Thank you, Shari and Bookouture, for the opportunity to be one of the early readers of this book. I'm so grateful and delighted!
My Husband's Past is a thriller that features Jessica and Griffin, a seemingly perfect couple whose lives are turned upside down when a long-lost email from a missing friend surfaces. As they delve deeper into the mystery, they uncover a web of lies, secrets, and a past filled with trauma that threatens to shatter their carefully constructed world.
The author masterfully builds suspense, slowly unraveling the truth in a way that keeps you guessing until the very last page. The twists and turns are truly shocking. The book explores the complexities of friendship, family, and marriage, and how the weight of the past can haunt us even in the present. It's a story about the power of secrets, the fragility of trust, and the lengths we'll go to protect those we love.
Overall, it's a definite YES and I'll be recommending this to my friends! This book has made me want to read her other works.
Wow I certainly didn’t see that ending coming! Once I started this book, I raced through it. It’s a greatly enjoyable domestic thriller.
This is my first book by this author, however it certainly won’t be the last.
To say this book takes you on a wild ride is a vast understatement. It’s the first thriller in a while that’s had me completely engrossed in the action, not wanting to put it down. My brain went crazy trying to figure out how it was all going to play out.
For the first half of the book, I was like “wow, this is absolutely a 5-star read!”. I was hooked. As the action really picks up and some of the twists are revealed, there is a suspension of belief required. I’m not against some level of far-fetched storylines though and was still completely engaged in the plot.
What unfortunately dropped a star off was the ending. Even after reading the last page, I flipped a couple more pages and thought “that’s it?”. I wouldn’t call it a cliffhanger per say, but there’s definitely loose ends with no sequel in sight, which as a reader is frustrating. I get that sometimes the author wants to leave what happens up to the reader’s imagination, but there were too many gaps to do that with this one IMO.
I can’t overlook the absolute roller coaster of a story this was though. It had me hanging on for dear life, and I truly enjoyed it. If you’re looking for an easy-to-read, fast-paced domestic thriller filled with heart-pounding anxiety/tension and crazy twists, this is absolutely the book for you!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this digital ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
I honestly loved this book. It caught me since I saw the title and cover. The plot, the writing, the characters, all was a very good book.
I thought the premise of this book was really interesting... Jessica receives an email from her long thought to be decreased childhood best friend stating her new husband is not who she thinks he is..
There was just a lot of parts that seemed unreasonable... her two kids getting involved in this mess, her daughter acting like a grown up... and while the ending was good, it just seemed really confusing to get there. It was just a bit too chaotic.
Thanks to NetGalley for my free ARC in exchange for an honest review of the book.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC.
Jessica is happily remarried to Griffin, a beloved elementary teacher, living the typical busy life with her 2 kids from her previous marriage until she receives a startling email. Her childhood best friend who disappeared from a bonfire their senior year and has never been found e-mails her that she was kidnapped and held by her boyfriend and is hiding and warns her that she is in danger too and it is her husband, Griifin!! There are so many questions as to is it really Izzy and why is she reaching out now, what happened and do Jess and Griffin really know each other. This one made me buckle up for the ride fast and incorporated lots of twists. Although I was unable to predict the ending I was left hoping for a different resolution in the plot but also with the character development. I still couldn’t put it down!
This book kept you on the edge of your seat and wanting to figure out what was going on. Just as you thought you might know what happened something else happens. Absolutely blown away
Thanks to NetGalley for my arc. This is first person dual timeline with diary entries included. Jess got an email one morning from her deceased best friend over twenty years ago saying that Jess’s husband is not who Jess thinks he is and that she and her children are in danger but the email is suspicious because Izzy had disappeared years ago. We get Jess in current time and Izzy in past time, the story is well written and the characters are really great too. I love the twists and it’s such a fun and fast read. The ending was woah. I thought I had it all figured out but I guess I was wrong lol.
Jess has managed to put the disappearance of her best friend Izzie behind and built a life of her own. She has the perfect life: a perfect husband, perfect children, and a beautiful home and then.... boom! she gets an email from Izzie's old email account not only claiming she's still alive but also warning her that her husband is behind her disappearance...
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!! the story is gripping and there are so many twists and turns I kept turning the pages. The ending is so good and satisfying!!
One thing to note is that I received an uncorrected copy and boy, does it show. I don't like being too critical about (uncorrected) advanced copies. I have read a lot of uncorrected arcs from Netgalley and never seen so many errors including basic grammatical errors. In my opinion this novel needs some serious review and editing to reach its potential. I am only pointing this out because I loved the story and really want to help as the errors were very distracting.
This book grips you from the first chapter. There are a lot of twists and turns, but at some point it becomes far fetched. The ending, while solved isn't satisfying. Overall its an entertaining read, but not my favorite of this genre. 3.5 stars.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc. I was very intrigued by the plot, however, it really took over half the book to get to the action. I liked the characters and felt for the main character. Loved the twist.
Jess seems to have it all, a loving husband, two kids, a booming coffee shop, and a healthy coparenting relationship with her ex-husband. Her life comes to a screeching halt when she receives an email from her best friend who disappeared two decades prior. This email includes a big accusation about her current husband that sends Jess into a tailspin.
I blew through this book. The action starts within the first couple pages, and it is extremely fast-paced from there.
Typically, in a thriller, you have some sort of idea of what’s going on. This is not one of those books. I had not one guess throughout the entire book that was not disproven within a chapter or two.
This book successfully got me out of a reading slump, and I will be on the lookout for more books by Shari J. Ryan.
This book completely blew me away. It is jam packed with twists and turns. The suspense is crazy and you will be so suprised with how this story goes. Absolutely loved this. I was hooked. So so good!
OMG, THIS BOOK IS CRAZY....GOOD!
I don't want to give any spoilers away. I'm a tough critic, especially when it comes to thrillers. I read this simply because it was offered as a "read now" & I needed a book. I didn't have any expectations.
The book seems straightforward and then.....BAM!
Read if you're enjoy books where your mind is blown.
I rate it 4 out of 5 Izzy AOL emails.
I quite enjoyed this book but found it a bit slow . I was very disappointed with the end after plodding through it for days . It was an ok book but nothing outstanding . I give this book 4 stars
Did Griffin do it? That's the question facing Jess, who has just received a letter purportedly from her friend Izzy who went missing over 20 years ago. And Izzy's accusing Griffin of stalking her. Who can Jess trust? You might think you know what's happened part way through this and then - pow- there's a twist. No spoilers from me. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A page turner.
This was a wild ride, and I loved it. The flashbacks really threw me off course but also had some of my favourite parts. The letters? So fun. In hindsight, I should've seen the ending coming, and I didn't at all. It was paced well. When I thought I had it figured out, another twist threw me off my tracks. Very thrilling. I enjoyed this read very much.
This was am interesting read. It started off kind of slow and repetitive, but it did pick up speed. Some of the plot was a little far fetched. I would give this one 3 stars..
Thank you for the opportunity to read "My Husband's past"!
It was my first book by Shari J. Ryan and definitely won't be the last. The plot was thrilling and I didn't know who to believe up until the end! It did kinda end on a cliffhanger which I didn't expect and made me which for a little bit of a different ending, for the reader to experience a little bit more of the vengeance!
My Husbands past is a thriller that just kept you on the edge of your seat. It really made you think ,how well does a wife really know there husbands? What are they keeping from you?
