First, I would like to thanks NetGalley, the author and to the publisher for offering me a copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was an enjoyable read, though it falls a bit short of being truly memorable.

The story is light and entertaining, with witty dialogue and charming characters that keep the reader engaged.

However, it feels like it's missing a certain depth or spark that could have made it more impactful. The plot is predictable, and while it's an easy, pleasant book to get through, it doesn’t leave a lasting impression.

Overall, I'd rate it 3/5—a fun, lighthearted read, but not one that will stick with you long after you've finished.

Alright different, audio voice was great. Unfortunately didn’t love it and is more about my taste on books than the book itself , i was a bit mislead but my own fault .

I enjoyed this audiobook. The characters were intelligently written, the storyline was entertaining and realistic and the narration was spot-on.

It was such a great comfort read.
The perfect escape story.

A unique take on a small town romance, Maggie finds herself inheriting a run-down hotel in Provence when Grey rolls up looking for a place to lay low.

I loved Maggie's journey and how she started questioning her life and what she actually wants.

I’ve read a couple of books by Sophia Money-Coutts and had fun with many of them. The Right Place is another success.

In this book, we follow Maggie, who has been struggling in her life. She feels stuck with her husband and their failed attempts at IVF. When her beloved Aunt suddenly dies and leaves her the hotel she’d spent so much time in growing up, she has to deal with it. There, when trying to fix it up, she winds up meeting a disgraced Hollywood star spending time with him and forming a bond that she never would have expected.

This book obviously deals with some serious things. I mentioned IVF in the summary, and that is a big theme. It felt like it was handled sensitively, and I really felt for Maggie and, also, Mungo when it came to that. Trying so hard for a baby, and failing every time. That can’t be at all easy. It’s not a surprise that they grew so far apart and that Maggie just wanted to stop.

Another serious theme was alcoholism. Maggie’s Aunt dealt with it, and that’s partially what led to her death. So if this is something that triggers you, then be aware. I do feel that there could have been more conversations around this, but because of their estrangement, we weren’t able to see that.

The characters were pretty fun. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the romance with it revolving around cheating. It was definitely cuter than I’d expected, I liked Gray and thought he was pretty down to earth. But Jamie encouraging that? Nah. Kinda dickish. When reading the summary, I kind have assumed Maggie and Mungo would have just broken up before anything happened, but I knew it was a possibility, so I can’t be too pissed about the cheating. But it does make it a little harder to want to root for them.

I enjoyed the writing quite a lot. This was a super easy read and was fun to just sit and listen to. I think it was a decent audiobook, and it was my preferred way to pick this book up.

Personally, it wasn’t a book that I’ll be thinking about after this. But it could be a fun read for the summer, provided you’re not triggered by any of the heavy themes.

Maddie was facing infertility issues and after several rounds of IVF with her husband Mungo she was exhausted. Her aunt died and left her a hotel riddled with debt which she had to sell in order to avoid a life of debt. Gray was an actor facing a scandal and sought out a place to lay low. Maddie's hotel was the perfect place.

I was looking forward to this but didn't like it. I get that the MCs' marriages were on the rocks but I couldn't get over the cheating. I also felt like the flashback chapters were confusing and unnecessary except for when we got to see why Maddie had a falling out with her late aunt. Switching POVs in the middle of chapters was also unnerving.

I didn't enjoy the narration. The French and American accents were weird 🤭 Gray ended up sounding more Irish than American. It sometimes also had a robotic feel to it. Also didn't get how Gray didn't understand common British slang. Who doesn't know what knickers and barfing mean?😂

I really enjoyed the audio narration of The right Place and even though it has a cute and fluffy cover the story itself is actually quite heavy and deals with infertility and the emotions around going through Ivf treatments.

I've read all of Sophias books now and really enjoy that she is narrator. There are things I like about the story but on the flipside I do have to say i did struggle with one aspect of the story and that is that they did cheat on their spouses in this book. As in they slept together before any conversation about splitting up happened and i felt this was not my favourite thing to read... Also it did kind of feel like they got off easily and had no comeuppance for their actions. Other than that I'll admit I'm a sucker for a story of normal girl meets famous actor so i really did love it and was hoping they got their happy ending!

Wow. Well.. where do I begin?

