In this fun and charming modern romance novel, readers join Laurie Ellis and her dog Max as they relocate from the city to the small town of Starr’s Fall in the hopes of a fresh start and discovering her birth mother’s identity. Ready to start over by opening a pet store and bakery, Laurie hopes that this small community will welcome her. However, Joshua Reilly, the grumpy yet handsome bookstore manager across the street, has nothing nice to say to Laurie. Will her determination to start over outlast Joshua’s eternal grumpiness? In this classic small town grumpy and sunshine romance, readers get to see Joshua and Laurie’s relationship grow over the course of the novel and go on their own personal journeys towards peace and a happily ever after. The characters are the real star of this novel, and Starr’s Fall is also a character given its importance to Laurie and Joshua’s backstories and their futures; Hewitt has done a masterful job bringing her characters and this world to life in such vibrant detail. With incredible characters, a beautiful small town setting, and a great emotional storyline, readers will love the cozy fall vibes of Kate Hewitt’s latest novel and Joshua and Laurie’s relationship.
A cute and cozy story perfect for anyone who can appreciate autumn. Laurie and her little pup are moving from the big city to the small town of Starr’s Fall for a fresh start and to get answers about her past. Ready to open a pet store/bakery, she quickly learns just how supportive a small town can be, even with a grumpy curmudgeon across the street. However, when it comes to Laurie’s tragic past, things are less smooth sailing until she gets the unlikely help of a longtime resident.
I thought this was a cute (although a little cheesy at times) novel, that was great for getting into the spirit of fall, Gilmore Girls vibes and all.
Thank you to Boldwood Books for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Loved this book so much! Such a heart warming cozy read. Highly recommend if you want a cozy easy read this holiday season.
New small business owner in town and across the street from fellow small business owner who is know as the towns grump. Can she change his attitude and mood towards life and people?
An emotional and thought-provoking book that touched on some heavy topics. The author handled the themes with care, and the writing was both beautiful and poignant. While not a light read, it left a lasting impression. The characters felt real, and I appreciated the depth of their emotions. A powerful novel that’s worth picking up if you enjoy deeper, introspective stories.

Read the book and find out.Lots of great characters.
This is a sweet, small town romance! I enjoyed getting to know all of the characters and to imagine visiting the lovely Starr's Fall. Laurie, the main character, comes to town to seek out family connections. She has none, having been raised in the foster care system, and all she has is a name and hometown of her birthmother to go on.
That ends up being less of a focus in the book, but we do see Laurie develop close relationships and found family within the small town. I loved that it was set in fall, and the town is described beautifully! It does have a lot going on, and some of the story lines felt rushed/incomplete. I hope to read more books in this series. I look forward to going back to Starr's Fall!
If you loved The Pumpkin Spice Cafe then you'll like this book even better. With a much better story line that follows a woman trying to find a purpose to life she travels to Starr's Fall, the only connection to a family she's never known. There she starts a business and finds her own family, even if they're not related. I really loved the story of found family, new love and finding your purpose. I will definitely be checking out more of Kate Hewitt's books.
Such a charming read! It was easy to transport myself to Starr’s Fall, thanks to the author’s delightful storytelling. I look forward to the next installment!
Coming to Home to Starr’s Fall is a touching, feel-good, small town romance that still goes into difficult topics like growing up in the foster system, grief and longing for family/personal connections.
The book created an amazing environment, and it’s lovely to see Laurie resourcefulness, stepping outside of her conform zone and create a connection with the different people in the town.
I would have liked to have see more of the growing romantic relationship between the two main characters, as it seems that we were told about the developments, but not enough was actually shown on the story. Additionally, something that I would have enjoyed to see more of would be the relationship and story of the matriarch of the Starr’s family.
Still, it was a lovely book with an easy to read and follow story. I would be interested in reading what will happen next in Starr’s town.
Thank you, NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Cute, quick, fall read. Reminded me of a Hallmark or Lifetime movie. If you are looking for a cozy book to read with your pumpkin spice latte, this is it!
A really lovely heartwarming read. I enjoyed this story immensely as I do all of Kare Hewitts books set in an idyllic location it featured Laurie who has had such a tough life that you immediately warm to and take her to your heart as you really hope she finds the happiness she deserves. When she moves to Starr's fall to open her pet and bakery story she meets Joshua who is struggling with relationship issues but somehow they hit it off and as she finds other residents she is warmly welcomed and really hope she can finally be happy.Im really looking forward to the next book in this series I loved it
I enjoyed Coming Home to Starr's Fall. It is a great romance and hits all the right notes for me. Dogs and fall! I loved the small-town cozy vibe. I wish I lived in a place like that. It is perfect for the fall season.
I chose this purely for the beautiful Autumn cover! Thankfully it was just as heartwarming as the cover. Laurie and her cute dog Max move
To Starrs Falls to find her birth mother. She immediately is swept into the bosom of this quaint town and meets cutie bookstore owner Josh. Little mystery and a little romance make this novel. Can't wait for more from
This quaint town
This was a super cute, slow burn, small town romance. I loved the autumn feel of this book and how it loosely reminds me of Gilmore Girls. Just the vibe. I love small town romances and set in fall for me is chefs kiss! I liked that Laurie was opening a pet bakery/store. I also liked the aspect of trying to find her birth mom. The romance was super slow but it made it feel more realistic. All in all, I enjoyed this one.
Unfortunately, Welcome Home to Starr's Fall didn’t quite meet my expectations. I went in with an open mind, not expecting too much, but I still found myself feeling disappointed by the end. The story felt very superficial, lacking depth and emotional engagement.
The characters didn’t resonate with me, and the plot didn’t manage to pull me in. There was a real lack of connection, and I found it hard to care about what happened next. It had potential, but the overall execution felt flat, leaving me feeling detached from the story.
While the setting had some charm, I wish the narrative had given more to truly hook the reader and invest them emotionally. Sadly, it didn’t leave much of an impression.
Perfect for fans of the Gilmore girls for the autumn evenings. Laurie moves and sets up a pet bakery. Time for Laurie to rebuild. Will she be welcomed into the community?
Coming Home to Starr’s Fall gave me a beautiful book to curl up with and enjoy meeting new people. Being in a small town in Autumn along with Laurie Ellis as she moves to Connecticut to open a pet shop combined with a bakery for dogs. Her dog Max is her companion on this journey to start her new life.
Laurie meets Joshua Reilly who is not an overly friendly guy who owns a bookstore.
As I was reading this book, I felt like I was with them both. I am glad I got to read this book which is the first in a new series.
Thank you NetGalley, Kate Hewitt and Boldwood Books for the copy of Coming Home to Starr’s Fall. This is my personal review.
This was a wonderful story of hope and optimism and learning to find family amongst the friends you have. I really loved the characters of Joshua and Laurie and I am very much looking forward to the next Starrs Fall book.
The story line was cute for a fall read. I didn't think the character development was great and found myself skimming through to just get to the end of the book. I wasn't ooing and awing at the end of the book when the main characters were together. Didn't seem believable.
"Coming Home to Starr’s Fall" is a cozy autumn romance that captures the charm of small-town life. With a delightful grumpy-sunshine dynamic and vivid descriptions of pumpkin spice and falling leaves, it’s the perfect fall read. While familiar tropes abound, the warmth of the community and relatable characters make it a delightful escape. A heartwarming story that will leave you wanting more!
