Opposites attract in From Air. Jamie is virtually alone in the world and craves to belong, and Calvin seems to have no desire for any connections in life. But somehow this unlikely pair makes a connection.
There are very few authors who hit me in the feels as much as Jewel E. Ann does and actually have me highlighting parts of the book. These are just some of my favorite quotes:
“I ground him. And he makes me soar.”
“Jaymes isn’t the girl of my dreams. I never allowed myself that luxury. She’s the girl who has taught me how to dream.”
“…you’ll have to excuse me if I’m trying really hard not to need anyone. You, of all people, should understand that. However, I’m not like you. I’m not good at it. Because deep down, I do need people in my life who worry about me, who check in on me, who would feel a little empty inside if I died.”
Swoon. I loved that Jamie knew what she wanted, and she didn’t sacrifice what she wanted for Calvin. I love a strong woman! I’m so glad this is part of a series and I’ll get to see more of Jamie and Calvin, as well as their roommates, in future books.
From Air by Jewel E. Ann
This book is phenomenal. This is my first book by Jewel and it will definitely not be my last. An emotional rollercoaster but the BEST kind.
This story is heart wrenching, heart warming, has the absolute best banter I think I have ever read, had my squealing one chapter and crying the next.
The story was beautiful and so unique but I felt a connection with all the characters. I adored the FMC Jaymes, our spunky travel nurse with the best one liners — she is so dang witty and fun her character really pulled me right in AND the MMC Fitz… oh Fitz…. Grumpy, fire jumper who feels like he is unable to give Jaymes what she truly deserves. His character broke me and put me back together again. I loved him so much. 🥹🥹🥹
Their story is one of a kind, their connection is unmatched and the chemistry between them is undeniable. 🤭
Jewel’s writing style is truly poetic, I devoured this book— like could not get enough of it. I highly recommend you add this masterpiece to your TBR ♥️

Thank you so much Jewel and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this as an ARC for my honest opinion and review!
“ love you, Fitzy.” — I only see the side of his face, half of his ginormous grin. “I know you do.” — I don’t know why I expect any other answer. “And you love me.” — “Too much.” — Our love is magic.
Okayyyy Jewel, just rising to the top of my favorite authors after reading only two books 😩 If you want another book that’ll make you cry, welp here it is! From Air is freaking beautiful and insanely well-written. Jewel is one of the very few authors that I’ve read that can combine drama and rom-com all in one, and do it so so well. The banter throughout had me giggling while my heart was aching with so many emotions towards the end. A story full of love, grief, friendship, healing and forgiveness. Fitz loves so big and so hard but because of his past it absolutely terrifies him. So he’s vowed to be alone forever and 100% committed to his job. Did we mention he’s a smokejumper? 🥵 And Jamie, a nurse, a psychiatric nurse at that, wants to fix everyone and makes fixing Fitz her mission. “He’s my person… she’s my person.” Jaymes and Calvin were truly made for each other. Mel, Will, Maren, grandma, Gary, Evette, I loved them all. This is a book I want to read for the first time all over again.
Read this book IMMEDIATELYYYYTY (or when it releases on November 26th) if you love firefighters, age gap, forced proximity, tragic pasts, third act breakups, strangers to roommates to lovers. Thank you to Jewel E. Ann and Valentine PR for an ARC 🤍
Shout out to this book for getting me out of my reading slump!! The last two books I picked up were DNFers so this Jewel of a book (punny yes I know) was just what I needed! I mean can Ms. Ann do any wrong in the romance book world? The answer is nope, no she can’t! This book was the perfect combination of witty, sweet and spicy and my only complaint is was that it had to end!
After Jamie’s mom passed, she decided to become a travel nurse so she can see the world outside Miami. When she moves into a house with three roommates, of course she’s attracted to the grumpy closed off one. With her speciality in psychiatry, she can’t help but want to figure Calvin out. Calvin has a dark past that makes him want zero ties to anyone. Will he alter his view on relationships once Jamie enters his realm? Especially after they both learn she also has a dark past? You can find out next week when this book drops!!!
♾️ freaking phenomenal
I don’t have the words to explain my love of this book. The banter, the wit, the roommates, the heartache, the healing, freaking all of it. This was such an incredible roller coaster of emotions. I laughed as hard as I cried. I hurt as much as I loved.
