I had read and loved the previous two books in this series and this one, the third and final installment, did not disappoint. Veronica and her friends are off on another adventure to save the penguins. Heartwarming, sweet and just utterly delightful, Hazel Prior's books are always such a joy.

It was so lovely to be back with Mrs McCreedy and the gang! What is not to love about a story of a cantankerous old woman and her love of penguins?!

Mrs McCreedy is to become the first penguin ambassador and with this she finds is again on a mission to save the penguins. This time the local ones in the sea life centre….but in doing so she is able once again to travel the world.

Eileen is on hand as ever to ensure Mrs McCreedy is safe. Daisy is also a loyal companion. And many familiar faces make an appearance!

Heartwarming, at times heart breaking and always full of good humour. A wonderful tale of penguins, the environment and love.

This was such a sweet, lovely, installment of a series I have been obsessed with!
The author has done a great job in expanding the story and moving the characters forward, without losing what the series is all about.
I love it that Veronica finally found her person and allowed herself to love and be happy. But my favourite part of this book was watching Eileen change and grow.
It was so lovely and I am pleased it's gone full circle.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
I have read both the previous books in this series so when I saw there was a third I was really happy.
We follow Veronica McReady on another adventure this time with Eileen and Daisy. They go on an adventure to the Antarctic and the Falklands to take in a huge 100 mile walk to raise money for a penguin sanctuary. If you’ve liked the previous books in the series then you’ll love this too! What an adventure this 80 something year old lady gets to take us on!

I’m sad this series has finished! Definitely recommend!

I absolutely loved this book. It is just so feel-good and heartwarming. It helps to have read the previous 2 books to understand the backstory but I think it is a good stand alone too. I feel like I know all the characters personally! Such excellent writing!

Another installment in the Penguins series, and probably the last, but a lovely read nonetheless. Veronica is a likeable if irascible main character, though she grows and changes as do we all. If you’ve enjoyed the previous books then you’re sure to find a good read here also.

I was so excited to have the opportunity to read Gone with the Penguins, the third book in this delightful trilogy, and it most definitely didn't disappoint. We rejoin the indefatigable Veronica McCreedy as she travels across the globe with her long suffering, but oh so loyal housekeeper Eileen, and young Daisy, to collect her Penguin Ambassador award. Veronica, Eileen and Daisy are also on a mission to raise funds to prevent the closure of a local wildlife sanctuary where over twenty penguins face euthanasia if the sanctuary closes. In this story Eileen plays a more central role, I really enjoyed how her character developed throughout the adventure.

Although it is hard to imagine how an 87 year old woman could have the adventures Veronica has, and survive to tell the tales, I have absolutely loved her exploits. Importantly, there are some real life messages about conservation, climate change and how we must look after this wonderful planet of ours before it is too late. Not to mention some fascinating facts about the many different species of penguins. I also learnt there is the southern equivalent of the northern lights, the Aurora Australis.

So many thanks to NetGalley and Random House UK for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy in return for my honest and unbiased review.

I've very much enjoyed this wholesome series about grumpy octogenarian millionaire Veronica McCreedy and her obsession with penguins. Bonus points for the environmental message which comes across as informative and well researched.
Gone With the Penguins is the third in the series, and while I didn't think I needed more after the first one, Hazel Prior proved me very wrong with her writing, which is an utter delight. I think you could read it as a standalone, but be prepared if you do start with this one because you'll want to read Away with the Penguins next! It's a rare find to read about an strong elderly main character and in this we have 3 strong female main characters with a strong friendship, which is lovely and refreshing. Can't wait to see what she writes next!

Veronica McCreedy is looking forward to a new adventure, at 87 her thirst for new experiences hasn’t diminished.
Being made the very first Penguin Ambassador is a huge honour and when Veronica discovers that her local Sea Life Centre is to close, and the penguins who live there are under threat, she decides to try and do something about it.
Together with her assistant Eileen and 10 year old Daisy, Veronica embarks on an epic trek to raise funds to save the Sea Life Centre.
As the three embark on their quest to raise the money they will discover more than they bargained for, about penguins, themselves and each other.
This wonderful, heartwarming story had me on a rollercoaster of emotions. The characters, the settings, the penguins, everything is just amazing.

