I will apologize but this is a DNF book for me.
I made it over 50% into the audiobook the intro sucked you in but after that it went downhill.
It seemed like a lot of info dumbing but no actual back story till half way through and when we get the back story it just made it seem like we were missing an entire book before hand?
I did look at goodreads and see theirs prequel the problem here is there shouldn’t be a prequel this is how the book should have started form the begging and then jump into her struggles we got dumbed right in the middle of the struggles and left to wonder……
The main mmc also seemes overly cocky but also admits she’s weak??? I’m sorry but there can’t be both….. she loses all her fights and acts like she could defend her love once’s in a heart beat by the time we figure out her power half way in it makes 0 sense this book seemed to want to shock the reader but the way it was written it made us wonder about her past and how we got here.,,..
The audiobook narrator sounds fantastic but also her voice doesn’t capture how serious this FMC wants to be

I enjoyed this book! I listened to it on audio and liked the narrator. I did find it hard to follow voice-wise at times but the author did a good job at keeping the writing easy to follow, which made the “he said - she said” easier. This story is action packed with lots of information! I personally love books like this as it keeps my brain peaked for when all that information comes full circle.
This is definitely an inclusive book, which I think is awesome, as it explores diversity and the acceptance of others who are different than you in more ways than one. I love how the different characters learn to work together despite their differences.
PS: my Amazon review is pending. You should be able to find it on my profile once it has been approved. I have linked my profile below.

I listened to the audiobook for A Shift in Shadows and O.M.G!!! This is an epic fantasy book!!!
I loved the world building and different magical creatures that I came across. The story itself was amazing and I was unable to stop listening!!
The narrator was fantastic!! Her voice was the perfect selection for the fmc!! She did a fantastic job and I absolutely recommend listening to this audiobook 💕

I received an ALC through NetGalley.
I loved this audio book. It had a lot in it but I feel it was dont right. Urban Fantasy tends to be a mixing pot of everything.
There are shifters, vampires, witches, warlocks, Greek gods, merfolk, and more.
The FMC is amazing. Love her! I am not feeling the love interest in this book. I am hoping it changes to a certain vampire’s nephew. I did like the chemistry between Nemain and Andrei. I just feel he is the one for her.
I loved the world building in this first book. The found family is heavy in here and I love it. The whole group is filled with all different types of characters. Magos is one of my favorite characters. A protector!
The villain Sebastian was written so well! I hated him! It’s sad how so much love turns to revenge over greed for power.
When Nemain is talking to Connor at the end…so much emotion. I felt it. My heart hurt. That scene was beautiful written.
This is the first book so I can appreciate all the build up and world building. I am definitely reading the next one!
The narrator for this one is amazing! I am going to listen to more from this from her catalog. All the voices and emotions the narrator did immersed me deep into the book! I can clearly picture everything.

This series has a lot of great potential, and although I'm only giving a two star rating I did overall enjoy the listen.
The world building left a little something to be desired as there wasn't much in regards to the main place setting, however I did really enjoy the multi-universe aspect. Linking that to the magic system was really intriguing.
The liked seeing the differences of wizard / witch / mermaids / fae etc. This gave it a very whimsical feel and really built on the fantasy element, however we didn't see much depth within those races or their history and political connection to one another - I'd love to hear more about each of them!
I liked our characters, especially the ones outside of our main trio - I felt like they had a lot of personality to them (even if we were meant to dislike them) and it made them really stand out. My favourite being the brothers partner!
I did find myself zoning out a couple of times and honestly didn't feel like I'd missed much when it came back to it.
However as I've said it has a lot of interesting parts, some good foundations that I'd be interested to learn more in a sequel. I just wish I'd had a little more of a punch, something to really draw me in. For that reason, it's a 2/2.5 star read for me.

So after listening to this book I really think the main character is sassy and empowering and awesome! I loved her! I think the issue I had was we jumped right into it and I felt like I was missing some information which made it hard for me to keep up. However, the character descriptions and also the action scenes were amazing!

I really really really wanted to get into this one, and unfortunately I just couldn't. I made it to 50% and I just realized I would not be able to give this one justice. I'm giving it 3 stars because I bet lots of people will love this one. It has everything that I enjoy in romantasys (fae, magic, battles, spice, great characters), but for me I just couldn't focus. I hope to pick up something else by this author because the writing style was great!
