Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this ARC!!

Hot Hex Boyfriend is a small town, cosy, witchy romance read, perfect for October !!

I really enjoyed this book, it was a fun read to get into the spooky season!

I rated 4* instead of 5 as I do wish that Max and Delia had a little more time to develop their relationship a little bit more, but I still really enjoyed the book!!

Thank you again for letting me read the ARC for this book :)

I always dislike DNF’ing books especially when I’m over halfway through and especially when they’re NetGalley arcs. But I just couldn’t hold on any longer as I was slowly finding myself dreading picking my kindle up the more in got into this book. I unfortunately DNF’d at 62%.

I had high hopes for this one as I absolutely LOVE witchy romance books, especially at this time of year.
I actually loved the start of this one and I was really excited to see where it went! I loved the plot and the general vibe of the book, I found it interesting that the Merriweather witches hadn’t had their magic before and was intrigued to see what happened when they finally unhexed themselves!

That was where it started to fall flat for me :( I felt like it took quite a long time for them to be unhexed and to gain their magic, around 50% of the book was when it happened which felt like a long time to wait, and even less time to see what happened in the rest of the book.

I also couldn’t find myself engaging and connecting with main character Delia, I’m not sure why but she just didn’t come across relatable, especially further on in the book when she just appeared cringy and over the top.

In theory this book had the potential to be a favourite of mine, but unfortunately the execution just wasn’t there for me. As someone who is in a bit of a reading slump maybe that contributed to my feelings but it’s so hard when you want a book to grip you and this one just didn’t :(

Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this one, I’m so grateful!

This was a such a fun and cosy witchy read with an enthralling concept. I loved the eccentric family that came with our lead female, Delia - they had me laughing out loud and smiling throughout. Their bond and the confidence they drew out of Delia was incredibly heart-warming to read about. I really enjoyed our male lead, Max, as well - he was a very mysterious man with a not so great agenda, however with the power of love and a little change in perspective, he came through and allowed Delia and her family to live the lives they were destined to. I absolutely adored Nikki, he was such a quirky character and I did feel protective of him, especially nearing the end - talk about a mini heart attack!

This is the perfect witchy read to divulge in through spooky season - it's filled with humour, witchy magic, familiars, quirky characters and a romance filled with chemistry.

A Bewitching Rom Com Full of Magic, Chaos, and Heart!

If you’re looking for a laugh-out-loud romance with a dash of magic and a quirky cast of characters, Hot Hex Boyfriendby Carly Bloom will cast a spell on you from page one.

This charming rom com weaves together family shenanigans, unexpected powers, and a brooding (but oh-so-sexy) next-door neighbour for a delightfully fun read. I absolutely adored it!

Delia Merriweather doesn’t believe in magic, despite what her kooky family of “hexed” witches might claim. But when she accidentally breaks a century-old curse, all magical hell breaks loose. Suddenly, Delia’s the centre of the witching world’s attention, and that includes Max Halifax, the grumpy hunk next door with some serious magical baggage of his own.

Max is supposed to be keeping an eye on Delia’s family to make sure they don’t accidentally tap into some world dominating witchy powers. But of course, fate has other plans. The more time Max spends around Delia, the more he worries his heart might be the first thing she accidentally enchants. Their chemistry? Electric. Their banter? Absolutely sizzling. And when magic starts flying—literally—it’s clear these two are in for a whirlwind romance.

What made this story so much fun was its blend of hilarious family drama, magical mayhem, and swoon-worthy romance. The Merriweather women are a riot, and their wild antics (and firm belief in Delia’s witchy destiny) bring so much heart and humour to the story. Delia’s journey from skeptic to accidental witch is just the right mix of chaotic fun and self-discovery, while Max’s gruff, protective nature hides a heart that’s practically waiting to be stolen.

Delia and Max’s slow burn attraction crackles with tension, and watching Max fall for the one woman he’s supposed to be wary of is pure rom-com gold. There’s something irresistible about a reluctant hero getting swept up in the charm of a lovable mess like Delia.

So, if you’re in the mood for a lighthearted, magical romance with plenty of laughs and an adorably bumbling coven, Hot Hex Boyfriend is your next must-read. Add this to your autumn witchy TBR now!

