The FMC in this book gave me the ick so bad I forced myself to finish it, hoping for some character development… there was not. This was just not for me.
I received an arc of this book from NetGalley, and I was so pleasantly surprised!! Look what you made me do was a fun, quick read that, despite the title, was not inundated with Taylor Swift references to the point of being cheesy (I say that as a Swifty).
Jake and Ella were really lovable characters, and I was excited by the depth we got in their arcs. This combined small-town romance with a little bit of second chance and other fun tropes! I’d definitely recommend this one!
I really liked the found family aspect of this book. After people from Trently didn't treat her right, she started her new little family with Rosie, her aunts and the dogs. I liked Ella's battle with not liking but still loving her mother. Her struggle with accepting who her mother was, made me deeply sympathise with her.
Jake's developement arc made sense. It felt natural, something actually realistic. His bond with the team and how he took on coaching was really heartwarming.
This book had some really funny moments that had me laughing out loud. Jake and Ella's banter was really witty and well written.
I received an arc from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest unbiased review
I liked the premise:- Ella, the headteacher of a failing school, threatened with closure, compromises her principles to get Jake Prince, former football player to be the coach.
They have a history of a one night stand - two years earlier - and the main thread of the book is how these two come together, fall in love and have a happy ever after. The vehicle for this journey is the football competition which will allow the new football team to win and in the process allow the hero and the heroine to fight off their Demons, heal their wounds and find their happy ending together..
I understand that this book was written in 2013 and has been updated and given some Taylor Swift references to attract a new audience. I am clearly not that audience since the Taylor Swift references went right over my head however it’s a pleasant and enjoyable romantic read although I didn’t particularly like the historical sex abuse or the woeful and deplorable behaviour of the, horrible villain who had been behaving badly all his life. I felt that this element distracted attention and energy from the relationship between Ella and Jake, which is who I was actually interested in. There were far too many side characters in this short book in whom I had no interest whatsoever.
Amy Andrews is a good romance writer so this is an enjoyable book but I have read much better by her
A small town romance, haunted by her past Elle attempting to save her school and Jake - a down on his luck football player come together.
Working though past traumas, solving both their troubles and sharing some spicy moments together.
An easy quick sports romance
Who are we to fight the alchemy? 🏈
This romance was such an easy read! I loved the mix of characters and their growth on each of their relationships.
Jake & Ella grew up in the same small town with disgraced parents. Both Jake & Ella worked so hard to not be known for what their parents were. Jake ends up in the NFL & Ella becomes a math teacher. The two rekindle their friendship when Ella’s school is in trouble & close to shutting down when NFL star Jake decides to coach the football team.
Based on the title and Travis Kelce reference, I thought this was going to be similar to their story but it was WAY different, but I liked it!

Look What You Made Me Do is a romance novel by Amy Andrews.
This was a cute read. It was easy to follow and had a good mix of characters. Plus the pacing was just right. Overall, a good read that other readers might like.
💖 Thank you to netgalley, the author and publisher for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a cute fast paced read that I didn’t want to put down. That being said it took me a couple of chapters to really understand what was going on and when I got into it I was entertained.
I really liked the main characters chemistry and the plot as a whole. If you’re a swiftie, I think you would really enjoy it.
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood books for the arc of this for my honest review.
This story is based around Ella and Jake, 2 people from a small gossiping town where they were constantly judged on their parents' lifestyles.
They run into each other years down the line when she's the head of a school on the brink of closure, and he is a retired NFL star. Working together to try and save the school leads to more than expected.
It was a nice, easy read, and I would recommend to anyone looking for a smaller story to read.
Based on the title alone, you would think that this book is going to be Taylor Swift style romance with a football player. However, this book is so much better than that!
The chemistry between Ella and Jake is just explosive. I would die for NSFW art of the pool/billiards table scene!! However, there aren't a lot of spicy scenes - but the ones that are there are great!
The secrets and mystery in the book kept me on the edge of my seat and I really enjoyed it!
Jake and Ella grew up in the same small town in Kansas with disgraced parents (his father was the town drunk and her mother was the town prostitute). Each worked hard to handle the insults and be something - Jake becoming a tight-end football player for the NFL and Ella becoming the good girl math teacher. With Jake being 2 years older than Ella, they weren't close in high school.
