Rebecca Tope’s A Lake District Christmas Murder is a charming cosy mystery that unfolds in the picturesque setting of Glenridding during the festive season. Simmy Henderson’s half-hearted attempts to make local friends and Christmas plans are abruptly interrupted when she discovers a man’s body in the beck and a vulnerable newborn abandoned nearby. As tensions simmer among the locals, Simmy finds herself having to juggling covertly nurturing the baby and clandestinely investigating the crime, revealing darker emotions lurking beneath the holiday cheer.
This story clearly captures the essence of a hectic family Christmas while delivering an engaging mystery that keeps readers hooked from start to finish. The chilly and remote Lake District setting really comes to life, and the character development and cosy atmosphere make it an ideal read for a cold winter’s night. A delightful blend of holiday cheer and intrigue, A Lake District Christmas Murder could entertain even committed Grinch Simmy Henderson.
It took me a little while to get into this, as although I’ve read a book in this series before, it is some time ago.
Although some say it can be read as a standalone, I suspect I would’ve enjoyed this much more if I could’ve remembered more about the character backgrounds
Thanks must go to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for my review.
I do love a good Christmas mystery. So when Simmy Henderson is invited to a party in the Lake District he wouldn't have thought a dead body and an abandoned baby would be found! And so the investigation begins and the Christmas festivities are put on hold.
A great cosy mystery that kept my attention and I loved the theme, the Christmas feel, the mystery and the characters. It is a cosy read to sit back in front of a fire, hot cuppa in hand so you can immerse yourself in the pages and enjoy the ride. Very entertaining, a great read and an author who I know have to read more of.
Thank you NetGalley and Allison & Busby for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was the first book I read by this author even if there's a couple on my TBR. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was an entertaining read. Solid mystery, fleshed out and interesting characters
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I have read one or two in this series and enjoyed them. This was very good and I managed to work out that things have moved on alot since I read number 3. Still excellent tho. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
A Lake District Christmas Murder by Rebecca Hope
Another great book by this author , as someone who lives in the lake district , I love any fiction book set within it , and the author writes another cosy murder , this time set in the lovely Glenridding area.
As Christmas draws nearer, Simmy Henderson is invited to a party in Glenridding at the heart of the Lake District. However, the festivities are overshadowed by two alarming discoveries: a man’s body in the beck above the village and a vulnerable newborn baby, apparently abandoned by its mother.
Great story, fab character in Simmy and enjoy reading about her solving all the murders going on around her !
I read this book in the Lake District but on a hot summer's day, rather than the freezing Christmas weather depicted in the book. I enjoy this series focussing on Simmy, who owns a flower shop in Windermere and the two young people, who together are regularly involved in solving Lake District murders. Implausible of course, but part of the pleasure is meeting characters who have become likevold friends and seeing their lives progress.
Simmy is now settled in Glenridding with her husband and toddler son, planning and not entirely looking forward to Christmas, when she becomes embroiled both with her neighbours and later a murder when a man's body is found just a few miles from her home.
This plot is slightly more implausible than most and there are fewer appearances of her young sidekicks but I don't read these books for realism. I enjoyed it and think other fans will too.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a review copy.
I received a free copy of, A Lake District Christmas Murder, by Rebecca Tope, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book fourteen of The Lake District Mystery series. Simmy Henderson did not expect to be solving a murder this Christmas, but she is. The Lake District sounds beautiful at Christmas, but with a murderer around, it wont be a happy Christmas. I liked this book, a good mystery.