Calvin and Jamie are top freaking tier. They are so much fun, I wasn’t ready for it to be over!! I’m obsessed with all of the side characters as well and can’t wait for Maren’s book next!
Favorite Quotes:
“If he’s not careful, I might marry him.”
“But I won’t regret anything. This love is worth the pain.”
“I will love you like a hero. Jump without looking back. I will fight for you. I will save us.”
Was SO excited to have this ARC land on my Netgalley shelf. Jewel E Ann could write a product manual and I’d love it at this point. I’ll skip the tropes as we all know I love to go in blind when I start a book. This was just the right amount of angsty goodness I needed and you could feel the chemistry come alive on the pages. It also had the perfect blend of banter and humour to balance out the heavy stuff. .

Oh my goodness! This was one of those reads where I just knew it was destined for 5⭐️’s from the beginning, but then it just got better and better as it went, and jumped right into the category of a favorite read of the year. 🥰
I mean, just going back and looking at all my highlights had me tearing up all over again! 😭
The romance was so beautiful between the two MCs. From the “forbidden” aspect, to the tension, to the amaaaazing banter between the two (I was seriously laughing so much!! Truly top tier banter!) Fitz’s pain is so real and complicated, and Jamie is soooo patient. But then, when things got all 😱🤯 in the latter parts of the book?? Oh, the pain and love and all of it just jumped off the page!
Seriously, I was expecting the romance, but the INTRIGUE?? Holy smokes! (Pun intended.) I literally *gasped*!
After two 5⭐️ reads, Jewel E. Ann has quickly become a new favorite author of mine, and I cannot wait to dive into her other books!
Thank you to Jewel E. Ann and @valentine_pr_ for providing me an early copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Traveling nurse Jaymes takes a job in Montana and ends up moving into a house full of firefighters—talk about a setup for sparks to fly! This book surprised me with its light and funny start, filled with great banter that had me laughing. While the characters fall for each other quickly, the forbidden romance aspect gives it a slow-burn feel in parts, keeping the tension alive.
Being a Jewel E. Ann book, I expected some emotional twists, and wow, the ending delivered. I was hooked from start to finish, eager to see how the characters would navigate their pasts and find their way forward. A perfect mix of humor, heart, and heat!
4.5 stars
I absolutely love this authors characters and their banter. I can never get enough of it and this book was no different. It had me smiling while reading for sure. And of course there is the emotional aspect of the story. I fell for both of these characters right away and was hooked.
Jaymes is a traveling nurse that wants to see the world. Fitz is the broody new roommate that is closed off to everyone. This story is grumpy/sunshine at its finest. I love when the guy falls hard before he understands his feelings. Makes me seriously so giddy. Emotionally they both went through so many things and in true Jewel fashion she had my blood pressure up from the angst.
The only reason I didn’t give this five stars is the time lapse at the end. To me that makes it seem a little rushed but it still didn’t take away from my love for these characters.
Jewel E. Ann always knows how to hit a home run with each new read she delivers. From Air is the first book in a new series, Wildfire, and it is a story that is emotional, funny, and sweet all wrapped in this page turner that can't be put down. First, we have Calvin Fitzgerald, a broody fireman that tries to keep to himself, then there is Jaymes Andrews, a nurse who is seeking her own adventure away from home, and finally we get to watch these two and their slow burn of a relationship develop over time. Their chemistry sparks when they are together but as always everything can't be picture perfect, and Ms. Ann loves to throw us readers twists and turns like we never expected. Be ready for the read of your lives from this author, for the sweet giggles, the emotional teardrops and the big grin we always love to have at the end of a good read. I can't wait for the next book in this series!
This was my first book by Jewel E. Ann and it will not be my last. The amount of banter, tension, and emotion in this book was nothing short of incredible. The plot twist was incredible and had me sitting here with my jaw on the floor. The connection between Calvin and Jamie had me hooked. They were perfect together.
Thank you so much to Valentine PR and Jewel E. Ann for this ARC.
This was my first introduction to Jewel E. Ann’s books, and I believe it was a very successful experience. I enjoyed the humor, the chemistry between the characters, the dual POV, and the brilliant plot with a perfectly timed reveal of the main twist. I especially loved how I managed to predict what would happen next, but only “a moment” before the main character realized it. The description of the heroine’s first flight experience truly struck a chord, as it captured all the emotions I felt when I flew for the first time this year.
