I thought from the introduction it was my type of book but unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book totally drew me in from the first page. I have a hard time calling it a domestic thriller though. There weren't any plot twists or crazy jaw dropping moments, but that being said I devoured this book in one day. This story goes through 3 different timelines of Emily Brigham's life and the toxic relationship she had with Liam a much older man. I would definitely suggest checking out trigger warnings with this book (abuse and grooming), but it also shows the darker side of Emily too. It lets the reader decide how much of a victim she was - and if the things she did should hold her blameworthy as well. Again, it's hard for me to peg this book down, but if you want a toxic dark domestic book I'd recommend it. Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this eARC.

The Second Marriage by Rebecca de Winter is the first novel I've read by the author. Once again, I'm delighted to read a new-to-me author who provided an excellent thriller!

This one is a gripping psychological thriller loaded with secrets, betrayal, and plenty of twists and turns. The story follows a newlywed who thought her second husband was everything her first husband wasn’t—but she quickly discovers some seriously disturbing clues, like a hidden old phone and shredded letters. Obviously nothing good comes of those, as all fellow thriller readers know!

The author did a great job of building suspense, keeping me glued from beginning to end! This is a solid four star read for me! It's already available so I recommend snagging it as soon as you can!

New husband. Old secrets.

I know it’s a cliche, but your wedding day really does go past in a blur, even if you’ve done it before. When I look back, I only remember snippets: walking down the aisle of the ballroom, my silk skirts blowing in the sea breeze…

I thought my second marriage would be different. He was everything my first husband wasn't – magnetic, successful… But I started noticing things. Small things at first, then bigger ones.

Why was there an old phone hidden in his desk? And those torn-up letters he tried to hide? At first, I thought he must be cheating, but it wasn’t that. It was a hundred times worse.

They say there's nothing like becoming someone's wife. But guess what's even more unforgettable? Becoming his widow on the same day. Did he think he was the only one with skeletons in his closet? It turns out, some secrets aren’t meant to be told...

I've read something similar to this but just forgot the title & the author, lol.

It felt like the blurb is different to the book itself. Yes, it was in the story, but not about it at all😁.

It's kinda slow for me. I like the twists but it's predictable. I like Emily's character, even if she's a bad decision maker. Many might not understand her or her decisions but she did what she think is best in the situation she's in.

The Second Marriage hooked me from the start, the duel timeline and narrators add to this domestic thriller. The character of Emily is well written and makes you feel bad for her and all she is going through. This book should have some trigger warnings so look them up before continuing.

The Second Marriage is a fantastic book exploring if 'it is possible to be the victim and the villain in your own story'. I felt all the rage reading this!

The Second Marriage is a fantastic psychological thriller. As always please read warnings!

OMG this book is so good! I had a really hard time putting it down! This book has a way of sucking you in and holding your attention. The book starts with the FMC getting interviewed in jail, and she is telling the story but it's not written in her POV if that makes since. lol.. The characters and story is written well. I enjoyed the twist as well even though I saw it coming. Great read I would recommend adding this book to your TBR if you enjoy psychological thrillers. This is a new to me author but I look forward to more books from this author.

The description sounded very good but unfortunately the book wasnt as I expected. The story is told over three timelines and I found it confusing as it jumped from one to the other. Sadly this book wasnt for me

I was a bit disappointed with this book. I felt like it was all over the place. I found myself getting bored and putting the book down often. I liked it but I couldnt say I loved it.

Rebecca de Winter has written a contemporary novel about how women, even in this modern age are often judged on their looks, before their abilities as a person.

Young women can it seems be so easily be lured into a false sense of security in relationships. This is exactly what happened with the protagonist Emily in this story. As a young woman she had an unhealthy obsessive and abusive relationship with a married man, Liam, whom she was very much in love with. In due course she is abandoned by him and ends up marrying and having a child with another man, Pete. She appears to be happy until Liam suddenly reappears in her life and everything starts to unravel.

