After being jilted at Christmas, Sophie decides the festive period is not for her. She arranges an alternative retreat at her hotel for people who want to escape the usual Christmas trimmings. An eclectic mix of visitors, plus neighbour Brody, makes for a Christmas Sophie will never forget.
A lovely feel-good read, I loved the variety of events and experiences Sophie held - it sounded like a lot of fun! Easy to read, with great characterisation, made for a perfect festive story.
Escape for Christmas is a warm cosy hug of a book. Sweet, heartwarming and festive. I loved it. Phillipa Ashley never disappoints.
Sophie runs a delightful hotel in the lakes and she's running an alternative stay over Christmas for people wanting to escape tinsel, turkey and carols around the fireplace. Although I love everything about Christmas I can imagine this being a very popular way to spend the festive season, escaping all of the traditional side. One day I'd love to spend Christmas by the sea and the whole idea of an alternative stay really made me stop and think!
I always love Phillipa Ashleys books- always great stories, wonderful characters and such a lovely writing style that you know you will be relaxing into the pages as soon as you pick this one up.
A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable. The plot is one that is engaging and I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.
I try not to judge a book by its cover, but the front cover of Escape for Christmas is so gorgeous and wintery it’s impossible not to be enticed by it. Luckily the content is fabulously festive as well. It’s not my favourite Christmas read, however it’s still a lovely book full of great characters and a decent storyline with a few twists and turns and surprises along the way.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book through NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone, which did not influence my unbiased and honest review of the book.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.
This was the perfect sweet and cozy read that I needed for December. I had such a soft spot for Sophie and Brody is just a sweetheart! You find yourself rooting for them throughout the book. The writing is filled with good descriptions. This is the exact type of town I would love to escape to for a while as well.
Sophie is so smart and I loved her marketing idea for Escape for Christmas. Teagan annoyed me quite a bit.
I cringed at the miscommunication a bit but I appreciate that it is part of what makes the story so good.
Love the names Jingle and Bell for Sophie's cats.
Overall, I loved this cozy read. It was light and perfect to snuggle up to while diving into the world of Sunnyside/Bannerdale. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy Christmas read.
A perfect Christmas read to get you in the festive mood. Lovely setting in the Lake District, very Christmassy and romatic storyline.
Really enjoyed and would recommend to anyone wanting a nice easy Christmas festive novel.
I’m still very much in my festive read era- anything that can make me feel warm and fuzzy and this one was exactly that - I loved all of the characters and this not being your traditional read also, really recommend curling up with this over the festive period 4 stars from me 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I really enjoyed this festive read about Sophie who has moved to the lakes to open a hotel. Sophie finally takes the plunge after leaving her former life running a Christmas themed business when she catches her boyfriend cheating on her.
She’s dreading Christmas and thinks others might do too so offers a break at her hotel that’s an ‘not a Christmas’ break.
Along the way she meets the vet and neighbour Brody, he’s kind and friendly and they quickly become friends.
A fun alternative to a Christmas read.
I really enjoyed it! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review
Sophie was always a fan of Christmas until that fateful day when it all went wrong and her fiancé hilted her. From them on, December was never about Christmas and became a bid to avoid anything festive.
Opening a guesthouse in the countryside, means she can spend it how she wants and what better way then offering a non Christmas break. It will be full of joy and fun but not the festive kind. With an interesting mix of guests, it proves to be an interesting time, especially when snow arrives and the power goes out.
There is nothing for it, but to beg on the hospitality of her neighbour, local neighbour and vet Brody, but his is a full on Christmas and it seems his fiancée has some ideas of her own too.
Another excellent Christmas read from this author with plenty of laughs and tears along the way. If you are feeling less Christmassy then this might be the perfect escape.
Sophie used to adore everything about Christmas. Hot chocolate and velvet bows, fairy lights and mince pies.
Until the December her fiancé jilted her.
Since then, Sophie opened Sunnyside Hotel, a quaint guesthouse nestled deep in the Cumbrian countryside.
And, though it might be winter at Sunnyside, it’s never Christmas.
I really enjoyed this book, another great Christmas read from Phillipa Ashley, and one that I have recommended to friends.
I really enjoyed this festive read about Sophie, who has opened a hotel in the Lake District after finding her fiancé with her best friend.
Sophie decides to run a special anti-Christmas break during the holidays.
This is a heart warming read as she becomes closer to Brody, the local vet.

Such a fun and cozy read just want I needed before Christmas and to help me get over the gloom of being sick for the past week.
Oh Phillipa Ashley you have done it again. There are my go to authors. Ones I know I can point to on the shelf and love every novel they write. Phillipa Ashley is certainly up there with my tip top list.
Her stories are always warm and cozy. But never boring or samie.
Phillipa's Cornish series was extremely prominent and cherished in my life. It was my little saviour at the time. And since then I have a hit of extra hit if warmth when I know she has a new book. So I feel extra privileged to get this one.
The characters once again we completely lovable.
I found it such a original idea to have a hotel at Christmas that does not celebrate. It had me googleing whether such places exist.
A really enjoyable story set in the Lake District surrounded by snowy mountains and lots of festive cheer. This story was unusual as Sophie opened a hotel which didn't have a Christmas theme as shed just ended a bad relationship around Christmas. I found this so relaxing and easy a lovely book for this time of year. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Really enjoyed and woulkd recommend to anyone wanting a nice easy Christmas festive novel.
Sophie used to love every single thing about Christmas, that was until her fiancé jilted her one December. She decides to fulfill her dream of running a guest house in Cumbria. A lovely feel good read.
Adore this author! Sophie relocated to a beautiful area in the Fells, and a guest house called Sunnyside as a new business, following a shock breakup
with her fiancé. She has loved everything about Christmas up to that point, and even ran a shop which was all about Christmas, but it is now ruined.. She makes friends with the locals and a certain handsome vet called Brody is on her mind more than anyone else! Then she has a shock from him when she discovers that he has a fiancée and she’s arrived to spend Christmas with him! She can’t dwell though, as she has a house full of guests to celebrate her unchristmas celebrations !! As only Phillipa can do, the story surrounds you and I fell in love with all the characters. There were a few comical moments that made me laugh. It was brilliant!!
Another lovely read. Sophie now runs a guest house in the Lake district, but having found her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend. She sells her Christmas shop and moves north. She buys a guest house and the first Christmas she runs a break that is not really Christmas.
Its a lovely read which I really enjoyed and can recommend
