Haley Smith has long become an auto-buy author for me. Her third thriller is no exception to the first two gripping thrillers.

The childcare circle are a group of parents who take turns to care for the children each weekday after school. The arrangement is working perfectly, until each parent receives an ominous letter threatening to reveal their secrets. We are soon delivered several twists, as each parent’s deepest secrets are revealed and no one is innocent… but as more than one is revealed to be implicated in another’s secret, will everyone leave alive?

An atmospheric, chilling, page turner. It really kicks up a gear once the parents begin their weekend away in an eery old house on an eroding cliff edge. Twist after twist. Impossible to put down. The ending will leave you thinking about it long after you’ve put it down.

A group of parents come together to form a babysitting circle. Each takes their turn with the children. Everything seems to be working out just fine. But as we all know there are many secrets behind closed doors.
Then the parents recieve a note. Telling them that the author knows of their secret. What do they have to hide.
Things come to a head when a trip for the daters and their children is made to the coast. On there arrival at the deserted holiday home it sound becomes apparent that more than one member of the party have memories of this place.

This book was a slow start as we were introduced to the characters. But the pace soon picked up. It was an engrossing read to the end.

After reading a different very slow moving book, “The Childminder” was exactly what I needed to get back into reading! This book is what I would call a bite sized thriller. It moves quickly, and keeps you hooked so much you can’t stop turning the pages. I didn’t see the ending coming, and it was still believeable. Overall, an enjoyable read!

I enjoyed this book, the first I have read but have read similar style books from this publisher. This seemed like a book I would enjoy so was keen to pick it up,

An interesting psychological thriller that explores a group of parents who take it in turns to look after their children for free, but can they all be trusted and what goes on behind closed doors? A note is received and a weekend away, brings everything to a head, with lots of twists and turns along the way. Very engrossing and cant wait to find out what happens next with some great atmospheric writing from this author helps you imagine the scene and locations in this book.

A solid 4 stars for this entertaining book

I look forward to finding out what comes next from this author.

A big thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for the opportunity to read and review this book.

What a book! The author has created a story that keeps you guessing right until the end. Just as I thought I had figured out what happened, the twist at the end completely catches you by surprise!
A must read for those who want to keep guessing all the way until the end of the book.

This book was really good!! As someone with personal experience with Erb's Palsy, I loved that it was a part of this book. It was refreshing to see that disability given a voice. I've never seen that mentioned in a book, so I loved that. At times, this book was heartbreaking. The premise of this book was unique, which is always refreshing in a genre where all the storylines resemble each other.

The characters were very well developed. This story unfolds in dual timelines, which provided depth to the plot. This book is full of twists and lies, and has an ending that packs a punch! This book pulled me in from the very beginning, and it kept me fully invested right up until the end.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This one takes a while to get going. There is a lot of backstory and setup, but once things get moving along, there are a lot of twisty paths and secrets spilled. I absolutely loved the idea of a group of parents, each taking a turn at one day of the week to gather up the kidlets after school. In theory that sounds fabulous, but in practice perhaps not so much!! Because...who can you really trust? Three of the five in this group have a history, but the other two are outside the clique, and don't feel very welcome. There are many secrets to be revealed, and it was a gripping read that I didn't want to put down until it was all figured out.

Having previously read and enjoyed Such a Loving Couple by Smith, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed by The Childminder.

It's a fast paced psychological thriller that's crammed with unexpected twists and ubiquitous lies.

The characters are not all as they seem, so when they all receive a letter giving them five days in which to tell the truth you know things are about to explode and their secrets exposed.

A dark, addictive read that's unputdownable!

“You trust them with your kid. You shouldn’t.”

This was a great thriller that you will want to keep reading to find out what is going on! There were some surprising twists and were not predictable. The ending was a surprise! This book has layers that fit atop each other perfectly. I did feel the storyline dragged on a bit.

I think this weekend I must not have been in the right mindset for most of the books I picked up. I love this publisher. The books are always a hit with me. But this one was just okay. It has to be me.

This book was a wild ride of twists and turns. The multiple POV and time jumps are done well so they don’t feel confusing. I love a book that sprinkles clues throughout that make you this ‘ahh I remember that’ when something is revealed and this book does that perfectly! 10/10 recommend for any psychological thriller lovers!

This story will grab your interest from the beginning to the very end. The Child Care Circle is made up of 4 mothers and one dad. Each is assigned a specific day to pick up the 5 children and feed them and watch them until 6PM pickup time. They all have dark secrets from their past. As a treat they plan a getaway with the children for a weekend at a beach house. Secrets are exposed and lives hang in the balance. The end has a twist I never saw coming. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and highly recommend it.

Review for 'the Childminder' by Hayley Smith.

This book is fantastically written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all feeling the hair raise on your arms and feeling the sweat run down your back.

WHAT did I just read!!!! WOW!!! I mean seriously Wow!! I was NOT expecting that lot fair play!!! This has GOT to start with a MASSIVE WELL DONE HAYLEY!!! Ooopps sorry, yes, needed a minute to get over that but I've just left you hanging there... Sorry.... Let me tell you more...