I have read and loved the two previous books in this series and this third, and final one, met all my expectations. It was good to catch up with 87 year old Veronica, her friend and helper, Eileen and 10 year old Daisy - all delightful characters. The trio set off to the Antarctic and the Falklands to take on a 100 mile walk to raise money to help keep a penguin sanctuary in business and thereby avoid the possible euthenasia of 24 of their resident penguins. It's a hazardous, challenging endeavour and there are adventures galore along the way. The author of this story writes beautifully. The prose and descriptions of the places and the penguins who live there is absolutely lovely. There is laughter, pathos, tears and wonderful, warm moments throughout. I raced through the latter part, desperate to see if the sacrifices made would pay off. The author has obviously done a huge amount of research and I learned a lot about penguins and the environment. The book ended perfectly and left me with a satisfied, happy feeling. Just wonderful. This book can be read as a standalone but I do recommend reading the first 2 in the series to get to know the characters in greater depth. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I have read the first two books in the Trilogy, so was pleased to be offered an arc of the third book. It is a lovely warm, friendly story, even though much of it takes place in the Antarctic! Veronica, now 87, is horrified when a local penguin centre is put up for sale and the penguins are to be euthanised. She immediately decides to save them. As she doesn’t have enough funds to buy it, she chooses to go on a 100 mile walk to raise sponsorship, just like the Emperor Penguins trek 100 miles. She decides to take her friend Eileen with her and also 10 year old Daisy. We met both of these characters in the previous books. The story tells of Veronica’s adventures in the Falklands and in the Antarctic and her hope to meet Pip the Adelie penguin again. We met Pip in the first book of the series. Although this is a stand alone book, I would recommend reading the first two in the series to get to know the characters. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers Random House, Transworld Publishers, for an advance copy of this final book in the story.

What a treat to be back with Veronica McCreedy, Eileen and Daisy. Today Mrs McCreedy is a changed woman maybe a step too far but she is a little more considerate of Eileen and she needs to be as they are on another mission to save the penguins a bit closer to home. With her inimitable style they are sure to have plenty of adventures. An enjoyable read back with all familiar characters and places I really enjoy Hazel Prior’s writing

“Gone with the Penguins” is the third book featuring Veronica McCreedy. You will not have got this far in the series without falling in love with this gutsy, determined, impassioned, and very human ‘old’ lady who champions penguins and the environment. Veronica is something of an international treasure and embarking on the third adventure I felt nervous as to what Hazel might do with her character - she is rather old after all! I felt the weight of Hazel’s choices - the reader has by now invested so much in Veronica and the penguins!

Veronica is fighting against the closure of a local wildlife sanctuary and likely euthanasia of its penguin occupants. She has recently been appointed Penguin Ambassador and feels the responsibility of her title. She determines to raise funds through a sponsored walk alongside little Daisy and Eileen who the reader has met in previous books. Unfortunately the walk is not raising enough funds and Veronica decides on more drastic action. In the meantime she is filming in Antartica and Galapagos Islands and she’s hoping to see Pip the penguin again.

On her website Hazel writes, “I have done my best to write what is true, what is lovely, what is important and what is fun..” I don’t think you could caption “Gone with The Penguins” any better than this. With my passion for animal welfare I am always impressed by how well Hazel researches her subjects and presents such a balanced view. This is heaven for penguin lovers and the literary equivalent of a David Attenborough documentary! There is plenty of ‘lovely’ and lots of ‘love’ and the penguins are guaranteed fun. Do you ever skip to the end? There were points at this book where I found it almost impossible not to - I had to know!

‘what is true..what is important..” This book is being published at a time when another penguin species has been added to the extinction list due to over fishing, when the planet is reaching key turning points. Gently integrated into this wonderful story are some key messages about what it is to love, what it is to live and how much we need to change now. Bravo Hazel. This is the perfect finale! Veronica for President!! Warm, uplifting and hopeful and very very timely!!

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading this book which had a perfect end to the trilogy.

It’s the story of Veronica, who, wants to save a penguin sanctuary and for that, she will walk 100 miles, her housekeeper Eileen and Daisy will be walking with her.

I loved Veronica, she is a character who you will love, a bit different in her own way. We learn more about conservation and climate change, with lots of things about the penguins, what they’re like and love.

I highly recommend this book.

Another fine instalment of Veronica and her penguin mission.

I've been emotionally invested in this since the first book came out, and I've pounced on copies of each of the others as they've been released.

The message of these stories is strong, the characters memorable, likeable and so easy to picture.

Now we know Veronica's history (you might need to read the other books first, rather than coming to the third from scratch!), we are concentrating on what's happening now for the 80-something slightly-less-crotchety Scot.

Back from her overseas adventures, she's got less to occupy her at home, so discovering the local sea life centre is due to close due to lack of funding, Veronica, her 'ward' Daisy and employee Eileen vow to make the 100 mile trek the Emperor penguins do each year to raise awareness and funds. And with Veronica yet again invited overseas for filming and to be awarded a Penguin Ambassador role, they get to take the adventure global.

With more this time from Eileen - suffering marital problems, the women's voices and stories give us a multi-age angle on life, love and passion for a cause.