It is suggested that this is a thriller, but I feel it fits better into the domestic drama genre. I neither loved or hated it and therefore can only suggest that it is an ok read if this sort of storyline appeals to you.

Thanks to Netgalley and Storm publishing for the opportunity to read and review 'The Second Marriage'

A great psychological thriller. The story follows 3 different timelines, Emily's story was fast paced with so many twists and turns, final one was totally unexpected.

When I read the synopsis of this book I was really intrigued, it was a powerful, dark domestic thriller that I couldn’t read fast enough. I love a book that is written in multiple timelines that slowly revealed what actually happened it pulls you in and won’t let go. Every time I thought I had guessed the twists and turns I was totally wrong and still can't believe that ending #thesecondmarriage #netgalley #2024mustread #5starread

The Second Marriage by Rebecca de Winter

The Second Marriage is a domestic thriller that goes between three timelines. The book begins with Emily being interviewed in prison following her arrest after her wedding years before. As she tells her story, you are taken on a roller coaster ride, where anything can happen. The book begins slow, with Emily seeing an ex and feelings resurfacing.

The multiple timelines actually work, keeping you drawn in, waiting to see what happens. The book definitely has a lot of trigger warnings, including con non con, non con, emotional and mental abuse and sa. This is one of those books that actually tell you who the murderer is from the very beginning, but her motives are revealed slowly.

Overall I enjoyed the story. It was slow in the beginning but when it picked up it delivered. The book is dark and twisty with surprises until the end.

Wow! What a story. From beginning to end it was a crazy ride of twists and turns that carried on right till the last word in the book. Definitely a psychological thriller! Loved the end! Emily is a great Mom and will always take care of her daughter! She will also ensure that everyone else is taken care of, Justin a different way. Excellent book!

This book is SO good!!! It is so clever how it weaves between back then, and upto now. Love the angle of her being interviewed from prison about why she did what she did and on her wedding day of all days. A brilliant book, very much in tune with the MeToo movement. It really shines a light on the bad behavior of men who are so powerful they think they can do whatever they want. And how the women they hurt will come back to get justice. Not revenge, justice. Brilliant!!!

WOW! Emily has been arrested, in her wedding dress .. Who did she kill? To find out read through this crazy, well written, unique story. I wish I had Rebecca’s imagination, as this is something I’d never be able to come up with. This novel kept me intrigued and very interested. Completely unexpected and completely enjoyable! Would highly recommend!

Firstly let me say that this is an unusual story, very well written, it covers numerous timelines but it flows well, I found it hard to put down and even harder to wonder how the story would pan out.
It begins with Naomi gaining access to prisoner Emily Brigham, Naomi wanted an interesting subject to interview for her PhD thesis and they didn't come any more interesting than Emily Brigham who was serving a sentence for manslaughter,
Emily had partied her way through college dragging her two friends to salubrious parties with wealthy older men, one such man was Liam who ran the parties, wealthy, good looking and insidiously controlling , Emily was drawn to him like a wasp to a jam pot, the relationship didn't end well.
The second phase of Emilie's life was when she met Pete, steady, loving Pete and they had their adored daughter Anouk. Emily was determined to be the cool wife, everything had to be perfect, a domestic Goddess, the best mum, being perfect ruled her life.........until it wasn't so perfect, two things happened that left her marriage, along with Emily's life, in tatters. Emily was at rock bottom and she was still searching for answers into the death of her best friend Anna, Anna who had always been there for her, had Emilie's actions led to Anna's death? that thought would always haunt her.
Finally Liam comes back into her life and Emily was again in his clutches, had he changed or was he still the deranged controlling character that he always was ? was Emily too involved to see the signs ?
This is a book that is disturbing on many levels, the characters aren't really likeable but I was drawn to them, this is the first book that I have read from Rebecca De Winter but I hope it won't be the last, I did knock one star off simply because I didn't really think that it was a psychological thriller.
Thank you Storm Publishing and Net Gallery for this ARC, me review is entirely voluntary.
