I enjoyed the first part of this book a LOT. The meet-cute between Harlow and Landon (Andy) was so unique and absolutely one of the best I've ever read. Such a strong start to a book that I am ending up giving only three stars too, it is tragic. The rest of the book really read to me like YA, because Landon's character acted like a 20 year old. His internal dialogue was painful to read! I wasn't able to buy into them making it long term because of this. I normally enjoy books by Sara Ney, so this book won't keep me from purchasing her books in the future but if this was the only book I had read by her it would. Very disappointing. Thank you NetGalley and Sara Ney for this advanced copy.
So much fun! This low angst romcom is a delight - author Sara is having fun with a professional footballer, dating apps, message strings and a secret identity.
Harlow is creating a new dating app, her friends are also her workmates and there's care and hilarity in the text strings of her friendship group. Meantime Andy is a professional footballer who is out of contract. Their meet-cute is so fresh and fun and it's immediately clear how well these two get on. There's plenty of snark and banter from the very start and it's funny and clever. I loved that it's Andy who is keenest to partner up and happy to do whatever is needed to start something with Harlow.
A quick read, it's smart and light, all the characters are lovely and even Andy's -ex has some redeeming qualities, with the biggest complications for them being that Andy is a sporting celebrity and lives in another state. I loved how open Andy is, he's a himbo man-toddler but in the nicest way. Harlow is sunshiney and fun. It's steamy and very positive and they can have a laugh and get it on 🌶🌶 Recommended!
Thank you so much Sara Ney for the ARC. Opinions are my own.
I am a newer Sara Ney reader, but am enjoying her so much! Not Your Biggest Fan definitely read more mainstream/trad pub than her indie titles and I think it showed. It still packed all the loveable characters and witty banter that she is known for, but there was an edge that was missing from the story. I was surprised Green Bay was written as a small town (?!?) but in my head just made it fictional. I am a big football fan so I would have preferred to just have a fictional town so that the attributes made a bit more sense, but it's fiction. I just made it fiction in my head, too.
I did love the meet cute and I loved how Andy fell for Harlow against his own will, pretty much. I enjoyed the magnetism between them and how they ran back into one another. The banter and text messages were so much fun to read and brought the Ney vibes I was looking forward to. I also liked the sports angle; Andy shopping for a new team was fun to read and a little different. I also liked his relationship with his parents. I laughed a good bit in the book and found many parts fun to read.
The flow of the book itself was excellent, making the book easy to read and the perfect pace. There wasn't a point where I felt like the story lagged or I wanted to fast forward. I liked how she wasn't a crazed fan and how that allowed them to connect. It was cute, but just not a favorite book for me.
Not Your Biggest Fan checked all my boxes. It was funny and had me laughing out loud. It was what I love about Sara Ney's stories and books. It had Sara's quirky sense of humor and fun romantic moments and a sports romance, one of my favorite genres.
Andy aka Landon Burke is a professional football player visiting New York deciding which team he wants to play for. Harlow James is developing an online dating app and visiting New York for work. They have a not so meet cute by a food truck and cue the funny moments.
I just loved these two characters from the start. Their banter, their connection, their back-and-forth wit. I smiled so much while reading this book. And through a large portion of the story, Harlow doesn't know who Andy is, but once she does there is some angsty moments thrown in. And Harlow's dad, Big Steve, just keeps the fun times rolling. He is a huge Landon Burke fan so you can just imagine how that goes down.
If you like meet cutes, small town/big city romance, sports romance and great banter, Not Your Biggest Fan will give you that and more.
I loved so much about this story, and cannot wait for the next book, Andy's best friend Dex's book.
I really wanted to like this one because I love sports romance - however I read this up to 25% and I just feel like the writing was slightly messy so I'm not dropping my reviews elsewhere.
Combined with the lack of chemistry between the two MC’s, the sheer volume of “lol”s was over the top and showed me early on that I definitely was not the reader for this.
Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for the DRC
You will laugh at Harlow and Andy’s meet cute!
App developer Harlow James is in New York getting more advertisers for the launch of her dating app that she created. She never expected to warn some stranger not to eat the chicken from a random food truck never expecting to meet him again.
Football star Landon “Andy” Burke thought it was refreshing to meet someone who had no idea he played football and he wanted to see her again even when he was checking out possible new teams as a free agent. Would Harlow be surprised that he tracked her down in Green Bay while he talked to the local team?
If you want a meet cute romance that is heavy on the romance with a lot of snarky comments between Harlow and Andy you need to read Not Your Biggest Fan!
P.S. I want to read Dex’s book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Harlow James is destined to rock the dating world. The creator of Kissmet, the app helping singles find love, she’s in New York to secure advertisers. But the sassy, small-town girl can’t help meddling in other people’s business.
When she runs into a muscular stranger at her go-to food truck, Harlow doesn’t realize he’s Landon “Andy” Burke, the NFL’s most-wanted free agent, in town to talk contracts. She just sees a hottie about to get burned by undercooked street food. Though she tries to warn him, he shrugs her off, making a little wager instead.