When Ella's mother dies living her responsible for an unknown teenage brother, Ella learns that the entire town thought that she ran away the high school principal and decides to be a bad girl for one night with Jake who has a womanizing reputation. One night and they never see each other again --
Until 2 years later, when Jake might just become the answer to Ella's troubles -- by coaching a football team at the struggling high school where she is interim principal.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and Amy Andrews for an ARC of this book!
thank u netgalley for sending me this arc!!!
wheres the trophy?????? he just comes running over to me!!!!!
this was so swiftie coded so as a swiftie i had no choice but to request this! & i obviously loved all the taylor references <3
you know how to ball, i know aristotle !!!!
well this was a cute story about the redemption of a small town highschool on the brink of being closed down by an effort to start a high school football team. the plan being conducted by the main characters - ella the principal & jake the retired football player who has history with ella.
the story is a cute journey through the revival of the school spirit and a successful story when the school comes back out on top with more pep and spirit than ever.
there’s some minor road blocks along the way that get solved pretty quick - as it is a super short book so not much room for any other storylines or issues.
it was cute & simple.
i wasn’t too attached to anyone or any of the storylines in this book. i didn’t think ella and jake had that much chemistry. i thought the relationship could’ve been built or focused on a little more.
there was some family issues built into the storyline as well which helped support the characters personalities.
i think i was expecting something a little greater & something maybe a little more taylor swift related based on the cover & the title - it seems like a little bit of clickbait.
but it was not bad! i enjoyed my time reading it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the advanced copy of “Look What You Made Me Do” by Amy Andrews.
I’m really torn about this book - I really wanted to love it. The first paragraph alone hooked me into the story (I was on the fence about starting the book at that moment) and I enjoyed Andrews writing style.
The story itself was under 200 pages, which I don’t think was enough to do the story and the characters the justice it deserves.
The backstory and history of many of the characters, including Ella and Jake, was very complex and I don’t think that Andrew’s paid enough attention to that part of the story. Had she added even just 50 more pages (250 pages is still shorter than many of the stories I regularly read), she could have spent more time developing their childhood in Trentley or even the growth in their rekindled relationship in Inverboro. There were just too many gaps for me to really feel as though this story was “believable.”
I also feel like Trish was just a side plot for most of the story. She was just a mystery figure along for the ride until about 70% of the way through when the whole <spoiler> Tony SA scandal </spoiler> came to light and gave perspective on why all of this mattered to Jake.
Had we been privy to that earlier in the story, I think we would have been more sympathetic to the characters themselves es.
Overall, the story wasn’t bad and I would definitely recommend reading it if you’re looking for something quick-paced that has some spice but not too much and adds in a bit of the sports that we know and love in a good sports romance.
I really enjoyed:
🏈 How supportive all the characters were of one another
🏈 The underdog element of Deluca High
🏈 That the main characters were in their 30’s and this wasn’t another college romance
But I really wish/ could have done without:
📚 Large gaps in the plot that took me out of the story
📚 A short page count and a mediocre ending to the story that felt rushed
📚 A little more spice 🌶️
Also… <spoiler> what the hell is a man worth 100 million dollars doing living like a regular bloke? Slinging beers in his bar every night? Going back to Trently and slinging beers there (again - plot hole - why did she not elaborate on how he ended up back at The Rusty Nail? I understand he had just been fired but he clearly had a home in Inverboro already and it didn’t sound like he had anyone he loved in Trently that would make that his go-to spot to lick his wounds when all was said and done…)? </spoiler>
I love a sports romance book, so when I saw this I knew I had to read it!
This was a quick and easy read and I thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters, especially the way their pasts and present are woven together showing a deep sense of understanding and acceptance.
My only real complaint is that the ending felt to rushed. Some major twists are dropped on you with no proper wrap up and a lack of epilogue has me a little disappointed.
Still an enjoyable read overall.
This was cute! I’m definitely curious to see what the differences were between this book and the original one she releases previously. But I can’t lie and say I wasn’t drawn in but all the Taylor swift references!
Being honest, I had my doubts about this going in; the title, cover art and description had me expecting bad Taylor/Travis fanfiction, but I was pleasantly surprised that I overall enjoyed the reading experience. I didn't love our main character Ella (though I was relieved she was an original character and not just Taylor Swift But A Teacher), or feel particularly strongly about her chemistry with Jake, but it was a nice palate cleanser and I enjoyed the author's writing throughout. I'm personally fascinated by the decision to republish a book ten years after its original release and make enough changes so that it's relevant to the current Swiftie climate and last year's Superbowl hype. The disclaimer that's like "any resemblence to any real life persons living or dead is purely coincidental and not intended" had me giggling. Get your bag! Own it! A part of me really wants to read the original release to see what Jake's character was before he was Travis Kelce, and I'm dying to know if the line namedropping Taylor Swift existed in 2013. I probably won't. If anyone else does please share with the class. If anything I'd probably have been more interested in the story from Cameron's perspective, how his mother's profession shaped him as he grew up, finding out he had a sister, having a positive male role-model for the first time in his life and seeing his growth along the way. The story we got was very surface level and could have been fleshed out better.
A small town with lots of drama forces two of its own out and they find their way back, but this time she is a principal and he is retired from the NFL making him free to coach the new high school team. While they weren't exactly friends as kids, they never lacked chemistry and it is still intact with even more sparks. Jake and Ella have tried to run as far from their past, but it continues to follow them wherever they go. Together, they can accept and move on from their parent's shadows and find love and the family they knew they deserved.