This story hit home in so many ways for me. From a young woman going through IVF and it failing, to the miscarriages she had to recover from. To the eccentric aunt who loved her no matter what. I felt my life open up before me. The only missing part being the beauty of the south of France and an old time château, and of course the guest!

Even with tears in my eyes, I enjoyed this story very much! A must read, just wish I had some trigger warning before I dived into it.

I can see lots of people loving this book but for me it was a bit of a miss. I nearly DNF'd at around 50%
I'm glad I carried on as the ending was sweet, but the 1st half was very slow with too many flashbacks for my liking.

It's not often that an author can be a double threat, but once again author Sophia Money-Coutts brings to life her own book with her warm, soothing voice. I loved this book both as a book to read with my eyes *and* my ears. I kept listening to it over and over as I walked to work for a week. I couldn't get enough!

When we meet Maggie (Meriwether) Lemon, she's a shell of herself, having undergone six unsuccessful rounds of IVF. On the pressure of her husband Mungo and mother, she's given up her beloved restaurant she opened at 25 and even her surname in the process, while Mungo has given up nothing.

Upon learning her estranged aunt has died and has left her Le Figuier, her hotel in the French countryside, Maggie decides to return, citing the need for a break, much to Mungo's chagrin as he wants her to see another doctor. Much like Maggie, the hotel has seen better days, nothing like the place it was when celebrities clamoured to stay there. With pressure from Mungo to sell it, Maggie ends up staying longer to prepare the place to sell but finds her taking on the remaining remaining bookings, including the Hollywood movie star Gray Hudson, who is hiding after reports of his bad on-set behaviour. Short and sharp flashbacks from teenage Maggie leading up to her falling out with her aunt eight years prior also form part of the story to show how Maggie's decisions led her to the present.

I've been a fan of Sophia Money-Coutts' comedic stories that carefully balance character growth of usually upper class women undergoing life changes and a slow-burn romance, infused with her gentle humour. 'The Right Place', has all of this and more as she sensitively tackles infertility and alcoholism. Just like the hotel, Maggie is a slow work in progress, finding her confidence returning after cooking again and being free of endless fertility treatments. I also loved the scenes between Gray and Maggie, as they both find themselves drawn to each other having a similiar outlook in life and also going through infertility journeys.

This book is funny, heartwarming but also poignant. I think this is Sophia's best work.

2.5

Unfortunately this book was not for me.

First of all I wouldn’t count this as romance. You don’t meet the love interest until like 25% into the book and they don’t spend much time together at all. Both main characters are married and cheated on their spouses but there was no tension or that feeling when a good forbidden/taboo romance gets going.

There was one closed door spice scene and since I don’t like reading books like this, it felt even worse what little romance had been built didn’t result in anything. The only time I liked the couple was during the last chapter and the epilogue. I only ended up finishing the book because it was an audiobook and even then I wanted to DNF around 10%.

What I thought the book did really well was write about grief and all of the confusing emotions around being unable to have children/IVF treatments. This is a main topic in the book so massive TW for it if you’re sensitive to this topic.

I like the book's general concept and storyline. We're having a dry spell here in the UK, so the setting of the book really fits the hot summer vibe. I listened to the book rather than reading it and I have to say the American accent in the reading pissed me off a little bit, it sounded more Irish than American. I think if I had read the book instead I would've rated it a 3.75 star instead.

I really enjoyed Maggie’s story, if painful and a bit awkward at times (by design- not as a flaw). She was down to earth, even though her life was far more charmed than I could relate to, I still related to her thoughts and reactions. In my opinion, that’s a special skill and I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I’d love to know if Jaime gets a HEA as well ♡

I recently listened to The Right Place. and unfortunately, it wasn’t the best experience. The story itself had potential, but the poor narration made it really hard to enjoy and difficult to connect with the characters and follow the plot.

Additionally, I believe there should have been trigger warnings for some of the content.

Overall, while it might be a decent read, the audiobook version doesn’t do it justice. I’d recommend picking up a physical copy or trying another book instead.

This was a nice easy listen and the perfect escape holiday romance read. I really liked the main character Maggie and the beautiful setting. I also loved that the narrator was also the author. Will definitely be checking out more from this author in the future. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this audio arc.