This story follows Jamie, a psychiatric nurse searching for her place in the world, and Calvin — a grumpy, mysterious smokejumper with a traumatic past. Whom fate brought together to heal their wounded hearts.
I recommend this book to everyone who loves Nora Roberts’ Chasing Fire, which also features smokejumpers, as well as to fans of the firefighter movie Only the Brave, based on true events.
Tropes:
- traveling nurse & firefighter (smokejumper)
- grumpy & sunshine
- roommates to lovers
- forced proximity
- roommates
- age gap (he’s 35, she’s 25)
- friends with benefits
- found family
- open door
- dual POV
I can’t wait to read the next books in the series about other characters.
Jewel E Ann has never written anything less than a five star read. The way she builds chemistry, tension, and love between her characters has me at the end of my seat waiting for them to get together. Fitz and Jamie were no different. Their entire relationship is built on THE best banter, and I was entranced immediately in the enigma that is Calvin Fitzgerald. I loved the firefighter/nurse storyline here, especially as a nurse that jokes about this kind of relationship often. I also loved the found family of Will, Maren, and Mel, and how they all rib each other so much. It’s so relatable to all of my closest friendships, and it made me feel like I was reading about my friend group. These characters are so real and relatable all around, and I love these two together so much.
Jewel E Ann can not write a bad book - I am convinced. While I’ve only read two of her books so far, they have both been amazing. “From Air” is astounding. Jaymes and Calvin’s story is full of banter, friendship, love, heartache, and so much more. This book made me laugh, angry, sad, and even cry. I promise you that if you read this book you will not regret it.
“Our love is Magic” ✨🥹🫶🏻
This was my first Jewel E Ann book. She’s been on my TBR because I find most of her covers are gorgeous so I needed to check them out.
This book was absolutely phenomenal. It’s been a while since I’ve felt this engrossed in a story. The writing was beautiful- I lost count of how many highlights I made but there were so many parts I felt I needed to remember.
I loved everything about Jaymes and Fitz. Their banter was so on point and I loved how so many of their jokes continued throughout the whole book. The spice was perfect and didn’t take away from the story.
I was NOT expecting the plot twist. It was so well done. The end had me in tears. I feel like I could start over right now and be just as in love reading it a second time.
From Air is an emotional love story between Jaime and Fitz. She's a travel nurse on assignment in Montana and Fitz is a smoke jumper and one of he roommates. They have an instant attraction towards each other but fight it. They become friends and each other's person. That soon moves to more but neither wants to admit it's more than a physical relationship. Both have lots of family trauma and to heal from but can they? Will they be able to be together and love the other and themselves as they want?
This was addicting.
Once I started- I couldn’t stop.
The banter and tension was everything- this was emotional and so heartfelt but had amazing moments of lightness and laughter.
This was my first Jewel book but it will certainly not be my last
From Air is an emotional and beautiful love story. If you’ve read anything by Jewel E. Ann then you know to expect this. My feelings were all over the place, laughing, crying tears of both sadness and happiness.
What Calvin(Fitz) went through with what happened to his family was heartbreaking, I totally get how he acts.
Jamie had her own heartbreaking story and it even got worse, you’ll know when you get to that part. So two broken people that come together and heal each other’s hearts.
This is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year.
5 ⭐ 3 🌶️
That was so dang good. This was my first time reading Jewel, but it absolutely won't be my last. This was everything I was expecting from her; heartbreaking, angsty and beautiful. My heart was aching so hard for these characters and at one point I wasn't sure they were going to make it work, but they did and it was wonderful.
I really loved how Jaymes and Calvin's relationship progressed. The beginning of this story was so fun and filled with banter and casual spicy times, but it had this hint of darkness that kept you wondering... Then things started to come out and pieces started getting put together and my jaw started dropping. I was so engrossed and couldn't out it down as I waited for these two to figure out what to do with their love and their lives...
I'm so excited for the rest of this series. Maren is up next and I can't wait to see what Jewel has in store for her.
Absolutely loved this one — no notes. Another 5 star read from Jewel, just when I think she won’t be able to outdo herself, she proves me wrong!
