The Young World by Christ Weitz certainly had a lot of potential and in some ways it really worked but there were some issues from the very start for me. Firstly, this must be the millionth YA dystopian book I've read. Surely by this point everything that could be written about in this genre has been. I do still enjoy dystopia but The Young World just didn't do anything new, the consequence was that I felt like I had read this book before.

The Young World is action packed and at times very fun but it lacked development. The plot moves along at break neck speed without the detail needed to make the reader truly care. I didn't know enough about what was going on. Just slowing it down a little to add some depth would have gone a long way.

Characters were alright. I didn't like Donna, she annoyed me constantly. Jefferson was sweet but that wasn't enough I wanted more character development. The romance between them didn't really add anything to the story and I wasn't invested in it at all.

The Young World will hold appeal for those looking for a fast paced action thriller but if you like a little more depth with your storytelling this one may not be for you.
