This was an absolutely joy of a read and surprised me in the best way.
It was witty and soft in equal measure and I found it utterly charming. The characters were endearing and the plot gentle but never slow, with domestic yet emotionally high stakes.
I was completely won over by this book and would love to see more of these characters/world in the future.
The book is a story of marriage of convenience, found family and friends to lovers, set in Victorian England.
A newly minted Duke needs to appear reputable to win custody of his much younger half-sibling. It is and uphill battle since he grew up in America, which is, of course, frowned upon.
A good friend of his, a Duke's daughter tries to help him by setting him up with suitable women to make him appear more settled down and respectable. The attraction they both feel makes it difficult, though. And while the young lady cares for him as well, she has a secret she worries might ruin his hard-earned reputation if it were to come out.
The story includes scheming, blind dates, personal values that not always conform with the standards of the time and figuring out of personal feelings and rational decisions that need to be made for the good of the children.
The narration is well done. The American accent a little funny at times.
The story is interesting and the conflict feels reasonable in the setting.
It was fun, it was cute so it’s getting a 3 stars. It’s not groundbreaking or anything original and it reminded me a bit of Bridgerton season 3 since our main characters also runs a scandalous business and has to deal with the social consequences of it. I have to say, having read Colin’s book, Peter’s reaction was what I had expected from Colin in his book but instead got some flavor of masculine fragility. Now Selena and Peter didn’t have any crazy chemistry or anything but they were sweet together, especially in the way they supported one another in their endeavors. I enjoyed the business side of the story but also felt it almost overshadowed the romance itself, leaving us with very little bonding moments between our characters.
4.5 stars
I really loved this from start to finish. This is an incredible debut and so much fun, I am definitely looking forward to possible future books.
The tension building, the siblings, the well-fleshed-out characters and the well done spice have surmised into a book that was difficult to put down. Georgina is a queen and I am really hoping we get her book in the future!! This truly felt like it was set in the Bridgerton world, so if you like that kind of setting and world then I think you're going to love this.
Who doesn't love a historical, marriage of convenience where the FMC has a big secret?
Omg this!!!!!!!!!!!! So damn good. Audio marvelous, the voices so well picked . Loved both . The book premises a delight. This had me giggling all the time I was reading, and the sibling 😍. Definitely recommending
The new duke of Stanhope has developed quite a scandalous reputation that wont be helpful in his quest of gaining guardianship of his half siblings. He enlists Lady Selena Ravenscroft, one of the most brilliant women he’s acquainted with to aid him with this issue. Selena has a fabulous reputation and is perceived as a very proper debutant but if her secret were to come out she would be wrapped up in scandal. She runs a library containing erotic litterature for women, he men allowed. Selena suggests courtship and marriage and starts looking for potential women for Peter to marry. She can’t be on the list under any circumstance despite the blooming chemistry between them.
Historical romance is great but I’ve been obsessed with the regency era in particular after the new Bridgerton season dropped no this one filled that craving. Its Bridgerton esque in a good way with the beautiful scenery, strong female lead and spicy scenes but it has a unique storyline that sets it apart. I love Selena and admire her so much for going after her dreams and educating her fellow women during a point in time when men held all the power.
In my experience you could divide this book into three parts. The first one being denial, Selena was dead set on finding Peter another woman. Then the inevitable happens and the two of them enter in holy matrimony and finally the big scandal comes out. It felt slightly dragged out by the end, i thought it was ending shortly after what seemed like their hea but there was hours left of the union book by that point.
The narrator is really good, super easy to listen to and her accent is great. I really enjoyed this one and hope there will be more books with characters from this universe in the future.
