This book was my first holiday read of the year....and it was just okay. I tend to be a bit more forgiving of holiday romances as I love them so, but the ending of this one was not great. Neither main character can communicate, they both just jumped to conclusions and then were just never see each other again without talking! One also lied a few times which is not a great way to start off a relationship. I wanted cute cozy holiday fun, but the romance in this one was an alright but not the best. It was still an alright read.
I have read a couple of books by this author but hadn’t read any of the previous books in the tanglewood series and didn’t realise this was book 4 until I started reading as I chose it due to having the word bookshop in the title. This could definitely be read as a standalone and was a very quick cosy light hearted read that was perfect for some weekend relaxation. This book will also put you in the mood for the festive season with the culinary delights and sights and sounds and has a real community feel.
This story is a cosy, festive romance perfect for the holiday season. When Kazz loses her job and home just before Christmas, she retreats to the charming Welsh village of Tanglewood, where her best friend Stevie convinces her to open a bookshop a dream she somehow never knew she had.
As Kazz starts to settle down and adjust in this new small-town life, she finds herself drawn to a bloke, called Saul, a local with a complicated reputation. Their slow-burn romance is filled with relatable miscommunications but develops naturally alongside a delightful cast of quirky townsfolk, including the no-nonsense Betty and the lovable Donald.
The festive atmosphere, heartwarming friendships, and bookshop setting make this story a treat. While the ending felt a little rushed and left some plot points unresolved, it’s still a charming read that captures the magic of small-town life. Whether you’re revisiting Tanglewood or discovering it for the first time, this is a 4-star story full of warmth and holiday cheer!
Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo
I loved it so much!! If you love a warm and cozy book this one is for you! I would say that it resembles “The Pumpkin Spice Cafe”☕️
Thank you to NetGalley, Lilac Mills, and Canelo for this ARC copy of The Tangled Bookshop, I really enjoyed this book.
This is a charming small town Christmas love story. This story is a little predictable in some areas, but it’s an easy read and very enjoyable. The ending is a little rushed compared to some other parts of the book but if you like happily ever after’s, it should be enjoyable.
I have not read the others in the Tanglewood series but I will be adding them to my Christmas reading list.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lilac Mills, and Canelo for this ARC copy of The Tangled Bookshop, I really enjoyed this book. I gave this book 4 stars.
I’m going to start this review off by saying I have not read the previous books in this series but I enjoyed this book so much that I have added them to my Christmas time TBR.
After losing her job and her home Kazz decides to visit her friend, Stevie, in a nearby small town in England. The friends’ of Stevie immediately let her into their circle and come up with a plan for her life. Kazz will open a bookshop in Tanglewood selling the books her grandfather left. But first, she needs help lugging all the books to town.
Enter Saul, a womanizer and farmer who acts tough but is secretly emotionally scarred from his only serious relationship. Saul helps Kazz bring the books to town and finds himself terribly attracted to her. Eventually, they begin a relationship and of course, there ends up being some miscommunication.
I loved all the quirky characters in the small-town Christmas romance book. They are unique and well-developed. Betty is one of my favorite side characters, and I wish we were friends in real life. Also, Donald the sheep holds a soft spot in my heart.
This is a perfect Christmas romance that will leave you feeling warm and cozy. It does rush the ending a bit but if you love a HEA book, this one will get you in a festive mood and leave you smiling. I did laugh out loud a few times while reading this book.
Lastly, the premise of this book will always fill my book lover’s heart because what reader doesn’t want to open up a bookshop in a small town?!
Wonderful to be back in Tanglewood. This book is a quick and easy, joyful read. We meet new characters as well as old and the story is full of twists and turns. The main character is Karen who prefers to be known as Kass, and her journey from losing her job, her flat and her mum who is going to Spain, all in the same day. She moves to Tanglewood with her deceased grandad’s old furniture and vast collection of books and makes a new life for herself both by opening her bookshop and falling in love. A perfect story for Christmas.
