It could've been better.
Caitlin Shaw hasn’t set foot in her home village since her girlfriend Livy was accused of killing her mother Theresa, and committed to a secure psychiatric hospital. Now a grown woman and a mother herself, Caitlin is forced to return to care for her ailing mother, her father having passed away. But Theresa’s murder hangs over her like a cloud. And she feels like she’s being watched. When Caitlin learns that Livy has recently been released, it compounds her fear and guilt. She is forced to address what happened all those years ago. Caitlin’s father was Livy’s therapist before the murder took place. He uncovered a history of abuse, and so when he was dragged into the investigation, Caitlin was stunned he didn’t do more to help. But now her father is dead, and Caitlin has more questions than answers. Why did Livy murder her own mother? Could the truth be closer to home than she realises? Caitlin might soon wish she never came back…
The koode ends didn't tie well enough for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for giving me an advance copy.
Unfortunately I stopped reading this book at 30% the writing style wasn’t for me and it really made me struggle to read the rest of this book.
I enjoyed the beginning of this book. Found the premise really intriguing and enjoyed the slow build tense middle however I personally really struggled with the ending. I'm not sure whether it was the pace or the introduction of a certain character but I truly struggled to keep up and follow what was happening which made me lose some interest. Possible a personal problem.
Full of twists but I didn’t love the writing style unfortunately, a brilliant story but I was slightly disappointed by the ending. However please read it yourselves and see what you think, everyone has very different taste and it’s important not to let other peoples opinions put you off.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC
Thanks to NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for the ARC.
I was not able to follow the storyline. It dragged on and seemed to spend too much time on irrelevant people in the story. At the very end I did not get the plot twist and was left utterly confused.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bloohound Books for the opportunity to read this ARC!
The multi POV aspect of this book really supported the whole narrative.
I do feel like the book was a little on the long side.
The book offers an intriguing premise with complex family dynamics, but the pacing felt slow at times, and I struggled to fully connect with the characters. While the psychological elements were interesting, the overall plot didn't grip me as much as I'd hoped. A decent read, but not a standout for me.
I liked the premise of the book but found it difficult to get into. It very complicated with lots of twists but I found it hard to emphasise with any of the characters. While it’s not for me, it might interest those who love a twisty psychological thriller.
I found parts of the book really intriguing and well written but some parts just felt that they went on into either to much detail or did not really feel like they fit the story. Overall an okay mystery book.
This book was a 2.5 that I generously rounded up to a 3. It really wasn't that good at all. So much back and forth, and it's really hard to keep things straight in the story. And the end throws in a paranormal element, when the book had not been that way at all. This book was just not for me.
This was not one of my favorites to be honest. The author’s writing style was very confusing. It was difficult for me to complete this book. I was very confused while reading and I am still confused after finishing!
The premise of this book sounded interesting but I found it confusing & the style of writing didn't gel with me. I couldn't seem to make a connection with any of the characters & my rule of thumb is, if you get to 20% & couldn't care less what happens to anyone it's time to move on. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
2.5 rounded up.
This is a thriller with supernatural elements, multiple perspectives on then and now timelines is how the story is told to us. I don’t think the writing was for me, the characters seemed to drift off a lot and I found myself having to reread paragraphs multiple times per chapter which is unusual for me and I found frustrating.
The story has a now and then timeline with multiple characters perspectives, namely trying to discover the murderer of Theresa from 15 years prior.
Many thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.
It’s not often that I finish a book scratching my head, puzzled as to what the ending of the book was - but this book definitely, and rather unfortunately, left me puzzled. As I closed the book, I honestly cannot say “who” the killer was/is, or, who is supposed to be the “bad guy”, although I suppose each character can be one depending on your opinion and perhaps that is what the author was going for.
Although I am not a fan of the ending, I did love the plot - most of the time. I love when a book excels at dual timelines and differing points of views to tell each chapter, and this book absolutely did that. I loved reading from the perspectives of Jill, Caitlin, and Livy. The character development was solid.
I love deep, dark psychological thrillers and this most certainly was that, I just wish the author did a better job at tying everything together and painting a better picture for the reader. There were random inserts of “paranormal” activity which I felt was irrelevant to the actual story line - the only thing obvious is that all three main characters (Jill, Livy, and Caitlin) all suffered from trauma and mental health issues. So the paranormal inserts were rather unnecessary and misleading.
All in all, still enjoyed the book.
Looking for something dark and moody? You've found the right read.
The start of The Therapists Daughter grabbed me and made me want to know how Livy could kill her mother and what the hell happened with that Ouji board. While I am not typically big into the supernatural style genre, I felt it was done very well in this thriller, making you wonder if you are reading things correctly and questioning what's going on.
The downside is that for me, the book didn't keep me turning page after page to get to the ending like I hoped; it fell a bit flat for me.
Overall, 3 star book.
“The Therapist's Daughter” is Megan Taylor's most recent thriller. While this isn't the author's debut novel, it is my first time delving into her work. Despite the promising potential and the fast-paced narrative, I found the plot twists too predictable for my personal preferences.
On a positive note, the characters were well-crafted and multifaceted, and utilising dual timelines allowed for a deeper exploration of the story.
Despite being rated a three-star read, I have not been deterred from considering this author's future works.
I was hooked from the very first page it had me very intrigued & I couldn't put it down, read it in one sitting!!!
The Therapists Daughter by Megan Taylor is fantastic! It had so many twists & turns that I didn’t see coming. I couldn’t put it down and read it just a few hours.
I found this book to be very entertaining.
Thank You NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
Whilst i liked the premise of this book, it was so slow and I found it really hard to continue on with it. Characters were overly complicated and it just wasn't for me unfortunately!
What a gripping read. This story is full of twists and turns and kept me hooked
I really enjoyed it thanks for the opportunity to review
