs get the feeling she did.” 😭😭 like girls prepare to HURT before jewel even THINKS about patching you all up.
i found myself kicking my feet and giggling the entire time until it just turned into puddles of tears upon tears, man i was so insanely unwell reading this and i am forever grateful i got to go bawl my eyes out like a baby in private bc the grief and emotions were SPICY and not in the fun way!!! 😭😂
“All I can do is blink. No one loves as big as Calvin Fitzgerald.”
this one out of context sentence pretty much sums up calvin as a person, he loves so big and so hard and due to his past traumas it scares the ever loving hell out of him causing him to lash out sometimes but then we have the sweet and gentle jamie who can tell that he’s nothing but all bark and no bite. she knows when to push and when to back down from her pursuit to get him out of his own head. their love story is beautiful, tragic and completely addictive from start to finish. to be loved is to be known and these two knew each other like the back of their hand seemingly from the moment they met.
one of the things i find really cool about this story is the jobs everyone holds, when i went in thinking this was most likely another small town firefighter romance the last thing i was expecting was calvin being a smoke jumper (it was insanely cool to learn a little bit about this job in the process of reading it), maren (roommate and books 2s fmc) was a tanker pilot - i mean how fucking cool and bad ass?!, jamie is a psychiatric nurse who while reading parts of her job i just couldnt help but hope that every patient who suffers from a mental illness has somebody like her in their corner.
i also really loved how this book didnt just take place in missoula, we hoped around all over the place and jamie really got to fulfill her wish of seeing more of the country before settling down, was it easy for her to do? god no but i really commend JEA for making sure that even though it was hard she didnt just settle for something that felt safe and she continued to go out of her comfort zone time and time again.
TLDR - this book is fucking beautiful and insanely well written and you’d be a fool not to give it a try 🤷🏼♀️
Gaaah 🫣
I have a new auto-buy author and her name is Jewel E. Ann. After reading Sunday Morning, which was an amazing book, I decided to apply for the ARC of From Air. And what can I say? It’s incredible.
This story is so angsty and there are some huge plot twists. It’s heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.
I feel like the end was a bit rushed, but otherwise it was soooo good. I can’t wait for the series to continue!

Thank you Montlake and netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am emotional and in awe!!! This book is now in my top 5 favourites of all time. When I received this book, I was not expecting the emotional rollercoaster I was put through. All the love, grief, mystery?? I was eating this book up!!! I don't know what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't to find my favourite read of 2024!!?!?!? One of my top 5 reads of all time?!? I am actually at a loss for words. This book was amazing!!!!!!!
Something about a firefighter, morally grey, mysterious MMC really did it for me. I love everything about this book! Jamie and Calvin 😭😭😭 I think that all the highs and the lows, the loss and the heartbreak they experienced in their lives happened so that they could not only eventually find each other, but also move on and heal together. Their love was truly meant to happen and despite everything, I truly, wholeheartedly believe that they are meant to be together. They needed to find each other in order to learn to love and heal.
I truly did not know where this book was headed tbh. I thought it was just going to be another romance, but it was so much more!! Along with their beautiful love story, you also get to see immense character growth within Jamie and Calvin as they individually navigate through the ups and downs of love and a battle with grief.
I am excited to read the next book in this series!! While the main focus was on Jamie and Calvin, I also loved all the side characters and I cannot wait for their books!!
EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!!! I NEED TO DISCUSS IT WITH SOMEONE 😭

holy moly i’m still processing this epic story - a true twist of fate and i’m here for every single turn!!!
A trope-y romance that's got a bit more depth than I expected. Jamie is a traveling nurse who specializes in mental health and Fitz is the grumpy firefighter she falls for. And he falls for her too. They are opposite in personality but they have similar struggles. And a crisis will change everything. I liked this for the banter, the humor, and the sensitivity. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

oh my god, this book! buckle up for the angst and emotional journey that is From Air! the emotions, the chemistry, and the twists…chef’s kiss! I love it, and I’m thoroughly obsessed.
Jewel is a new-to-me author, and I cannot emphasize how much I love her writing style. the way she structures scenes and jumps in time are so natural and never left me feeling like I was missing anything. I felt the emotional tug-of-war and depth of longing within the characters. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about the merry-go-round of will-they-won’t-they, but it was done so well, and I honestly just couldn’t put it down.
the only “complaint” (if you can even call it that) I really have is that I wanted to experience Fitz actually processing his feelings and coming to terms with everything more than we did. these occurrences are implied and lightly portrayed, but I would have loved to see a little more of it. we had to heavily rely on Jamie’s empathy and understanding to accept Fitz where he was, and that’s not a bad thing; I just know getting a bit more from him and his pov would have been even more incredible.
I really wasn’t ready to leave, so I’m very excited for Maren’s story next!