I loved this book after not knowing what to do with her future she has to pack up her grandparents old house now with her mum moving abroad . She feels like life is going nowhere so she decides to go and stay with an old friend in tanglewood. Everyone suggests starting a bookshop seen as her grandad had so many books.
Really enjoyed it and would give the book 3.5 stars. This was definitely a fun read and perfect for the holidays. It's been awhile since I have been back to Tanglewood. I really didn't remember much about the previous characters, but as I read the book, stuff started to come back. Stevie, Leanne, Tia and Edie were all familiar but their husbands/partners were a blank in my memory. The women welcomed Kazz with open arms and immediately befriended her. Donald was the star of the book, Now I need a sheep. For being best friends with Kazz, Stevie didn't make much of an effort to hang out with her. Of course, Kazz and Saul had the same problem as the other couples in Tanglewood (there must be something in the water or fresh air), communication. They each overreacted at times and jumped to conclusions without fully knowing the truth. Fortunately, they had Betty to set them straight. The book is all about friendship, helping each other out, plus a little romance and so much more.
Definitely recommend the book and the previous ones in the series. Love the characters, story and writing style. Tanglewood sounds like a beautiful place to live. I want to be friends with everyone there, even Betty. You can't keep secrets there, everyone knows each other's business. They seem to know stuff even before it happens. Hopefully, there will be more books in the series. I need to catch up with all the couples. Look forward to reading more books by the author. Love the cover of the book!!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Canelo through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Enchanting read with plenty of cosy and romantic moments. Old characters pop up throughout and it’s lovely to catch up with them but also wonderful to meet new ones in Tanglewood and grow the community. I love these books they are pure feel good indulgence.
Thank you Netgalley
#TheTanglewoodBookshop #NetGalley A lovely sweet festive read, a little predictable at times. The ending seemed a little rushed on some storylines but overall 4/5 stars.
Such a fun read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
This was my first Christmas read of the Year and it was a great one to kick off with. Once I was hooked I couldn't stop reading and ending up binging almost 200 pages in one day. I loved so many of the characters and the setting was so cosy, and ideal for a book lover.
The Tanglewood Bookshop follows Kazz who on the same day learns she has lost her job, is being evicted and her mum is moving to Spain so she decides to visit her best friend who owns a Tea Shop in the small Welsh village of Tanglewood. Where she is given the chance to open a Bookshop and meets Saul who is happy to show her around but she has been told doesn't have the best reputation.
This was a fantastic cosy Christmas read and it included so many things I love about festive books. The characters were the ideal book lovers to follow and as a book lover reading about book lovers is always a great experience. It was also nice that compared to many other book lovers whose lives revolve around books (which there is nothing wrong with) both Kazz and Saul had other parts of their lives that were just as if not more important to them and that up until this point reading purely had just been an hobby,
I liked slowly watching the relationship between these two develop as they both for separate reasons didn't want to rush into things instead things grew naturally and they knew where they were comfortable stopping to let them get to know each other. It was a nice gradual build.
Something else I loved about this book was the setting of Tanglewood, I have now learned a this is the latest instalment in a series so I will definitely be going back and picking up some of these earlier books because I just loved meeting everyone in the small town and getting to know both them and the dynamics that have grown within the town. The Welsh setting was also nice as it is an area I am familiar with so I knew what was around and roughly how things are situated along with being able to recognise places, I know well and mean something to me.
The ending sadly did feel a bit rushed but that didn't take too much away from the overall story as it was just the last 10% roughly, and I did enjoy it even if things felt slightly too convenient.
Overall this was an easy 4 star festive romance that I couldn't put down and am so glad to have read. I will definitely be recommending and look forward to getting a physical copy to come back to in future years.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Canelo, for a free e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Book Review: The Tanglewood Bookshop by Lilac Mills
As soon as I picked up The Tanglewood Bookshop, I knew I was in for a treat. Kazz’s journey from the hustle and bustle of London to the quiet charm of a rural village resonated deeply with me. Her decision to open a bookshop in picturesque Tanglewood feels like a dream for any book lover, and I was eager to see how she would navigate this new chapter of her life.