Witch lit cozy romcom is everywhere and if it’s your kind of genre then this is a great fun read for you!
This is a little too cozy and sweet for my 5 star reward but the writing and story are fun and light enough not to be bogged down with any magic and world building.
It kind of reminded me of a slightly more mature version of original version of Sabrina the teenage witch.

I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley and provide my honest opinion

All in all, this was a fun witchy read. The plot is interesting and I loved the magic elements and the charming cast of characters. My favourite parts were the one involving the entire Merriweather family as they created some of the most hilarious scenes in the story, and even Max’s family made me laugh quite a lot. Unfortunately, I had trouble with the pace which, especially in the first half of the story, was a bit slow. And I couldn’t feel any chemistry between the two main characters, Delia and Max, so I couldn’t really enjoy the romance side of the novel.

3.5 stars! This is a fun witchy romance with love, character growth, and baddies. I enjoyed diving into this world and seeing Delia’s loud and eccentric family with all their quirks and all their closeness to each other. We see Delia’s confidence build, as she finds her calling, and some truths come to light. Max may arrive in town a little devious and deceptive but as he experiences a different kind of life, he changes and it’s great to see. There’s plenty of interesting characters, imps, and witches, and family. I enjoyed reading this one and it’s a great little read for spooky season, complete with a little spice and lots of chemistry!

I received a free copy of this book. All views are my own.

When I first read the blurb for this book I thought it was going to be mainly romance focussed with a sprinkling of magic and I was actually very pleasantly surprised to see how well developed the magic system was in this book. The setting and characters are so real and true - I could feel the love of the Merriweathers pouring off the page and I would love to be a member of that family. This was a lovely, cosy read and I’ll definitely look out for more by this author.

This was a cheesy lil witchy tale - packed with great characters (I LOVED the Merriweather family), a little romance, and magic. As with most cosy witch romances, the humour in this one was great, and made the characters feel very familiar. While I do think the romance could've been fleshed out a little bit more and I found Delia pretty annoying to follow, this was a sweet book. Vibes were great for something light this time of year, too.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I loved the witchy-vibes! The beginning was a bit slow for my part and it was hard to follow the story but it all turned well. I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a book with witchy-vibes to read during the fall time!

Tropes:
- Witchy vibes
- Enemies to lovers
- Cozy fall vibes

Delightful, warm, and such a warm cup of sweetness in the autumn chill. A beautiful slowburn that kept me on my toes. When I finished I wanted to jump right back into the book, and into the Merriweather family. I can only hope there's as sequel and that I can learn more about the mysterious world of curses and magic.

Thank you for the arc, I adored the cozy witchy vibes in this book so much 🙈 Delias family were so funny but sweet at the same time I can just imagine how chaotic it must be living in their house! I like the contrast of max’s family like and how it shaped him as a which. The whole fairy witch thing was a great aspect and I especially liked at the end where we found out that witch magic is humerous. This is quite a low stakes book as in there’s not much stress it in so it makes for the coziest of autumn reads!

This book was a fun easy read. It reminded me of the sitcoms from the 70/80s where the plot is set up, and then you sit back and watch the action unfolding before. Here there are witches, magic, curses, hexes, gentle humour, an obvious frenemies romance, and a couple of twists for satisfaction. Thank you to Headline and NetGalley for the ARC. 3.5⭐️ thank you netgalley Harper Collins and Carly Bloom for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

What I liked -
-Grandma Maddie stole the show ! I loved the female bonds between all of Delia's family.
-Nikki was utterly fabulous
-I liked the change up from other witchy reads with Max being a male witch.
-I don't know why, but I'm feeling something between Luc x Amy.

What I DISLIKED
- this took so long to get to the punchline. I was waiting Delia to just break the Curse in such a dramatic way, and she would be this badass witch. But no. I didn't get this. You have to wait until 60% of the way through for it to happen.

- Very little spice, no spicy action until around 80%

This is seperate from review - but Netgalley needs to fix formatting on some of the arcs. It made somethings confusing.

‘Hot Hex Boyfriend’ by Carly Bloom is a really fun romance set in the somewhat magical town of Willow Root that explores family loyalty, love vs. logic and friendship. Adorable main character Delia is part of a family of women who all believe that they are witches whose power was cursed away generations ago, but as she approaches 30, she finds them mildly embarrassing (despite loving them to pieces). When powerful witch Max arrives to prepare the grand house he inherited from his estranged uncle for sale and is given a mission to stop a certain Cordelia Merriweather from lifting a hex she doesn’t really believe in, it seems like the easiest job in the world… but will his his heart start to rule his head?

