I am absolutely loving this series. Kennedy does cute romance, hard hitting topics like marital abuse and cowboys so well. This is the second in the series and can be read as a standalone although reading the books in order added to my pleasure. This time it is Willow who gets the attention. The book centres on an empowerment group for women who have suffered abuse and this is covered gently but not hiding the horrific impact. Alongside this, the romance of Eli and Willow bubbles along with them both burned by their pasts. Their bruises are well explained and there is a lot of empathy in the telling, a lovely read.
Cowboys , Christmas, secret pasts, strong friendships, small towns. This was a perfect short read. I love a mills and boon and this didn’t disappoint. Thank you NetGalley for this arc in exchange of an honest review. The friendships made in the domestic violence support group where the ladies of the town of timber falls are supported but friends, family and the local townsfolk. Think virgin river meets heartland and you have this book down to a t!
I didn’t realise that this was the second book in the series and that’s my fault! However I probably should’ve read that one first as this book reads like you’ve read the first, it felt like I was missing bits of information to begin with but not enough that you couldn’t follow the storyline!
I think that Willow is such a strong character for coming out of the other side of what she has been through however you don’t really get to read about much of her experience and how she coped afterwards, just her however many months down the line but yet it played a huge part of the plot. I did like the connection she built with Eli as a result of him coping with the death of his sister and thought that it worked well.
This book was really sweet and had a cosy feel to it but I personally thought it was too slow paced and that there was just something missing.
I think my favourite part of the book was Betty! She seemed like a force to be reckoned with and I loved seeing her pop up!
Lone Wolf In Lights is a cowboy romance novel by Stacey Kennedy.
I love all the cowboy romance novels that are around at the moment and Lone Wolf In Lights certainly didn't disappoint. It was easy to follow and had a good cast of characters. I couldn't put it down and kept reading until the end.
Overall a brilliant novel that I would recommend to other romance readers.
💝 Thank you to Mills and Boon, netgalley and the author, Stacey Kennedy for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Really enjoyed this book - thought it touched on some hard topics well and I could relate to some experienced the characters went through
Although set at Christmas it could be read anytime of the year and still have the same impact
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC
This was an okay read. Not very exciting and rather predictable and lacking emotional depth. Despite the domestic abuse angle, I thought it was amazingly twee and cosy.
I love, love, loved this book!
It was my favourite type of romance. A cowboy one. The characters had depth, they had complex backgrounds. It’s refreshing for the characters have such depth.
I loved the empowerment elves so much. They were all so sweet and it’s a shame there aren’t more things like that in real life.
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone and everyone. I cannot wait to go back and read the first one, and I cannot wait for the showdown that’s to come.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the digital ARC!
This is a good book to read if you're looking for a light hearted palette cleanser. I haven't read the first book, and this clearly read like I'd missed something but it wasn't too annoying or anything. I could understand what was going on easily enough, just something to note for others.
Willow and Eli are our main characters. Willow is the marketing manager for the bar she owns with her friends, and Eli works training horses at the ranch owned by Jaxon, the boyfriend of Willow's best friend, Charley. It's obvious they both like each other from the start, and they have good chemistry.
Willow is still healing after dealing with an abusive ex, though, and takes it slow with Eli. He, on the other hand, is still healing after his little sister was murdered by her own abusive boyfriend. There's a strong theme of domestic abuse being talked about in this, so I'd stay away if that triggers you.
Despite that, the stakes are very low and it's set at Christmas time, so gives you the cosy feelings. It was well written and easy to read - a good stop between heavier books!
3 stars - a cute Christmas cowboy romance, will appeal to Elsie Silver fans!
Not a light read due to some of the themes, but these were handled in a sensitive and empathetic manner, and played an important role in the plot. I also loved the bond between Willow and the women she befriended through the support group she set up, and the way that they all understood and helped each other. I also loved Eli's character and how he was able to be a rock for Willow through everything. The descriptions were great and really set the scene - the only reason it's not higher rated for me is that I didn't personally love the writing style.
Lovely romance story set on a ranch. I enjoyed the back stories and felt the addition of some nasty men in everyone's lives added to the overall story.
A little bit of steam to add to the overall enjoyment.
