I found it very difficult to keep my attention on this book. I know it’s not because it’s nonfiction because I do enjoy reading nonfiction books sometimes. I think that biographies are not for me because at least with other genres, you are learning something or following a story. With a biography, it is more difficult to judge as it’s someone’s history.

For this book, I went into this expecting it to be about growing up as a minority. I thought it would focus on race and class but there was something about this that didn’t click with me.

The daughter of immigrants and civil rights activists, Vice President Kamala Harris was raised in a California community that cared deeply about social justice. As she rose to prominence as a political leader, her experiences would become her guiding light as she grappled with an array of complex issues and learned to bring a voice to the voiceless.

In The Truths We Hold, Harris reckons with the big challenges we face together. Drawing on the hard-won wisdom and insight from her own career and the work of those who have most inspired her, she communicates a vision of shared struggle, shared purpose, and shared values as we confront the great work of our day.

LOVED IT. Loved to learn about the vice-president story, her commitment on true family value. Very interesting and enlightening.

I would struggle to be able to review this book due to issues with the file/download. The issues stopped the flow of the book. The issues are:
- Missing words in the middle of sentences
- Repetitive words in the middle of sentences.
- Stop/start sentences on different lines
- No clear definition of chapters.
- Bold/not bold words throughout the page.

I’m not sure if it was a file/download issue but there were lots of gaps and stops/starts which ruined the flow. I would love the chance to read a better version as the description of the book appeals to me. I would be more than happy to re-read the book with a better file or as a physical book as the book topic and genre are of interest to me.
