Firstly, a big thank you to Mills & Boon and Net Galley for the ARC.
This was a 3.5 star read for me.
Sweet and Spicy queer romance ✅
Summery location ✅
Great side characters (Amanda, Ivy, Hugo, Adrian) ✅
Taking on the patriarchy and bossing it✅
There were a lot of positives about this book, however, it didn’t actually feel like there was much of a plot. It was a lot about Kya, who was a full on workaholic, letting loose and having fun after losing her job, and finding her footing again. She definitely goes through the motions of being miserable and feeling lost but Quinn sweeps in and helps her have a fun couple of weeks in Miami. And then we have Quinn who’s playing the biggest gigs of her life, and how she has to battle her nerves alongside longstanding misogyny. These aspects definitely make these characters very relatable, especially Kya.
Was this enough to carry the story? Not really. We obviously got the romance between Kya and Quinn which I thought was really lovely - they had a few hiccups, a few miscommunications, but they were resolved pretty quickly. I think the pair are a good balance for one another. They butted heads in the beginning before becoming friends… then becoming more than friends, which got me more invested I think because there was layers to the relationship.
I’m not a huge fan of third person perspective and I definitely think this story would have benefited from being told from multiple perspectives in first person.
On a positive note, we had some wonderful side characters who helped bring the story to life.
One Summer in Miami by Amber Rose Gill is a vibrant and sun-soaked romance that captures the magic and excitement of a summer getaway. Gill paints a vivid picture of Miami's lively atmosphere, setting the stage for a story filled with fun, flirtation, and self-discovery. The characters are charismatic and relatable, each navigating personal growth and the allure of a summer romance. With its blend of humor, warmth, and emotional depth, the novel explores themes of friendship, love, and the unexpected turns life can take. One Summer in Miami is an uplifting and breezy read, perfect for anyone craving a story that feels like a warm, sandy escape.
Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me and I did not finish.. The pace was too slow for my preference and I didn't feel any chemistry or sizzle between our main characters. Thanks so much for the opportunity to try it for myself, I am sure other readers (who have more patience than me) will enjoy it.
DNF - could not get into it at all unfortunately. Maybe I'll pick it up again in the future and give it another go.
First of all thank you for approving my request!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The authors writing style had me hooked throughout this book.
I didn't want it to end, a book I really couldn't put down.
Super cute, super gay. This was the ideal summer romance with great characterisation and an easy to read writing style. It's not ground breaking, and is fairly predictable, but for a light read that doesn't require too much of my brain power, this was perfect. I particularly liked Kya and her job in STEM and I found the setting of a hot Miami I to be well described.
I loved the premise and blurb of this book but overall I just didn’t love it. With most books I can’t wait to pick them up and continue the story, but with this one I didn’t. I found the storyline too predictable and a little difficult to follow at parts. However I do think it could make a good poolside holiday book.
A nice easy read with great summer vibes. A bit too predictable but I still enjoyed the romance aspect.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
kya life was perfect until she read her email that she had fired from her job.....feeling so betrayed she fell apart with her brother and his husband and cried
quinn was the dj that everyone wanted to be close to....but it was kya that caught her eye....
and as soon as kya and quinn were seen together a troll outed them and made for interesting times for them both... kya wasnt happy about it ... but could the troll be someone close to them....
as quinn and kys got closer their worlds felt far apart... could they maintain something between them when they lived on different parts of the country and also their livelihoods were totally different... could they get past it all ....
an interesting beach read that kept me entertained by all the goings on with all the characters...
4⭐️
I really enjoyed this sweet summer read. I enjoyed the authors previous book so, I was really excited to read this. I could give this 5 stars because I’m not sure what but, something felt like it was missing. I really enjoyed the story and the romance between Kya and Quinn. This just made me feel joy.
Thank you for the ARC in exchange of my honest opinion.
This is a fun easy beach read. Both Kya and Quinn are lovable and I was rooting for them. The third act breakup isn't overly drawn out and makes sense for the relationship. There are also some great side characters that add to the fun. I'm not sure what but it felt like it was missing something. It is a cute queer romance though.
This book was full of my favourite romantic tropes so it was perfect for me, complete with characters that I adored.
This was my first book by Amber Rose Gill, and I really enjoyed it.
I was more drawn to this one because it was WLW, and I think she wrote the romance between the characters really well.
I hop she writes more WLW romance :)
This is a summery and sweet five-star read. I have enjoyed this author before and I did enjoy this story, but not as much as previous works, I honestly think it was maybe as I overidentified with Kya a little too much, as I work a full-time job, a part time study placement and also part time study, and I read like it’s a professional job, so I am constantly busy, I don’t know how to stop. So the anxiety I felt on Kya’s behalf at life suddenly stopping meant I was busy thinking about what next at every page, that being said once the story started and Kya and Quinn start bumping into each other and apologising on purpose I was able to relax and was happy to see what next. There were a couple of moments that seemed over done to me, but I am likely 20 years older that the ideal audience, so that’s also likely me, but overall this was a joyful read, and made me so desperate to get out in the sunshine and have the sand beneath my toes and some music in my head that I actually took a break, it did exactly what I need it to. Do not miss this story if you need joy in your life!!
I loved Amber's last book and one summer in Miami certainly didn't disappoint.
The story was easy to follow and had a great cast of characters. I kept rooting for the main characters to get together. Overall, a brilliant novel to read through the summer months, I highly recommend it.
💖 Thank you to netgalley, the publisher and author for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