Mills captures the essence of village life beautifully. I found myself completely immersed in Tanglewood, with its cozy atmosphere and the warmth of community. Kazz's struggles to adapt to this slower pace made her relatable, especially as she wrestles with her past and the idea of settling down.
The romance with Saul added an exciting layer to the story. Initially, I was wary of his player reputation, but as Kazz gets to know him, I was drawn into their dynamic. The tension and chemistry between them made for some delightful reading, and I appreciated how Kazz's character evolved through their interactions.
What I loved most was the festive backdrop. Mills perfectly weaves in the holiday spirit, making me feel all the cozy vibes of Christmas. It’s a heartwarming tale of second chances, and the way Kazz learns to embrace both her new life and love made me cheer for her every step of the way.
Overall, The Tanglewood Bookshop is a charming, feel-good read that left me with a smile. It’s a perfect escape for anyone looking to cozy up with a delightful romance set against the backdrop of books and a quaint village. I can't wait to see where Kazz’s journey takes her next!
A book combining two of my favourite things - bookshops and Christmas - the perfect pairing wouldn't you agree?
Not only was this my first ever visit to Tanglewood, it was also the first book I've read by Mills. It's safe to say it's not going to be my last!
Kezz has just been given the opportunity to run her very own bookshop...Is it so wrong of me to be extremely jealous of a fictional character?
The Tanglewood Bookshop is a heartwarming romance that's guaranteed to give you all the festive feels and a warm heart.
The tiny Welsh village of Tanglewood sounds perfect, it has a great community and the people who live there all seems so nice.
I absolutely loved my time in Tanglewood and I'll be visiting again very soon.
Typically I love Lilac Mills novels but this one did not really get me in the festive mood. Maybe I'll try again another day but for now I dnf'd.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cozy, heartwarming, wonderful Christmas novel!
I was so ecstatic to be back in Tanglewood, this is the 4th book set in Tanglewood and I could happily read 40 more, I love Lilac Mills writing, her community and characters, everything just feels so inviting in her books. (Although the 4th these books can easily be read as stand-alones)
I was so happy to read this was about Kazz setting up a bookshop, as any avid reader I imagine dreams like I do of being able to set up a bookshop and just chat to other readers all day whilst trying to sell books to them obviously! I enjoyed watching her journey in her new life and her relationship.
I love how easily I fall into Lilac Mills worlds, within a few pages I’m right in the middle of the community, the tea room, having a chat with Kazz, it feels like returning to family or friends, just dropping in on them as if I’ve never left Tanglewood. This is how wonderful Lilac Mills writing is.
If your looking for a heartwarming, comforting read then look no further than The Tanglewood Bookshop.

Blurb
A rural book shop. A chance to start over. But can she make her dream a reality? Kazz used to love the excitement of her London life, but lately her passion for expensive city living has begun to wane. So when she's given the opportunity to open a bookshop in picturesque Tanglewood, she jumps at the chance.
But village life is much quieter than she anticipated – is she actually suited for rural living? Resigned to a boring and uneventful Christmas, when she meets gorgeous Saul she is more than ready to have some fun and enjoy the festivities. If only Saul didn't have a reputation for being a player...
Will Kazz become the heroine in her own Christmas romance, or will he love her and leave her under the mistletoe?
My Opinion
It was lovely to be back with the residents of Tanglewood. Kazz is having a really bad day - she has lost her job, her accommodation and learned that her mother is leaving the country. For the start of a festive book it was a bit heavy but it was so nice seeing how Kazz overcame it all.
All of her friends have warned her to stay away from Saul but will she listen to them?
Filled with festivities, The Tanglewood Bookshop was a great read - I am instantly drawn to books that contain a bookshop. A heart-warming book that feels like a hug in book form.