I really enjoyed:
- Max’s inherited familiar Nikki - who took on his impish form and shared sage advice
- Delia’s warm and hilarious family and friends who brought so much joy to every page
- The character development for Max’s brother Luc and his parents
- The well thought-out and intriguing magical lore which really drove the last third of the plot
- Themes of the beauty community and the power of collaboration

The pacing of this book was a little uneven in my opinion - with the first half of the novel feeling quite slow, and the culmination coming very swiftly, but that did mean I deeply cared about the characters and was incredibly gripped by the end!

This gets 4.5 stars from me - I really enjoyed the world-building and fell in love with both Max and Delia. This is the perfect spooky-season read and I’m eager to explore more from this author (who has also released a cowboy romance series).

I received an advance Digital Review Copy of this book from the publisher Headline Books via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

*2.5 stars

I really wanted to love this, but it needed some tweaks.

There are 3 things I really loved about this book:
1. The cosy, small town, Sabrina the Teenage Witch vibes
2. Delia's best friend
3. The cat

But unfortunately that's about all that I liked.

I started out really enjoying it, but I feel like it went on forever! I think the problem is that the plot from the synopsis doesn't actually start until about 50/60% of the way through the book. So obviously by that point I'd completely lost interest. I also feel like the characters were quite immature and there wasn't actually any chemistry between Delia and Max.

Because of the pacing issues, I didn't end up enjoying this that much, but I did have a great time at the start!

First, a big thank you to NetGalley, Headline Eternal, and Carly Bloom for providing me with an advanced copy of Hot Hex Boyfriend in exchange for an honest review.

Hot Hex Boyfriend follows Delia Merriweather, a 29-year-old woman born to a family of "witches" who are powerless due to a supposed centuries-long hex placed upon their family. Due to the circumstances of Delia's birth, she is theorised to be the witch who can break the hex placed on the Merriweathers. What she doesn't know is that her new next-door neighbour, Max Halifax, is not only packing up his late uncle's estate but has also been tasked with making sure Delia does not break the hex before her thirtieth birthday - and if she does, it's up to Max to re-hex them.

I definitely recommend Hot Hex Boyfriend to anyone looking for a cute, witchy romance book as we move into autumn. This book had all the makings of a great rom-com; it was full of sweet and charming characters, interesting lore, and a few steamy scenes. I thought the pacing was great and I was hooked after about fifty or so pages. I thought the supporting characters helped bring the small -town to life so it felt lived-in and realistic.

I also enjoyed the fact that you can think you know where this story was headed but then as you read on, so much more is uncovered. I think Bloom has done an amazing job of creating a fleshed-out world with a rich history, an interesting magic system, and political intrigue.

Hot Hex Boyfriend releases on September 3rd 2024, so I would encourage you to keep an eye out for it if it's sounds like something you would enjoy!

This was such an enjoyable and easy to read/understand book about a family of witches who navigate breaking a curse and suddenly having their magic back after generations of faking it.
It was just complex and engaging enough to be interesting and not confusing. It's also very lighthearted, almost a comedy romance with plenty of moments that had me laughing and happy for the characters. Most of the characters also seemed really unique and weird in their own ways which made for some interesting scenes and funny dialogue. It really helped to brake up some of the more boring or intense parts of the plot.

The pacing was a little bit slow to start off with. There was loads of time taken at the start explaining things that could otherwise have been left unsaid, as i'm sure the reader would have been able to jump to their own conclusions/figure out what was happening.
It felt a bit lacking too that it took so long plot wise to get anywhere, which is why this wasn't a 5 star read for me.
I was fully expecting dramatic things to happen at the start, or for things to get moving at the 20% mark, not to wait until we were roughly half way through. I really think this is going to impact how some people view the story, or rather how many people will actually stick around to read it all...

I also really enjoyed the contrast between Delia and Max. They were almost total opposites and even though so many things went wrong for them they were still able to make it work, and didn't really let anything get in their way at the end after admitting their feelings!

I would definitely say it falls into the realm of a cosy autumn/Halloween read, or even a palette cleaner book to be read in between really high fantasy books.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for giving me a chance to read an arc of this book <3
