I loved this book! I loved it more than the first book in this universe. I really loved the relationship between Minseok and Hyeri and how they grew back together. When the filming for the show they were filming was happening I felt like I was one of the audience members watching the show! I also feel like this book did a really good job at showcasing some of the not so great realities that we know about K-pop. It discusses bullying rumors, the idols constantly counting calories, how the media can skew any small moment, the differences between how male idols and female idols can be treated for doing the same thing, and scary sasaeng interactions. While also being a romance book, this brings to light some issues that many of the real idols face everyday. I had such a great time reading this book and it blew my expectations out of the water.

I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I had read a previous book by this author through my library so I was thrilled to be able to read this book. I really enjoyed all the characters and found this to be a fun and enjoyable reading experience. If you need a book with lots of fun romance and swoon-worthy moments, Kat Cho will provide them! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC for this fantastic read!

So I feel like this happens to me a lot where I like the second book more than the first book in these situations. Wish Upon a K-Star is a spin-off, I guess, of Once Upon a K-Prom but you don’t have to read one to understand the other.

I loved this one because I really loved Hyeri and Minseok and I felt like all their interactions were just so freaking cute.

I also really liked that Hyeri perspective is from a perceived “K-pop bully” and what it’s like to have to deal with accusations of that type of scandal. You see a lot of that happen in K-pop, one of the most notable I think was Le Sserafin and you can see how that can change a career. So I thought it was an interesting topic to bring up and how she had to deal with it.

We see a lot more from Hyeri perspective but the addition of Minseok definitely added to it. I’ll be honest I was probably most interested in her perspective anyway. Minseok does have his own things to deal with as a well established and loved idol.

This is a great book to read if you are really into K-pop and K-dramas because you’ll see a different side of scandals that you’ve probably read about. I also think if you enjoyed Once Upon a K-Prom you might be like me and love this one more. Ha ha.

Current and even former K-Pop fans will enjoy Wish Upon a K-Star by Kat Cho. There are references and vocabulary included that K-Pop lovers will recognize or will learn as they're used in the context of the story. The story of a young woman bullied online is magnified by her celebrity status, and the relationship she develops with the main male character feels right out of a K-Drama, enhancing the story. The addition of online blog posts and interview transcripts helps anchor the story by presenting what the K-Pop fans are focusing on. This helps explain the difficulties the characters are going through. There are two perspectives, one from the female protagonist (Hyrei) and one from the main male character (Minseok). The majority of the book is from Hyrei's perspective, with some scenes focused on Minseok's perspective added in. Cho goes farther to make their chapters distinct by writing Hyrei's in first-person, and Minseok's in third-person. There are far more chapters from Hyrei's perspective than there are focusing on Minseok - while this helps center Hyrei as the story's true protagonist, a few more chapters from Minseok's perspective would have provided opportunities to explain his motivations and emotions more, which readers may want. Overall I would recommend this book to patrons who are interested in K-Pop, K-Dramas, fake dating, celebrities, and books with romance that don't include overly descriptive scenes of physical displays of affection.

While a YA Romance, this offers a fascinating look into the wild world of K-Pop stardom. The rigid rules of stardom coupled with a teen girl’s desire to be perfect made for such a compelling read. This novel has a minor thriller plot (who is the crazy anti) that eagle eyed readers will be able to pick out, quicker than the book reveals but all in all this was an fabulous peek behind the curtains of a young KPop star.

I love everything by Kat Cho and her newest K-Romance is just as good as I thought it would be! Moonster is the most LOVABLE and adorable of K-Stars and the way he encourages and supports his childhood best friend and crush, Hyeri is absolutely heartwarming.

I’m struggling a little with Ana and the toxicity of the K-fandom. I wanted Moonsters group to be more supportive and I thought this book was missing just a tiny bit of magic, but I still highly recommend it.

Wish Upon a K-Pop Star is a charming and heartwarming story about friendship, love, and self-discovery.

The story revolves around idol-turned-actress Shin Hyeri and Moon Minseok, who is a popular member of the boy group WDB. Hyeri is a rising star but has been constantly faced with scandal after scandal and the only way the company can seem to get her out of it, is to have her participate in a variety show about a fake marriage. Unfortunately, her partner is set to be Moon Minseok, who broke her heart years before. They find themselves questioning their feelings and how to navigate their chosen life paths.

The story is filled with charming quips and an inside look at the “glamorous” lifestyle of k-pop idols. The main characters have great chemistry together and there is satisfying character growth. I really enjoyed reading this book, as it reads similar to k-dramas. More specifically, it reminded me of So I Married an Anti-Fan. This would be a good book to read for anyone who loves k-pop or Korean shows.

I do wish there were more Moon Minseok perspectives on things but overall, still very enjoyable. I would recommend to readers and to add to a library YA collection.

A satisfyingly more mature follow up to "Once Upon a K-Prom," "Wish Upon a K-Star" tactfully yet engagingly takes readers into the world of Korean celebrities. With all the flair of a K drama, this novel tackles the real difficulties of working and living in the public eye. The only disruption to reading was switching of verb tenses. All In all, a delightful read!

I loved this representation of anxiety and the important moment of deciding for yourself who and what is most important. I really appreciated how even the secondary characters were well-developed, Ana in particular. The high-stakes and pressure of the KPop environment added to the stakes of the relationship between the main characters in a way that I think added depth to the story.

K-pop star Moonster and former idol Hyeri were childhood friends growing up in the tough world of K-pop. Now Hyeri is trying to work in K-drama but real drama and scandal keep following her around. In order try to enhance their reputations, Hyeri and Moonster agree to appear together on a variety show called “Our Celebrity Marriage.” Feelings reappear along with more scandal and a crazy sasaeng fan.
An entertaining story, but I had trouble liking the main character. Perhaps her first narrative was too intense for me. She has a lot of anxiety and a very controlling mother.

This was a cute companion to Once Upon a K-Prom. If you like your enemies to lovers and fake dating romance tropes, this might be the book for you.