Firstly let's start off with the writing style, etc!! This book is an extremely well written book by this amazing author and had me gripped hook line and sinker!!! It is so smoothly and fantastically written with vivid and evocative descriptions I completely forgot I was even reading a book a few times. The blurb, title and cover really fit the storyline. Hayley's storytelling skills creates an absolutely explosive and addictive storyline that had me hooked from the gripping first chapter to the absolutely shocking ending!!!

As you can tell I LOVED the storyline. I found it to be realistic, very fast paced and I read it in just several hours!!! I loved the setting, characters, atmosphere and just well... Everything!!! Twists after shocks after turns!!! Arggghhh... Its so hard to NOT say anything about them as it will give too much away and spoil it for future readers but it definitely left me speechless over and over!!! I have read hundreds of psychological books and it gets harder and harder to keep my interest and to shock me but these fantastic authors managed it hook, line and sinker Just brilliant fair play and all links in and wraps up perfectly!!! During the book Hayley builds the tension and suspense perfectly and lead the readers up to some extremely explosive twists that I would never have seen coming. I cannot remember the last time I flew through a book so quickly. Each and every time I went to put it down to do something my fingers were itching to pick it back up as I just HAD to know what happened next!! Hayley's evocative writing skills ensure you are sucked deep into the storyline seeing everything that is happening and feeling the tension, stress and suspense that each of the main characters are going through. Hayley does an absolutely brilliant job of weaving multiple protagonist perspectives together without causing any confusion to who is saying, doing and feeling what. My heart was in my throat throughout reading this fast paced, gripping and gritty psychological thriller! I just cannot wait to get stuck into more books by this absolutely epic author and I have added all her previous books to my wish list already and look forward to what she come out with next!! It is ram packed with family, lies, twists, drama ,heartbreak, secrets, twists, tension, stress, suspense and everything you could ask for in a psychological thriller. I can't say more than that as I don't want to spoil it for future readers so if you want to know you'll have to grab yourself a copy!! You won't regret it!!

Just like with the storyline the characters come to life with Hayley's fantastic and evocative writing skills. Every one of the characters are well rounded, well filled out, realistic and strong making them all the more believable. They all have their own flaws, strengths, weaknesses and secrets. They were also all very complex and the further I got into the book and the more I got to know them it felt like I was discovering more layers the more I read. Hayley really did a brilliant job in giving them their own unique and individual personalities and ensuring they all came to life. Regardless whether I loved or hated them I was invested in them all and they all created this fantastic and nail biting page turner. I cannot say anymore about them as I do not want to risk giving anything away as this really is a gripping book that you must read yourselves!! I guarantee that you will not regret it! Hayley really has done an amazing job constructing an addictive and explosive psychological thriller with fantastic and varied characters that you just won't be able to put down!!

Congratulations Hayley on yet another absolutely explosive success!!! This is the exact reason that you are in my favourite author club!! Here's to many more successes 🥂!!!

Clear your schedules before picking this up as you will not be able to put it down!!!

Overall an absolutely page turning, addictive, gripping and explosive must read that will keep you addicted from the very start to the fantastic ending!!!

really enjoy this author! One dad and four moms form a parent group. Each day of the week, one parent watches all the kids after school until 6pm. All of the parents receive a letter about revealing their darkest secrets. Then they get a text about paying to keep those secrets. While on edge, they all decide to get away for a weekend together. But there is something more sinister happening. The house and that weekend isn’t what they had planned it to be, but it’s something that someone planned it to be.

Smith has written so many layers and pieces into this novel that all nicely fit on top of each other and interlock nicely by the time you reach the end of the book. Part of the mystery is revealed half way, but there is still more mystery and thrills to come. There are reveals from that point until the very end! This is definitely one of those books that will keep you guessing.

I enjoyed all the characters, and the fact that they all had a secret that made them each a little untrustworthy, but there wasn’t anything to make you really dislike them. This, for me, made me want to keep reading. I find it hard when I don’t like the characters.

This isn’t a hardcore thriller book, but maybe a thriller light. Either way, thriller lovers will enjoy it!

The Childminder was a well written thriller. A group of parents take their children to the coast for a weekend away. Little do they know, they have been lured there but by whom and why slowly unravels. This is a slow burn with tons of twists and turns.

I’ve read all three of Hayley Smith’s books now and she has blown me away with each one. This latest psychological thriller from her is filled with secretive characters and twists, especially at the end.

Thank you, Hayley Smith, Bookouture, & Netgalley for my early copy! All opinions are my own.

I was torn on how to rate this one. I overall enjoyed the book but the big reveal on how Dylan died was so ridiculous to me. I can’t comprehend how the person to blame didn’t say something. How they just left that situation without going back for him. My other problem was I didn’t like any of the characters. I felt no connection to any of them. I liked the twists and turns of this book otherwise. The big one at the end was shocking. My rating for this is a 3.5