Calvin & Jamie ❤️
🏥Jamie’s a travel nurse, with her first assignment at a psychiatric hospital in Missoula. The nurse that hired her has recommended accommodation in a house share, but when she gets there, it’s not just Will, who she was expecting, but also his two roommates Maren and Calvin. Oh, and Jamie’s room happens to be the outside cabin with no bathroom.
🔥Will’s only house rule is to forbid relationships between the housemates. Despite firefighter Calvin’s very firm stance of staying single, he’s drawn inexplicably to Jamie. She’s younger than him and he just doesn’t do relationships, but there’s no telling his heart any of this.
🛬When Jamie moves on to the next assignment, she’s not expecting things to continue but maybe fate has other plans for the couple.
📚Having read a good few of Jewel E Ann’s books, one thing I do know to expect is the unexpected. This story went to a place I wasn’t expecting. So much of Calvin and Jamie’s relationship reminded me of The Naked Fisherman, but this age gap felt a bit less hectic for me! I enjoyed the twists in this story, despite how sad they are.

Beautiful. Tragic. Heartbreaking. Quirky. Emotional. Captivating. Mind-blowing. Hilarious. Incredible.
Those are some words to describe this book.
This is the second book by Jewel that I’ve read so far and just like Sunday Morning, this book is captivating, beautiful, emotional and has so much depth.
Jewel is an incredible writer and Sunday Morning is one of my fave reads for this year so I had high expectations for this book and this book did not disappoint.
I cannot wait to read more by Jewel.
Reading about and learning about and experiencing the metamorphosis of Jamie and Fitz and their relationship, was truly enjoyable and enthralling.
I see myself re-reading this!
I highly recommend this!
Thank you NetGalley, Montlake and Jewel E. Ann for giving me an ARC of this incredible book.
**Top Read of 2024**
I don't have enough words to articulate my love for this book, it's absolutely mind-blowing. The story, the characters, the world—I'm completely hooked and can't stop thinking about them. It's incredibly addictive. SPECTACULAR!
Jamie and Fitz stole my heart from the first pages, Jamie is a fierce and sassy heroine, and Fitz is my grumpy damaged hero that you can't help but love. This couple is EVERYTHING, I LOVE THEM, their banter is off the charts, they made me laugh out loud, their electrifying chemistry is scorching hot, I adore them together and their deep and intense connection. The author doesn't make it easy for them, though, and their story is packed with angst. They broke my heart, but their story is heartbreakingly beautiful.
As always, this author includes unexpected twists that kept me on the edge of my seat, and it made it impossible to put the book down. I also love the emphasis on the found family trope and the endearing bonds formed between friends.
Jewel E. Ann never ceases to amaze me. Her talent is unmatched, and her books always evoke the deepest emotions in me. "From Air" is no exception—it's moving, unique, passionate, and emotional. It's everything I love in a romance. BRILLIANT! I'm obsessed and can't wait for more from this world. Get ready for a ride that will captivate all your senses and leave you breathless. A standing ovation for the author!

𝐎𝐡 my goodness, this story is full of witty banter and just the right amount of emotional turmoil. I can't get enough of Jewel E Ann's books; they're addictive and never fail to impress.
𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐞, a traveling nurse, finds herself falling for her grumpy roommate, Calvin Fitzgerald "Fitz." Despite his guarded nature, Fitz can't help but be drawn to Jamie's infectious spirit. Their contrasting approaches to dealing with their past traumas make for an incredible story. As much as Jamie was all sunshine and rainbows, she had a difficult life that eventually catches up with her. Witnessing their love story unfold is both fascinating and heart-wrenching as their pasts threaten to tear them apart.
𝐉𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐥 𝐄. 𝐀𝐧𝐧 really knows how to take readers on an emotional rollercoaster. "From Air" is a must-read for those who enjoy a romance with angst and good humor.
Thank you to Montlake for the ARC of this book! Overall, I really enjoyed it and it was a quick read. The story is set in Montana which I always enjoy. It is definitely a love story but there are some darker themes that are reminiscent of authors like Colleen Hoover, Jennifer Hartmann, Mia Sheridan and similar. You would likely enjoy this book if you enjoy those authors. It started a little slow for me but I felt like the ending was worth it. The main characters had some personal development that I enjoyed reading about and though they were an unlikely match, it felt like they were compatible. 4 stars for me!
This booooook, buckle UP! The author managed to perfectly balance flirty banter, emotion, angst, and heat flawlessly. I love when the MCs desperately try NOT to want each other but end up failing spectacularly. I loved every moment of Jamie and Fitz. I loved the side characters. I just fully loved this book.
