I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Moriarty has found a unique and refreshing way of telling a thriller. We start by knowing Harriet is dying and in her last moments she recounts her relationships and past events to uncover who has killed her.
There are plenty of suspects which helped add to the intrigue and plenty of secrets and twists to uncover. I was hooked with this and kept myself reading to uncover what would happen next. It helps that Moriarty's characters are very strong too. Overall I really enjoyed this refreshing read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Michael Joseph for an advance copy.
It’s impossible to say no to Harriet, but someone has finally snapped and as she lies dying, she is determined to figure out who killed her
There’s a whole list of suspects - her husband, her best friend/lover or a new school friend
The story had points of view from every suspect leading up to the night of Harriet’s death - who finally snapped?
A twisty tale of envy, obsession, revenge and suspense
A fast paced drama about adults behaving badly - “Mean Girls” for adults
Thanks @nicolamoriarty_author @penguinukbooks @netgalley for the twisty suspenseful read
I've read a few books by the author and they never disappoint and this one was not the exception.
The tale unfolds with all the people who may have wanted Harriet dead and you are left guessing as to how/why/who might have done as not one would have blamed any of them!
The blurb for this book sounded interesting but, unfortunately, I got about a third of the way through and then gave up. I really could not engage with the characters at all.
The twist that no one can saw coming!
Am absolute amazing book, that starts with Harriet fighting for her life. Someone has attacked her, and left her for dead.
Her final moments are here and Harriet is trying to work out who would do this to her and why.
When each suspect has an ulterior motive. Who actually could be.
A really good twist and turn that novel where I would eat my hat if anyone guessed the ending.
As Harriet lies dying, after being hit on the head, she reflects on who might be the murderer so that she can leave a clue. It turns out there are quite a few suspects! The novel details each character and their history and movements leading up to Harriet’s birthday party. It’s a gripping, fast paced read as you try to work out who the murderer is. It kept my interest from start to finish and the reveal didn’t disappoint. Highly recommended.
It took me a little while to get into this book but then I was quite hooked and finished it quickly. I like the approach of getting to know the jndovidual characters and their perspectives. Now I found some characters unlikeable which made it hard to connect with them but the story unravelling was engaging.
I wasn't keen on the ending, but overall enjoyed the story.
What an excellent premise for a book. As Harriet lies dying, she reflects on who would want to kill her - pretty much everyone she knows. It’s a fun read to explore her toxic relationships as she relates them and to deduce who might have done the deed. Unlikeable and frustrating characters make it easy to suspect each and every one but the ending is interesting. This was a great wee holiday read. Good character development and a twist in the tail at the end. Four stars from me. Thank you netgalley for an advance copy
Book Review: Every Last Suspect
I just finished Every Last Suspect by Nicola Moriarty, and I can honestly say it was a thrilling ride from start to finish. The premise grabbed me right away: Harriet, a complex and magnetic character, lies dying and is determined to uncover her murderer. I was immediately drawn into her world, filled with flawed relationships and dark secrets.
Moriarty does an exceptional job of crafting characters who are both compelling and deeply flawed. As I read, I found myself torn between loving and hating Harriet. The dynamics between her, her devoted husband, her best friend who blurs the lines of love and friendship, and a seemingly perfect school mum named Karen created a web of intrigue that kept me guessing.
The pacing of the book was spot on, with each chapter unveiling new twists that made it impossible to put down. I especially enjoyed the game of “Two Truths and a Lie,” which added a clever layer to the unfolding mystery. It perfectly encapsulated the themes of envy, obsession, and the complicated nature of friendships.
The writing flowed beautifully, and I appreciated the emotional depth that Moriarty infused into the story. The relatable experiences and vivid character portrayals made the mystery feel all the more real and engaging. Just when I thought I had it figured out, another twist would send me reeling.
The climax was exhilarating, with my heart racing as I reached the final chapters. I was left on the edge of my seat, and the ending did not disappoint. The last few sentences left me breathless and perfectly wrapped up the story.
Overall, Every Last Suspect is a captivating blend of mystery and drama that kept me hooked until the very last page. If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers that delve into the complexities of human relationships, I highly recommend this one. It’s a gripping tale that I won’t soon forget!
Harriet is dying. She knows she’s dying and that someone has tried to kill her. She decides to solve own murder so she can leave a clue before she dies. She runs through all the potential suspects. Could it be her husband, her best friend or one of the school mums? The more we find out about Harriet, the more unpleasant she seems and all the suspects have strong motive. This was an interesting concept and Harriet was a strong character that I loved to hate. A great thriller with a surprising ending. Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the review copy.
