The Agarwals own a private island off the coast of Scotland which has been a source of pain and money loss for the family. There are plans for its future but it will either return the family to their former closeness or see them irrevocably torn apart? Each family member returns to the island at the invitation of Raj, the patriarch and business tycoon, to learn about their futures. Not every one will make it off alive, however.
I adored how this story was set up. Every character had as much to gain as they had to lose by the outcome of their return to the island. Each one seemed capable of inflicting pain to all the others and so when a murder was announced I was equally suspicious of all of them.
The storyline seemed to meander slowly for some time, but this was a clever misdirection by the author, as I never saw the conclusion coming or the multiple twists that were delivered along the way to it. Each was suspect yet all had alibis. Each was guilty, but of what remained to be seen for some time.
This was a clever and unsettling story and I really enjoyed my time with it. This is an author I will definitely return to!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, Trisha Sakhlecha, and the publisher, Century, for this opportunity.

A solidly written but predictable thriller thatis more about the darkness of secrets and family ties than tbe mystery it is pitched as. Sakhlecha shows promise with her character work but her plotting remains a work in progress.

Wow I loved this, so twisty and I couldn't put it down. I liked that this was based on an Indian family as it made it a bit different to the norm. The ending was great as I was expecting papa to be murdered not Zoe. I get it was very well executed and I've glad I've read it

I liked the premise of the book - how far you are prepared to go for family, what guilt can make you do and who you can really rely on - and the dual perspective we get with Zoe and Myra. It shows how differently they see the members of the family and what role they play in the family dynamic.
Myra is the eldest of the three Agarwal siblings, a retired lawyer and now the proud owner of a Scottish island where the family reunion is being held. Her husband (whose name is Owen, a TRAUMA surgeon who was in the war - Greys Anatomy anyone?) tries to win her back by cutting her off, yeah that would totally work on me. Her sister Aisha, the youngest, brings her latest boyfriend to the reunion, who is not exactly welcomed with open arms. The middle child and only son Aseem is the husband of Zoe and oh boy is he bad at that job. He's a momma's boy through and through and even though we get an explanation later in the book as to why he is that comitted and loyal to his mother, I still hate him and can't get over it. Zoe is quite miserable and just wants to start a family of her own. There's only one thing stopping her, and that's Shalini. Oh how I hate that woman with a passion. She truly is a monster in law and everybody is enabling her. The father was also pretty annoying but also pretty predictable.
All in all, I still thought it was a good thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page.
This is a Netgalley arc review. Thank you to the publisher as well as Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book!

Although a bit bit of slow burner, it is well worth sticking with this book. Beautifully written and truly a masterpiece.

One of the best books I’ve read this year! It brought out so many emotions in me and I absolutely loved it. Put it on your ‘to read’ list – you won’t be disappointed. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the early copy.

The Agarwals are a superwealthy family and they are all gathering on a private island off the west coast of Scotland to find out how the money will be split when the father sells his Delhi based company. Fragile matriarch Shalini and the three adult children Myra, Aseem and Aisha circle around past secrets and hurts while Aseem's wife Zoe won't toe the line. Everyone has their own plans for the money and the messy family dynamic means that disaster is inevitable.
I just loved this book. A great pacy read with a range of characters who aren't particularly likeable. I couldn't put it down.

I received a free arc of this book from net galley in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars
I loved this book, the characters were believable and likeable and the book was a fast paced page turner from the off.
The book is from multiple point of views and follows 2 slightly different timelines, but all of this was super easy to follow.
Loved the twist at the end and I wasn’t left with any unanswered questions!
I will definitely check out other books by this author.

This thrilling novel kept me guessing until the last twist which I did not see coming at all. The story is set on an island where the whole Agarwal family are there to celebrate their parents' 4oth anniversary. An added bonus is their father is due to sell the business and to give the profits to his children. The island has been bought my daughter Myra whose plans to develop it into a top holiday destination have hit financial difficulties. Myra's estranged husband, Owen is pressing for the island to be sold. Aseem and his wife Zoe have cared for their father after he had a stroke and believe they are about to receive a big pay out. Third sibling Aisha wants to marry Gabriel her fiance. When the sale is cancelled there are motives for murder galore. I failed to guess who would be killed and the killer but I completely enjoyed reading this book.

A gripping read, with a great storyline, and characters who are mainly appalling. It is impossible not to get caught up in the family feuds, and the ending is completely unexpected. I would definitely recommend this book.