In a messy twist of fate, Andy finds himself in the same hotel as Harlow. When she collects on their bet, they make a mind-blowing—and bed-rocking—connection. But after the weekend, she goes home to Green Bay to her goofy dad and corgi, ready to focus everything on work again. Kissmet, however, has other ideas, when Andy knocks on her door…
Loved it
I adored this book so much. I love the premise of Harlow who happens to be starting a dating app running into an athlete Andy in New York City unbeknownst to her that he is in fact, a famous athlete. The connection between Harlow and Andy is sizzling from the start And you kind of feel a little raft when Andy goes back to Green Bay. I love how Andy shows up into Harlow‘s life and that they try to pursue the chemistry that is in between them. I laughed so hard at all of Harlow‘s friends and family slowly finding out about her mystery man and who he was, and the fact that she Did not know how famous he was until others told her. It’s just such a fun book from start to finish.
In Sara Ney’s newest book, Not Your Biggest Fan, Harlow James meets Andy Burke when he is purchasing some questionable chicken from a food truck outside Central Park in New York City. She tries to warn him, but he doesn’t listen. Cut to a few hours later, and they are sharing an elevator and Andy has food poisoning. What follows is a whirlwind date that leaves Harlow and Andy falling in love. Unfortunately, they live in different states and neither wants a long-distance relationship, so they go their separate ways. However, Andy knows that what they have is special, and he is willing to make massive changes to see if it could work. First though, he needs to clear up a few pesky lies that he told Harlow…
Sara Ney is a great writer; she incorporates humor and passion in her narrative in a way that is unique and instantly recognizable (if you are familiar with her work). The meet-cute-that-turns-out-not-to-be-so-cute is hilarious. Food poisoning is no joke, but I’m glad Harlow and Andy find the humor in the occasion. While the story is fun and lighthearted, it did feel a little rushed and not believable. I just couldn’t understand why a man with Andy’s level of fame would rearrange his life after spending one day with Harlow and texting her for a few days. I think there needed to be more interactions with Andy and Harlow, over a few months perhaps, so that Andy changing his life would make more sense.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for sharing this advanced review copy with me in exchange for my honest feedback!
While I really enjoyed the sports theme of this book and the dual point of view, there were parts that made me cringe. It was a little too insta love.
I did read this book very quickly and enjoyed it overall.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for providing an ARC.
This was a quick, cute rom-com with a tonne of banter and instalove. Harlow and Andy have their meet-cute and a large part of the plot is that she has no idea that he is a famous athlete. While Andy navigates which team he should sign with, he can’t help but think that the best place to be is right beside Harlow. Now if only he can convince her of that.
The banter is definitely the best part of this book. The back and forth was a lot of fun, especially via the text messages. I also think the latter half of the book is where the book really shone.
Where it fell short for me was that I wanted a bit more depth to the characters. There wasn’t much conflict so it felt like there were few stakes. It made for a light read so if that is the vibe you need then definitely read.
really enjoyed reading this! i wish it were a bit longer and not so insta lovely but alas i still had a lot of fun reading and love anything sara writes
Fun! I love how these two met. I enjoyed the banter and the friend group. The dad ... the dog... crazy! The only thing I wish for is that we got more of them as an actual couple after Harlow found out about Andy. I wanted to see her navigate being a famous football players girlfriends as the girl next door. Overall...a fun book.
A chance meeting in New York, a warning not to eat from a food truck. Staying in the same hotel, bumping into each other in the lift.
Besotted sports star persuses girl. She's normal, has a job and doesn't recognise him.
A romantic pursuit, a famous ex, meddling family and curious friends.
Fingers crossed for HEA. Funny and enjoyable.
3.5 stars
This really wasn't great literature, but I had a fantastic time. I read it super fast, which I guess could either be good or bad but for me was good. Like, it had some sort of crack in it. Definitely read this if you just want something quick and funny.
I wanted to like this book more, but overall I have pretty mixed feelings. I really liked the beginning with the banter and chemistry between the characters, but beyond that the pacing did not feel consistent throughout the whole book.
’m not a sports person, but I love a sports rom-com. Sassy Midwest girl meets hot Football star? Sold. Except…I’m not buying chicken from a food truck ever again. LOL
I really enjoyed this book. It took me a while to understand some of the dynamics of the town, but I found it a refreshing and light read, but with just enough spice, like all the novels Sara writes.
Thank you Netgalley for an early read of this football romance. I enjoyed this one but there are parts throughout the story that made me cringe a little. Some of the internal dialogue from Andy didn't sit well with me, like was trying to be macho . I also felt like Harlow overreacted a little more than usual in parts. The meet cute between Andy and Harlow wasn't as much "cute" (but it was definitely a meet cute you don't forget!). I liked the development of the two characters but feel like it was almost too "insta-lovey". Overall, I think it is a cute romance that fans will enjoy!