Ella grew up in a small town where her mother was scorned for her line of work. Growing up, Ella felt that shame, and yet she was strong enough to keep going with her kind and compassionate heart. But it made her work harder to prove herself worthy of love and acceptance. After the death of her mother years later, she wanted to shed her good girl image, so on the day of her mother's funeral she walks right up to the town bad boy and propositions him in front of everyone. Jake tries to be a gentleman and put up a fight but they give in and leave with a memorable with the best one-night stand.
Two years later, they are reconnected in Inverbero. She is the new principal of a failing high school and has about one school year to turn it around or it faces closing. Jake is retired from the NFL and a new bar owner, and he adds the role of head coach of the newly formed football team to his plate. They still have great chemistry and Ella wants to keep things strictly professional but it's hard for either of them to forget their memorable night together.
It's really beautiful to see these two damaged souls find peace and love with one another. For most of their childhood, they had to live in the shadows of their parents and were judged by the entire community, but they never judged each other. It's hard to see that those past traumas carried into the life of Ella's brother Cam, but it was sweet to see how Jake was the male role model Cameron deserved. But don't say anything about his woman because he will set you straight. It was so fulfilling to see them get the happy ever after that they worked so hard for. Amy Andrews is one of my go-to romance authors and she kicked the game-winning field goal with Look What You Made Me Do!
Thank you NetGalley for the arc!
Look What You Made Me Do was very interesting and intriguing read and I really enjoyed it although I’m not a huge fan of third person point of view.
Although it may have felt a bit rushed I still enjoyed this story, as well as the characters and what all they have dealt with especially Ella who has to suffer from her mother’s actions. Jake who’s a ex football player was like Ella in a way when having a trouble life considering the problems his dad faced.
I enjoyed reading about the journey of finding themselves after everything they’ve endured. I’m glad they were able to do that together! It was really refreshing to branch out and read a story focusing on a different age group than the ones I typically drift towards, or an author I’ve never really read.
Overall the storyline and plot was good and I’d definitely recommend this book to those looking for a quick and easy read.
I definitely consider myself a fan of Amy Andrews and was excited to read her latest book. It took no time at all for me to be drawn into the story and I always love a good fictional representation of found family, even if I wanted more of the side characters and less of the never really dealt with past traumas of the heroine. The romance with its initial push pull was enjoyable. I didn’t love the way the story was resolved however. There were too many loose ends, questionable motivations, and a speedy resolution that felt rushed. Not my favorite Andrew’s but still glad I read it.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another enjoyable read with great characters that feel like real people, “Look What You Made Me Do”, by Amy Andrews, shows leads dealing with emotional scars with a blend of resilience and vulnerability that makes them very appealing as human beings.
Jake and Ella both have baggage and experienced trauma, and are still dealing with it. The way they face it, with doubts, fears and courage, is admirable.
I liked how they’re both so strong and protective, despite their psychological wounds. The attraction and chemistry are explosive, of course.
The fact both leads have a difficult family background they overcame achieving their dreams is also interesting.
Amy Andrews writes with humor and energy and her characters show these attributes, too.
Her characters feel realistic and vibrant and are relatable. I liked that the heroine is a teacher. Cameron is the typical surly teenager, needing attention and unconditional love.
Watching the general involvement in the high school project is compelling.
“She made one last appeal. "Please, just send me away."
"Shit, Ella," he muttered on a groan as he lifted a hand to cup her face. "I can't."
"I love it when you use your bossy teacher voice, Ms. Lucas, ma'am."
This is exactly the book I needed to spark my love for summer romcom!!! Did it had a specific summer setting? Not really. But did it have the summer vibes? Absolutely !!! A nemesis to lovers story, with a math nerd turned school principal and a bad boy, ex-football player, who stopped playing. They had a one night stand. They are back in closed proximity to try and save her school with his coaching. At the same time she is trying to salvage the relationship she has with her brother whom she didn’t know existed because she moved out of her house because of her mother’s occupation. It was messy, complicated, funny, intriguing and spicy !!! Loved it from the bottom of my heart !!! It gave me chills and tears and emotions I didn’t know I had to give her until this moment. Ella is a great leading character in a romance story and despite some bad choices she might have had, she still feels so relatable to me!! And Jake … I fell in love with him from page one and he has had my heart in a tight grasp since. No way I can get it out. Despite some frustrating moments, I enjoyed their dynamic very much. And when it came to the third act break up … it didn’t bother me as much as it could have.
“Because, despite everything - the competi-tion, the school and their newly minted professional boundaries - she really, really wanted to do him on her desk.”
"I wish I didn't want to kiss you so much."
“That he always wanted to be the guy who fixed things for her.
Of course, she didn't need him to ride in and rescue her but that didn't stop him wanting to be that guy.
Her guy. Her first call. Fixing her shit would be his love language from now.”