A story filled with family secrets and murder and a host of unlikeable characters. The descriptions of the manor house and surrounding area are very well written it's a place you feel you'd like to visit. I did find it a slow pacing start and would have liked a bit more action early on, and it left me wondering where it was all leading to, but everything was tied up nicely in the end.
Overall, it's a good read.
Thanks to Netgalley Random House UK for the ARC.

"The Inheritance" by Trisha Sakhlecha is a gripping novel that delves into family dynamics and the complexities of legacy, offering a compelling narrative with rich character development and emotional depth. It's definitely worth a read if you like edge of your seat!!

I adored this book, I took this away as a holiday read and it did not disappoint. The plot and pacing where superb, and I would thoroughly recommend

I really enjoyed the writing style and I actually quite liked that the majority of this book is domestic family drama (which was relatable even though I'm not from a millionaire family 🤣). The main action doesn't really happen until well over halfway through the book, but it never felt slow.
This book is full of secrets that are hinted at in passing, which did get a little frustrating for me as apparently i am quite impatient and just wanted to know what was being alluded to. The ending had me in shock and I loved it. 100% didn't see it coming.

I found parts of the book a little slow but so glad I preserved - what a wonderful ending & totally worth reading the book for. The characters were very well written even if I couldn’t relate to them. The story in its entirety was well conceived. Overall I enjoyed the story.

I would definitely say that the inheritance is a slow burn……. But it’s so worth it!!!
Almost everything exciting happens in the last 90 pages of the book, with only small glimpses of something tragic that is pending throughout.
It’s a great story of family and what ties each individual to the greater good of each other whilst also focusing on the relationships formed individually that can tear them apart.
I really enjoyed the story and the characters but for me the ending totally made it. At two thirds through the book I was just wondering where this could possible be heading and not sure if to finish.
I’m so glad I did! I would definitely recommend this book!

This book gripped me from page one. Loved the writing style and the Agarwal family who are not as "together' and happy as they seem. At the latest gathering, family secrets come spilling out and, once the genie is out of the bottle you can never put it back. Just what is so bad a secret though that you'd literally kill to protect it? This is one of the best books I've read in ages and well deserves 5 stars.

A rich Indian family from Delhi arrive on an isolated Scottish Island which is owned by the eldest daughter, they are there to celebrate the parents 40th wedding anniversary. The son is trying hard to negotiate a deal to sell the family business but does the father really want to sell?
3 daughters and a son are all desperate for the multi million pound payout they expect from the sale. Papa is obviously in charge and mama is just an interfering old lady. As tension builds buried family secrets emerge, a storm means that they cannot leave the island.........When one of the is killed can they all pull together to solve it or does it drive them further apart?

A family drama like no other! I was in two minds whether to request this ARC from NetGalley but I am so very glad that I did.
The story leads us into a family get together on a very lonely Scottish island. The regular staff are given time off so it just ‘family’………. And in the very best Scottish accent “There’s a murder”
If it was just that that the novel hinged on then it would have been just another who dun’ it but this family drama goes way above and beyond.
Trisha Sakhlecha guides the reader through the family dynamics, and believe me this is no mean feat, but the reader is never left behind; in fact I was romping my way through this novel just to find out just who was the goody and who was the baddy.
Alas I was way off in my detective skills as when I was just getting my head around one plot twist I was sucker punched with another that quite honestly left me reeling.
The Inheritance is a great novel and the fly leaf description doesn’t go anywhere near doing it justice. Best thing to do is go out and buy your copy on the publishing date 13th Feb 2025.
Sincere thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Uk for my ARC of The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha in return for the above honest and unbiased review. I think my 5 star will be one of many..!

I really enjoyed this book. The story is about the Agarwal family. There is Raj the dad, his wife and three children, two daughters and a son. Myra, Aseem and Aisha. Myra left a stressful job and brought, with her husband, an island in Scotland. Aseem has moved back to Delhi with his wife, Zoe, to help run the multi million pound business after Raj had a stroke. Aisha is a little flaky and does her own thing with not a great deal of success. It was decided that the business would be sold and it was to be discussed at a family holiday on the island in Scotland. The family are all going on this trip to celebrate Raj and his wife’s 40th wedding anniversary. The holiday starts well but there are tensions amongst the siblings particularly as Aisha brings her current boyfriend with her which was not expected. The family did not take to him and wonder whether he is a gold digger. As the story proceeds it become clear that Raj has changed his mind about selling the business and Aseem particularly is furious as he has committed so much time setting up the sale. The other two children are unhappy as they were told that when the business was sold their dad would help them financially. As the story progresses more and more drama ensues. The characters are all different and I took to them all. The book continues and then suddenly the murder happens. The family stick together and you do not know until the end of the book who was guilty. A great tease