A dying woman struggles to remain conscious hoping for help to arrive. As she feels her life slip away she focuses on family and friends who could possibly have caused her fatal injuries. The clock is ticking, her life’s blood is draining as she analyses recent events leading to her catastrophic injuries. We the reader can only watch a family imploding as the train wreck of events escalate towards an unbelievable conclusion. Many thanks to author publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
A woman is found injured and almost dying and she is thinking back through her life wondering who it is who tried to kill her. I found the idea fascinating and the various characters true to life and interesting. I actually finished the book in one day. A great read
As she lies slowly dying Harriet Osman tries to figure out who would want to murder her. As we are taken through multiple characters point of view we get an insight into their relationship with Harriet and the events that lead up to the end of her life. Was it her loving husband Malek, best friend Victoria or fellow school mum Karen?
Harriet is loving but also manipulative and people are drawn to her irresistible personality. She has done some absolutely terrible things and everyone seems to have a motive to kill her.
I loved this twisty story and how much the author made me hate Harriet! I have always been a fan of a multi POV book and this was really well executed in that respect.
I was slightly disappointed with the ending, I felt we had been building to something and it just didn't hit the mark for me but it was still enjoyable.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher Michael Joseph Penguin Random House for providing me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Every Last Suspect is a speedy, read-in-one-gulp, pageturner . Do I want to read a domestic thriller set in an open marriage with lots of suspects for who may be the killer? yes and yes and yes. Some nifty subplots and red herrings to keep the momentum from start to finish.
Thoroughly enjoyed this story and the air of mystery it brought whilst you try to work out whether any of the possible people were the guilty ones!
Every Last Suspect was a really really good read and I couldn’t read it fast enough.
We meet Harriet right at the beginning of the book, she is lying on the floor somewhere, half unconscious with a wound to the back of her head. She is asking herself who has done this too her so she runs through possible culprits. This is where the book follows a suspect and the story surrounding why they could have done her harm. Meanwhile her surprise, not so surprise party for her fortieth birthday has started with no one knowing where she is or that she is missing.
This was a book where the layout worked absolutely 100%. The characters were well developed and to a certain extent all likeable, the storyline was different and I enjoyed learning the dynamics of different characters and how the main character, Harriet was seen so differently to different people. This is a 4.5 ⭐️ read for me and would recommend you give it a go.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for the Arc of Every last suspect by Nicola Moriaty.
So very clever!! I couldn’t work it out. Very easy to read and well paced. 5/5 stars.
This was an interesting whodunit although I'm a little disappointed at the ending my first read by her but I'll be sure to check out more
Not a single likeable character and yet I was addicted from start to finish! That’s the magic of a Nicola Moriarty book. I never came near to guessing what had happened and with the sort of epilogue I’m still figuring it all out. All in all a very clever plot but I would have liked to be rooting for at least one person….
Harriet lies dying and trying to work out who has killed her, so that she can leave a clue to help the police work out who her murderer is. First on her list is her husband Malek, who has never quite understood her desire for an 'open' marriage, or approved of her sleeping around but is too kind and loving to do anything about it. Then there is Karen, mother of her daughter, Farrah's best friend. She had suggested that she had slept with Karen's husband at an evening out only a couple of weeks previously. The third suspect, the one she didn't want to think about, is her best friend and sometime lover, Victoria, who believes that Harriet saved her from a police cell after she attacked a suitor one evening when they were students.
As each of the suspects tell their story of the events leading up to Harriet's fortieth birthday party and evening that led to her death, we find there are many things that Harriet didn't actually know,
The tension ramps up in this book as the backgrounds of the characters entwine and we see various events from different perspectives. It was an interesting guessing game trying to work out who had 'done it' and the reveal isn't quite what I expected.
The characters are a very mixed bunch. Harriet is seems particularly cold and self centred and yet both Malek and Victoria confess they see a much more loving side of her and she has not always been a confident person. Some of the school mothers come across as right bitches, and Karen barely escapes being lumped in with this group. Victoria is ruining Malek and Harriet's marriage and Malek is too weak to do anything about it. They are all flawed and vulnerable but uniquely human.
After a slow start the story begins to bite and I was keen to find out what happened to them all at the end, despite not liking them much. It was well written and the way of telling it was different and fresh.
With thanks to Penguin Random House and Netgalley for an arc copy in return for an honest review.