Other loved characters return, from Veronica's grandson and the Attenborough-like film presenter Robert, to hopefully the little guy who started our protagonist's transformation - Pip the penguin.

Comfy, cosy, warm and familiar, a great end to a trilogy (I hope this sees the upbeat story close here?), that one day I hope finds a place on the screen as well.

With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample reading copy.

Gone With Penguins by Hazel Prior
I give this book 5 stars.

87 year old Veronica McCreedy, is the very first Penguin Ambassador.
Eileen is Veronica’s ever-patient assistant.
10 year-old, penguin-obsessed Daisy can’t wait to be reunited with Veronica again.
When they discover that the local Sea Life Centre is under threat, the unlikely trio embark on an epic fundraising walk.

The final instalment of this wonderful trilogy, I’ve got to start by saying I highly recommend this heartwarming series.
The trio go back to where it all began as part of a 100 mile walk in one month and we get the chance to visit Locket Island,The Galapagos and Antarctica along with catching up with some familiar side characters. I love the descriptive prose and the authors characterisation of Veronica,Eileen and Daisy is brilliant along with a few special penguins. The animal facts including conservation and climate change are an enjoyable and informative addition to the storyline. These books have captured my heart and I always get totally immersed while reading them and this final ending for me was satisfyingly good.
The perfect pick me up!
With thanks to Netgalley,Hazel Prior and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers | Penguin for my chance to read and review this book.

This is the third book in the 'Penguin' series and although i enjoyed the previous two, for some reason this didn't 'grab' me in the same way. We are once again in the company of 87 year old Veronica McCreedy, a feisty woman who in the first two books became a penguin rescuer and champion. This time, finding out that the local Sea life Centre is being sold and its resident penguins destined for euthanasia, she embarks, with her housekeeper Eileen and 10 year old Daisy (characters familiar if you have read the first two books) to walk one hundred miles in a month to raise funds to save the centre - taking as inspiration the annual trek of the Emperor penguins. Once again, Veronica goes on her travels - with Eileen and Daisy this time - to Locket Island, the Galapagos Islands, and Antarctica, meeting up with her grandson Patrick and his partner Terry as well as Sir Robert Saddlebow with whom she is filming for his documentary. Lots of descriptions of place and penguins which I did enjoy. However, this time, I found that I no longer found Veronica's obstinacy and stubbornness to be charming. I was irritated by her intransigence and her unwillingness to accept help. In fact, for me, Eileen was the character that I warmed to. The story itself was a feel good and I sort of knew where I was going to end up. On the whole it rounded of the trilogy satisfactorily.

A wonderful ending to this trilogy of books. I have adored reading about Veronica and her band of Penguin protectors. In some respects the story goes full circle and provides updates on earlier book events. This can be read as a stand alone book but I thoroughly recommend the series. A gentle read that capsules you to the vastness whiteness of the far southern reaches of the planet. Fabulous.

Thank you Netgalley

This is the latest, 3rd and final addition to Hazel Prior's trilogy featuring the determined elderly Veronica McCreedy, rather set in her ways, stubborn, penguin ambassador, living in her huge home by the Scottish coast, looked after by her wonderful carer and assistant, Eileen. However, whilst Veronica might be 'getting on' in years, she is no ordinary woman, a fiery spirit still bursting full of life and beans, as we soon see with the drama and adventure that ensues. Whilst this continues to be an informative series, well researched, with the marvellous penguins, and raising the pressing issues of climate change and conservation, I am very much of the opinion that the series has run its course, and this is a well timed, fitting ending.

The young Daisy, enthralled by penguins, returns to Veronica's home for the summer, delighted to be reunited with Veronica and Eileen, only for all of them to become caught up in a threat to a wild sea life centre, a crisis that places their local penguins in jeopardy. None of them are going to take this lying down, the fight is on to save it, they are willing to do whatever it takes. To this end, they embark on a epic fundraising charity walk, in emulation of the tradition of the emperor penguins. There are recurring characters, an unforgettable and remarkable return to the South Atlantic and the Antarctic, with all its incredible wildlife, revisiting old friends, grandson, Patrick and his girlfriend, Terry, and the delightful penguins, with the terrific Pip.

To top it all, Veronica discovers that life has more in store for her than she could ever have possibly imagined! Prior does a great job in depicting that you should never underestimate the older generation, Veronica is brimming with life, and comes to see it can still surprise her, with the possibility of new beginnings. There is a superb sense of the locations with the provision of vivid and rich descriptions, although the enjoyable narrative does on occasion jar and over simplify its message. This addition and series is likely to appeal to those who adore heartwarming, character driven reads, and adore penguins! Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.
